The invention of X-rays was made by Professor Röntgen of Germany in 1895
Until then, people had no knowledge about these rays
That's why they were named X-rays
There is an interesting story behind the discovery of X-rays
Once, Professor Röntgen was using a cathode ray tube in his lab
For this, he had darkened the lab and had covered the tube with a cloth
Röntgen saw that a kind of light was coming out of the pieces of barium, platinum, cyanide kept near the tube
When he looked around, he found that a curtain was also shining a few feet away from his table
He was surprised to see that the tube was covered with a black cloth and there was no way for the cathode rays to come out
Röntgen believed that some unknown rays were coming out of the tube, which could pass through thick paper
Because until then, there was no information about these rays, so he named them X-rays
which means unknown rays
For the discovery of X-rays, Professor Röntgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901
He had a thought that just as ordinary light has an effect on photo plates, it is possible that these rays can also have an effect on photo plates
To test this thought, he took a photo plate and placed his wife's hand on it and put an X-ray on it
When the photo film was developed, he saw that the bones of the hand were clearly visible
This was the first time when it was possible to see a living person's bones like this
Wilhelm Röntgen was born in Lenep, Germany
His father was a farmer and his mother was a Dutch woman
His primary education was in Holland and higher education was in Zurich University of Switzerland
From here, at the age of 24, he obtained a PhD
In 1885, he was appointed as a professor of physics at the University of Würzburg
This is where he invented X-rays
With the help of X-rays discovered by Röntgen, it was quite helpful to find out the internal diseases of the body
In addition to this, X-rays are also used in the treatment of diseases such as cancer and ringworm
At the end of the 19th century, he came to Munich from Würzburg and died here at the age of 77
