My new modified Harbor Freight 2hp dust collector. I used the included ring to make a thien baffle that sits on top of a metal trash can. The exhaust is vented outside. No problems with negative pressure as I barely run the HVAC in the shop.

all right so this is the bottom the
bottom piece uh this this ring is where
the uh trash can will
be and let's see something
like like this so it's sitting on top of
the trash can you got a large
opening and this is where the actual
baffle will be placed I cut pie shape
opening just to give some support for
this this middle section because I did
remove some for the ring to sit in so I
could just line these up on that Center
piece and then I could use my screw over
here for locating and make sure
everything lines up nice and neat um
round over these edges real quick and
that's it for the Bottom now I just got
to make a ring for the top all right
with the uh assembly starting to take
take shape I've just screwed these two
plates together I'm going to come back
and glue them together but for right now
they're just screwed um going to make
two more plates for the top one is just
going to be a ring or actually it's just
going to be a square with a circle
cutout to sit on top of here and a 4-in
hole in the middle and then the next is
going to be a little bit smaller it's
going to be about a
17in with a 17in square cuz it's got a
butt up against this Outlet and then
about a 4in circle in the middle so uh
two pieces about 21 in and then 17 in

so I only lack one more cut this piece
right here is my 17in piece and I've got
a 5-in hole right in the middle for the
uh fan motor or the for the air flow and
purpose of this spacer is so that I have
a mounting surface that is higher than
this exhaust flange so this can be
flipped upside down and mounted now
I need to take that same 5in hole and
put it right in the middle of here I've
got it marked but it's on the other
side and what I've already done is I've
already cut a Groove that's about 38 of
an inch deep uh half inch rter bit uh
like before and this fits in there
really snug it uh actually lifting it
out of the
bottom but it fits in there nice and
snug and what I'm going to do just to
seal up all these joints
uh I don't want to deal with weather
stripping like I originally planned and
I don't want to deal with uh cocking or
silicone or anything like that uh I'm
just going to use electrical tape
that'll seal it up just nice and neat uh
so long as you don't stretch it before
you apply
it uh that electrical tape will last a
long time and it'll actually do a really
good job sealing this all off so I'm
excited to get this thing going I just
just got to mount or cut that one hole
right in the middle of the top
piece all right here it is all together
uh real quick you've got the air coming
in them baffle larger ships down uh
smaller dust out the back and outside so
um I've got a I've got a lot of extra
parts left over that I didn't need uh
pretty decent set of casters a lot of
nuts and
bolts all these little small spots these
mounting brackets for the the uh the
ring uh I'm just going to fill those in
uh I'm not exactly sure what I'm going
to do I don't want to put bolts through
because that'll create some crap on the
inside for it to hit against uh I'm
going to take this back apart and glue
these two together I've already spread a
layer of glue on this one I just got to
screw these two
together and uh other than that I mean
it's done I'm going to like I said I'm
going to come back and put some some uh
electrical tape around all the joints to
kind of air seal it but I'm ready to put
some power to this thing all right I did
a test run before I sealed it all off
with tape just to see uh what was going
on uh I don't have proper hose right now
so that is just a 4 in by 8T piece of
expandable drainage pipe non preforated
everyone said from all the things I've
read everyone said that wouldn't
work uh for this small of a run it
worked just fine so until I get my good
hose in that's what I'm going to use uh
however
I had it all stacked in here and I've
got my hose let see if I can get it with
the light got my hose fitted through a
hole in my Plex glass and it is
just coming out the window and going
down there's nobody behind me so that
works out just fine um but anyway I had
it going and what I did is I just took
my hose and stuck it right into my dust
bucket that normally comes out the back
of my table saw so you can pretty much
see where the level was and it just
started sucking up as much obviously
that's just way too much at
once I was expecting to get this thing
clogged uh so what happened was it did
get clogged just a little bit my air
comes in through this side of the baffle
comes around and right about here it
started to pile up and it was clogged so
I may just take off a/4 of an inch
eighth of an in something like that off
this baffle uh but then again like I
said I just took my hose and dumped it
right into that bucket
so but I did get quite a bit in here I'd
say the vast majority of it is in here
all the larger stuff is in here uh I
went outside and uh there's a little bit
of dust on the grass not much but there
is a little bit
so uh so far so good all these larger
planer shavings
they all came in here and this is let me
see if I can't get to the bottom of
it that's
about and spreading it all around it's
probably about four or five in in the
bottom of here
so uh this thing works really really
good I don't know I don't know how to
compare it to the way it's supposed to
be set up because obviously I've never
had it set up that way but um you know
all the dust went outside sucking up all
kinds of dust and not stirring up any in
the shop so uh negative pressure because
I am blowing outside so I have a window
open in one of them other rooms over
there and that will allow a natural
slight draft that way so it works I'm
going to get it all put together and do
another test run
