Concrete House by Atelier Garcia is an innovative residence that blends the strength of concrete with the beauty of the Colombian landscape. Perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the Rock of Guatapé and the surrounding reservoir, this house adopts a triangular shape that follows the natural topography. The structure offers three main spatial experiences: a concrete plinth seamlessly integrated with the ground and gardens, a transparent upper floor that frames the landscape, and an open rooftop with a 360-degree panoramic view. Designed to optimize natural light and cross-ventilation, this house strikes a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Its social area is supported by three unique pillars—a triangular fireplace, a hollow column for storage, and a spiral staircase with a skylight—creating a dynamic architectural experience. Overall, this home demonstrates how design not only provides comfort but also fosters a deep emotional connection with nature.
Concrete House by Atelier Garcia, a residence that combines the strength of concrete with
the beauty of the Colombian landscape. With a total area of 120 square meters,
this house is not just a living space but an architectural experience that harmonizes with
nature. Perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the Rock of Guatapi and the surrounding
reservoir, this home is designed to foster a close connection between indoor living spaces
Standing at the edge of a hill, this house is designed with a unique concept,
both an observation deck and a shelter seamlessly integrated into the mountain.
The triangular floor plan follows the topography's contours,
creating three main axes that direct the spatial movements within.
This structure not only responds to the land's conditions but also enhances the
The choice of concrete as the primary material provides a sense of solidity and permanence,
while large openings in the facade invite natural light,
striking a balance between architectural boldness and indoor comfort.
The spatial experience in Concrete House unfolds in three stages. First, the concrete plinth that
merges with the ground and gardens, creating an intimate relationship with nature. Exposed
concrete is combined with large glass elements, allowing natural light to enter without
compromising privacy. Second, the transparent upper floor with expansive openings,
framing the horizon's view. With an open structure and minimal partitions,
this space is designed to feel spacious despite being in a compact home.
And third, the open-air rooftop, serving as a relaxing area with a 360-degree panoramic view
of the reservoir. This rooftop is not only a leisure space but also a transitional area
between the house and its surroundings, allowing residents to fully immerse themselves in nature.
The private area is located on the lower floor, where bedrooms and bathrooms are embedded in
the solid concrete mass, providing a calm and serene environment. The design ensures
protection from heat and external noise, making these rooms cooler and more secluded.
In contrast, the social space is an open plan area supported by three distinctive pillars,
a triangular fireplace that doubles as a decorative and functional heating element,
a hollow column that discreetly conceals the pantry and refrigerator for a clean and minimalist look,
and a spiral staircase crowned by a skylight, bringing natural illumination into the home.
The interaction between these elements creates a dynamic spatial experience,
where architecture is not just functional but enriches the living atmosphere.
Connecting the house to nature, an organic pathway leads to a bridge that grants access
to a circular rooftop terrace. From here, residents can enjoy an unobstructed view,
creating a seamless harmony between the dwelling and its surroundings.
This design is not only aesthetic but also functional, enabling natural cross-ventilation
and reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. With such an open concept
approach, this house is not just a shelter but a platform to fully experience the beauty of nature.
With a layered geometric composition and robust materials,
Concrete House offers a unique and inspiring spatial experience.
This architecture demonstrates that home design is not just about functionality but
also about creating an emotional connection between residents and their environment.
A perfect example of a home that not only serves as a residence but redefines how we
interact with nature. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments,
