Come on in to a little bit of Colorado in St. Louis.
Hi, my name is Janine Rideout. I am here at 1571 Englebrook Drive in Wildwood, Missouri.
This was the former home of my parents, Norman and Gary Holman.
My parents actually built this home themselves in 1995, so about 30 years ago.
It was kind of being built to be their dream home.
My mom passed in 2015 and my dad passed in 2022.
So this was my dad's hobby.
He was a carpenter by trade, but he was a huge train hobbyist and a huge train aficionado,
which started probably in his youth, I believe.
Just from stories he told me about playing with trains with his older brother, Dwight.
And then he had an opportunity in his mid-20s, I think, as a young adult,
to travel by train through Colorado, through the mountains of Colorado.
And he was so impressed and so loved it that he wanted to recreate that here.
He was featured in one of the editions of Toy Train Magazine.
They came with a crew of photographers and did a feature article on him.
What you see is his dream come true to life.
The mural that you see on the walls was actually painted by a local mural artist
named Gregory Gray.
The mural was intentionally painted to make it look like this landscaping
can go on and on and on forever.
So when you look at it, it doesn't look like it actually stops there.
It looks like you could look beyond it.
And most of the actual display itself, including all of the mountains and the rocks
and the rivers and streams, are actually fairly light
because they're just molded and sculpted in carved foam.
They recreated kind of an old 1940s, 50s style town in the mountains of Colorado,
complete with some of the old type styles of cars you would see,
and the people and the stores, the gas stations, little bed and bath.
Here, the actual river, they recreated with a, I think it was like a gel,
type of gel, the water flowing, streaming through the river and coming under the bridge.
Then also even a broken or overturned or derailed train car with the people,
with the guys here, the engineers working on it, trying to get it fixed and get it back up.
Rock formations that you see, some of that is painted foam,
but some of it is actually gravel and rock that my father had me to pick up
when we were in Colorado at the Red Rock Amphitheater.
Train station right here, where people are waiting to board the train as it comes through.
This is bittersweet for me because we are now listing the home and selling it,
but I have just wonderful, wonderful memories of coming.
My parents, again, owned this home for about 30 years,
and so this has been the home that I, myself, and my children, their grandchildren,
came to for holidays and birthdays, and my dad, especially at Christmas and New Year,
would always make a big deal about setting up the trains and having them run
and having the music playing, the Christmas music.
I just have a lot of really, really wonderful memories here of this home and of this area.
We will have another family to come in here and be able, hopefully, maybe with a train hobbyist
or someone with young children who will just enjoy this and make great memories here as well.
