Hey everyone, it's Robin from Rose and Lily.
In this video we're going to make these cute little cats.
In this tutorial I'll be making the grey cat on the right.
First you'll need some chunky or super chunky plush yarn
in a main body colour, a secondary colour and then in pink for the heart.
You'll also need some medium weight black yarn for the mouth, nose and whiskers.
We'll be using a USG crochet hook or a hook to match the yarn you're using.
Then you'll also need polyfill, safety eyes, scissors,
a yarn needle and I always recommend using stitch markers.
The stitches you need to know beforehand are magic ring, single crochet, slip stitch,
chain stitch, increase and decrease.
And I'll be going through the double crochet and triple crochet for the heart.
We're going to start at the top of the ears and work down.
Using your main body colour, in round one it's four single crochet in a magic ring.
I'll put my full tutorial for how I like to do the magic ring at the top.
Pull the ring tight and I'll be using a stitch marker in the last stitch of each round.
In round two, we do a single crochet in the first stitch
and then two single crochet in the next stitch, which is an increase.
And we do that again, a single crochet followed by an increase.
This is the tip of the ear, so just pull the piece backwards as you're working.
In round three, it's two single crochet
and then an increase, which is two single crochet into one stitch.
And we do that again, two single crochet followed by an increase.
This brings us up to eight stitches in round three.
In round four, it's three single crochet followed by an increase.
And we do that twice to bring us up to ten.
In round five, it's four single crochet followed by an increase.
We do that twice to get 12 stitches.
Now for the first ear only, we're going to close and cut the yarn after round five,
leaving a little bit of a tail.
Now you're going to crochet the second ear exactly the same,
but you're not going to close or cut the yarn after round five.
So here's my second ear still attached to the yarn and my first ear.
And on the second ear, we're going to now chain three.
We're going to join it to the first ear with a single crochet.
And I like to go in just after that last stitch that we did on the first ear.
So that's over here.
And that's just one single crochet to join.
And I'm going to add a marker to the stitch.
And this is also the first stitch of round one of the head.
So we've already done the first stitch of round one of the head.
And we do eight single crochet more on the first ear.
And then an increase.
And two more single crochet on that first ear.
This will bring us up to the last stitch we did on the first ear.
So I'm just removing that marker.
Now we're going to work into the chain.
So they are three chain stitches.
And we're doing a single crochet into each of them.
So that's three single crochet in the chain.
Now we're going over to the second ear.
And we're doing four single crochet.
And then an increase.
Then seven single crochet.
This brings us up to the last stitch that we did on the second ear.
Now we're working in the other side of those three chain stitches.
And we do a single crochet in the first chain stitch.
A single crochet in the second chain stitch.
And an increase which is two single crochet into the last chain stitch.
This last chain stitch is just before that stitch marker.
And that's the end of round one.
So I'm going to add a marker to that last stitch.
Round two will start in that marked stitch that we used to join the ears.
And for round two it's ten single crochet.
Followed by an increase.
And we do all of that three times.
That will bring us up to 36 stitches in round two.
Now there will be some slight gaps between the ears.
And we're going to sew them closed using the tail from the end of the first ear.
So I'm first just tucking the tails from the magic rings out the way.
Then using the tail from the end of the first ear.
I'll just do a stitch to close the first hole.
And then weave through.
And just go over that second hole.
In round three we do five single crochet.
And then an increase.
And we do that all six times to bring us up to 42 stitches.
In rounds four to five.
So that's two rounds.
There's no increasing.
It's just one single crochet into each stitch.
This means we're doing two rounds of 42.
And I'll do these rounds off camera.
Now we can attach the eyes.
And I like to put them between rounds three and four.
About seven or eight stitches apart.
We just crocheted round five.
So rounds three to four are here.
Just make sure they're symmetrical with the ears.
Once you're happy with the placement.
You can attach the backs.
Now to start the next round.
We need to make sure that we're right in the middle between the two ears.
And you might need to remove a few stitches to get there.
Once you're in the middle.
That's your new end of round.
In round six.
We first do 10 single crochet.
And then an increase.
And this should be pretty much at the side of the ear.
And then 20 single crochet.
And then an increase.
Once again you should be at the side of the ear.
And then we finish off the round with 10 single crochet.
This brings the total of round six to 44 stitches.
In rounds seven to eight.
So that's two rounds.
We just do 44 single crochet around.
And I'll do these two rounds off camera.
Round nine is very similar to round six.
We're going to do increases on the sides.
So we start with 11 single crochet.
Then an increase.
20 single crochet.
An increase.
And then 11 single crochet.
In rounds 10 to 11.
We're doing two rounds of 46 single crochet around.
And once again.
I'll do these rounds off camera.
In round 12.
We're increasing on the sides again.
So it's 11 single crochet.
And then an increase.
Then 22 single crochet.
An increase.
And 11 single crochet.
Now we're going to do three rounds of 48 single crochet around.
So that's rounds 13 to 15.
And I'll do these three rounds off camera.
After round 15.
I'm going to stuff just the ears very firmly.
Make sure to get stuffing all the way down to the tips of the ears.
Now we're going to start decreasing.
So in round 16.
We start with six single crochet.
Then we do a decrease.
And I like to do the invisible decrease like so.
And we do that again.
Six single crochet followed by a decrease.
We do it six times all together.
Which brings us down to 42 stitches in the round.
In round 17.
It's five single crochet.
Followed by a decrease.
We do all of that six times to get 36.
In round 18.
It's four single crochet.
Followed by a decrease.
We do that six times to get 30.
In round 19.
It's three single crochet.
And then a decrease.
We do that six times to get 24.
In round 20.
It's two single crochet.
And then a decrease.
We do that six times to get 18.
Now we're going to add stuffing.
Make sure to stuff the top of the head very firmly.
So that the ears stick up straight.
In round 21.
We do a single crochet.
And then a decrease.
And we do all of that six times to bring us down to 12 stitches.
In round 22.
We do six decreases.
This will bring us down from 12 stitches to six.
Then we can cut the yarn.
Leaving a bit of a tail to sew that hole closed.
To close the hole.
I like to go through the front loops of the last six stitches.
Then pull tight to close the hole.
Insert the yarn into the piece.
Into a few different places to secure it.
And that's the main body of the cat completed.
You can just shape out the stuffing as necessary.
Thanks for watching part 1 of the cat tutorial.
I'll put the link to part 2 in the description box.
