What's going on everybody? This is Island Hopper TV
coming to you from Malacca right here on the hello on the riverfront here.
So we're in front of Casa Del Rio and uh, yeah,
we're going to do a tour of beautiful Malacca here at 6 30 at night.
Explore the old town area. It is April 1st,
2025. Oh my goodness.
So over here they have an old Portuguese port or you could say a Dutch port or
British port.
There's some important history that you need to know about Malacca.
So the Straits of Malacca is basically in between the Malaysian peninsula and
Sumatra and at the very Southern tip of all of the Straits of Malacca,
when they round the peninsula is Singapore.
Another important maritime city or village or outpost many,
many moons ago. Nowadays it's its own country,
but for a long time this was under Portuguese from 1400s to 1500s.
The Dutch from about 16 to 1700s and then the British 18 to 1900s and now in
Malaysia has its independence. But this here,
for the city of Malacca sits right on the Straits of Malacca along with Penang.
Very famous.
But here's an old visual of what you would have expected back then.
Dogs. Oh, look at this.
So there's a Christ church right there.
You can see it's actually a very diverse city.
There was lots of people from all over the world living here.
Indian, Malay, British, Dutch. Very interesting.
But let's get a good view across the street here. Wow.
How is this guy not know how to drive his car?
He's like backing his car up on the bridge there.
This guy. Wow. Look at this. Anyway,
we're all safe and sound. We've got a hard rock here. So,
you know, Penang is quite famous,
but Malacca is also, this is Jonker Walk.
This is actually where they do a night market. You see,
it's only open on the weekends though, but I'll take you down here. Jonker.
All right. So from Jonker,
actually going to go back over here. Oh, what's he doing?
Coconut ice cream guy.
But it's a fun city. Real fun.
Log jam here. You know what this city actually reminds me of?
San Antonio, Texas, a little bit,
which the Portuguese were also there in San Antonio.
You can see why it would be reminding me of a San Antonio a bit.
Riverwalk. Yeah.
The Portuguese love building around
rivers.
There's something going on with World Tourism Day, 2025.
Something like that is coming up. All right.
Oh, maybe later, sir. Thank you, sir. Oh, this is so cool.
Really cool. I love this city. Thank you.
Now it's kind of reminded me of the, I will later, sir. Thank you.
It's kind of reminded me of a Singapore's boat key.
Hello, sir. So nice. Oh, reggae on the river.
That's good. Yeah.
The city is like San Antonio meets Singapore.
That's kind of what this city reminds me of. Looks good, sir.
Junker. As you can see, the, uh, the bridges,
the main city area, it seems like the main center
because that's where everyone would have to come across the bridge.
Sure. They have little boats crossing that you could pay like little water
taxis. Here's another bridge.
Let's see what's going on over here. A lot of the, uh,
work gets done at night because it's so hot in the daytime.
You almost don't want to be outside when the direct sun's beating down.
Oh, wow. Look at this. So cool.
Maybe I should keep going this way. Hello, sir.
Not right now, sir. Thank you. This is a real cool place. Hello.
Thank you so much.
I would definitely stop if it wasn't my first time here and I wanted to
familiarize myself with it.
Otherwise I would have probably already stopped and had a couple of beers and
some food. Ground here is quite shaky.
I would say when you first arrive here, maybe do a river boat tour.
That way you can see what it looks like and then walk it.
It's very colorful. Wow. Nice.
I don't know how many days I'll stay in Malacca,
but I can definitely tell you one thing.
It's not the last time I'll come here. Actually,
I just did Ipoh and that one amazed me. The old town there.
They don't really have an old town in Kuala Lumpur.
Bukit Bintang, they have Jalan Alor, I guess.
But, Oh, look at this. What's down here?
Back alleys. I just want to see if it's worth it to walk.
We're here. Lots of Chinese influence. This is like Chinatown for sure.
Yeah. So nice. So try and be near the water,
river. It seems like that's where you want to be.
You got the Riverside Hotel right there.
So this here is Zahed. Oh, look at, they got some, uh,
all right. Wow. This is called Zahed Road.
Hello. How are you? No shirt, no bra.
Well, after an interesting night hanging out in
Malacca, we've got firework viewing. Yeah.
I went out, had some fun,
met some people and I'm walking back to where I began this tour.
I was actually at this place called the Old Merchant. It was nice, but wow,
I'm surprised it's, uh, 1130 at night and they're still running
these, uh, water taxis at 1130 PM.
Here's the Golden Triangle.
So we're just walking, seeing what's open, seeing what's happening.
Who knows? Hello, sir. How are you?
Just keep in mind it is a Tuesday night, so we'll see what happens.
All right. It looks like I'm going over the bridge.
I've got some sort of party happening over here.
This city reminds me of Bokeh in Singapore, like a lot.
Hello.
This is one of the many bridges they have here. The Heritage City, Malacca.
Welcome to Malacca World Heritage City, Malacca, Georgetown,
historic cities of the Straits of Malacca,
Malaysia being subscribed on 7 July, 2008.
Quebec, Canada by UNESCO. Well,
you can see you've got a lot going on. Medusa, Reggae on the River.
I walked over here earlier.
This is just a really amazing city.
I would have to say it's better than Penang.
Like anyone who tells you that it's better than Penang is better.
It doesn't know. But if you're a tourist,
I'm going to tell you right now, Malacca over Penang.
Now, as far as Malacca over KL, Kuala Lumpur,
I would say if you're coming to Malaysia,
prioritize
KL and Malacca.
And it's the cool thing is it's really close to KL.
There's the hard rock over there.
Turns out he's a gangster.
Oh, wow. Look at this. Great at night. Huh?
So colorful. Malacca river cruise.
It will be for 40 minutes ride. 40 minutes ride.
Oh, that's good. I like it. Is that a hotel? Yeah. It's a hotel.
What's the name? It's a Casa Del Rio. It's a five star hotel. Oh,
Casa Del Rio. Okay. I like it.
So this one's Dutch and this one's Portuguese. Yeah, this is Portuguese.
The place, you can show your video. The red house. This is the Dutch.
The red house. Yeah. Actually this building.
