Bonjour. Let's practice this A1 level dialogue together. This one is perfect for beginners in
French. Now, I'm going to say the text in red and you're going to say the text in blue. But first,
I'm going to go through the full script with you. Then, I'm going to translate it and then
you will have a go. So let's have a look at this really simple dialogue for beginners.
Salut.
Exactement. Vivement les vacances.
OK. So we've read the text together. You've seen it. And now we are going to go through the text
and translate it as well as we can. But I'm sure that you can translate it as well. Look at what I
say first. Salut. Comment ça va? Hi. How are you? And of course, we have other ways of saying
how are you, but comment ça va is a typical way of saying how are you in French. To this,
because you're blue, you're going to say salut. Ça va bien. Et toi? Hi. I'm fine. Ça va bien.
Or you could have said bien. Et toi? And you, you could have said comment ça va? OK. How about
you? How are you? To this, I say ça va. Il fait froid aujourd'hui. Non. I'm fine. It's cold today.
Now remember that when we refer to the weather in French, we use il fait. It is doing. So it
is doing cold. Il fait froid. It is doing hot. Il fait chaud, par exemple. OK. Il fait froid.
Non. As in no. As in isn't it. Isn't it cold today? To this, you say oui. Très froid. Yes.
Very cold. Il fait cinq degrés ce matin. So il fait. Again, it's doing. It does.
Five degrees this morning. That's the temperature. It's five degrees this morning. Très,
as in the intensifier, meaning very. OK. It's very cold. You could have said trop,
as in too much. It's too cold. Trois fois. And then to this, I say est-ce que tu penses
qu'il va neiger? Do you think that it's going to snow? So here we've got two things going on.
It's the question, you know, using est-ce que, the tagline, est-ce que, is it that? And then
tu penses que, you are going to think. And then we're using the near future. It's going to snow.
Il va neiger. OK. Now remember, we don't have it. So we are going to say il or elle or whatever.
In that respect, it's impersonal. We say il, the same as il fait here. Il va neiger. OK.
So do you think it's going to snow? Est-ce que tu penses qu'il va neiger? Je ne sais pas.
You're going to say je ne sais pas. But if you wanted to sound like a native, you say je ne sais
pas. Je ne sais pas. That's another way of saying I don't know. We contracted everything. Je ne sais
pas. I do not know. Can you see the negation ne and pas here between sais, which is the present
of savoir. Je sais. I know. Je ne sais pas. I don't know. Peut-être demain. Maybe tomorrow.
To this, I say j'aime la neige. Mais pas le froid. I love the snow. I like the snow. But
not the cold. See how we've done pas, not. OK. Pas le froid. Not the cold. Moi aussi, la neige
est jolie. Mais je préfère l'été. So do I. Moi aussi. So do I. OK. Me too. La neige est jolie.
The snow is nice. It's pretty jolie. La neige would be referred to as elle if we were to replace
this subject by a subject pronoun. So it would be she is nice. Hence why jolie as an e at the end.
It's an adjective and I need to apply the rule that it needs to agree in gender and number with
the subject or noun we are referring to. In that case, it is singular and it is feminine. So la
neige is a lady. And to this, I say oui. L'été, il fait chaud et on peut aller à la plage. Yes.
During the summer, in the summer, so été summer, learn your seasons. And I've got lots of videos
about the, you know, seasons and months and days which you can watch. Il fait chaud. So we had
il fait froid. And now we have il fait chaud. It's hot. Et on peut aller à la plage. And one can go
to the beach. And we can go to the beach. It's warm. And on peut, you can go to the beach. But
literally on means one or we as well. Exactement. Vivement les vacances. Exactly. Can't wait for
the holidays. So vivement, vivement demain. Can't wait for tomorrow. So learn this word. It's a
very funny little word, vivement. Vivement les vacances. Oui. So now we've done this dialogue
A1 dialogue together. I would like to do it with you. Okay. There is no rush. You can go as slowly
as fast as you can. Remember, don't forget to click on the join button to get access to the
support guide for this video. Let's have a look at the dialogue. Now remember, rouge, bleu. Are
you ready? I start. Salut. Comment ça va? Ça va. Il fait froid aujourd'hui, non? Est-ce que tu
penses qu'il va neiger? J'aime la neige mais pas le froid. Oui. L'été il fait chaud et on peut
aller à la plage. Okay. So how did you find this A1 level? Now remember, this is a beginner's
dialogue. Okay. So if you want another like this, then click here and for a slightly harder one,
