I am so excited about today's video guys. Today we're talking about another medicinal plant.
We're talking about the incredible leaf of life plant also known as miracle leaf. The scientific
name is Bryophyllum pinnatum and I'll put the name right here so you can see it. Remember I am not a
doctor. There's nothing in this video should be taken as medical advice and nothing in this video
should replace you speaking to your doctor and seeing your doctor. This is just information that
is on the internet and some information based on things I have tried. You guys have the option of
doing the same sharing information below for each of these videos in this series. I'm going to have
the links below that shows where I got my information from and within those links there
are going to be additional links showing the research that each of the um each article got their
information from. This has been linked to numerous health benefits and it's been used extensively as
a herbal remedy. It was originally from Madagascar but it is this is actually growing throughout
Africa. I know in the Caribbean in Jamaica where I grew up we have this plant. The fascinating
thing about this plant guys is that this can grow a new plant just from one leaf. Each of these
leaves can become its own plant literally that's why I'm keeping it in a pot and I'm going to
actually be transferring this pot onto my patio because literally if one of these leaves drop
it's going to take over the area. Anyway this is a really good plant so it's widely used as a herbal
remedy to treat various respiratory conditions. It's been used to treat asthmas, colds, coughs,
shortness of breath, bronchitis. It also has antibacterial, antifungal and antihistamine
properties and of course that makes sense if it has antihistamine properties that's why it
treats those respiratory conditions. It can also be used to treat kidney stones. It has a mild
sedative effect so it can help with with sleep issues. It lowers blood sugar. It lowers
triglycerides and it's known to lower blood pressure. It also helps with arthritis and it's
been widely used for skin hydration. So fun fact Clarence. I know a lot of you might be
familiar with the upscale skincare product called Clarence. One of their secret ingredients
is actually leaf of life. I actually checked on their website and some of the products cost $135
$185 for two ounces guys and the one of the products one of the ingredients is a leaf of life
so leaf of life is thought to be extremely hydrating extremely water retentive so it
kind of helps the skin to maintain the moisture so guys you know what I'm going to be adding to
my body butters. I've been making a whole bunch of body butters and hair oils lately. I will
definitely be adding this because you know as we age we need that hydration in our skin.
The tea when we infuse the tea with leaves with the leaf of life leaves it actually acts as a
diuretic so as I mentioned it does help to lower the blood pressure and because of all these
benefits guys this plant has actually attracted investors to start growing leaf of life on a
commercial scale just so that they can keep up with the pharmaceutical and the cosmetic industry so
it's really a very fascinating plant. So how do you use it? This can either be consumed as a tea
or it can be blended in juices or it can be eaten raw and we're gonna try one in a few minutes.
We can apply a poultice to injuries so if you have like some kind of pain the leaf of life you
can crush the leaves that create like a poultice and then you can apply it to the area of pain
and that helps to promote faster healing. It's also thought to also prevent infections.
So precautions of course we always have to look at the precautions. If taking not taking in the
proper doses or taking in excess this can cause stomach pain, diarrhea and nausea if you use it
in a very high dose. As I always say if you're pregnant or breastfeeding consult a doctor before
trying anything new. There are studies out there that have showed that they did some sleep studies
with pregnant women that were having sleep issues and it helped and it didn't affect the fetus but
I would definitely check with a doctor first because other research I did said it should
not be consumed during pregnancy. So always it's always best to be cautious or be more
cautious or overly cautious especially if you're pregnant. You don't want any damage to you or
the baby. Not bad. I could add this to my shake. Not bad at all. It just tastes green. It tastes
almost like an unripe food like a green green fruit like if you eat like if you were to pick
a star fruit then it's completely green but not bad. So guys that's it for today's video
leaf of life. It's just fascinating. I actually this plant here I had actually gotten one leaf
from my friend Diane. It fell off her plant and I got it and I rested it on on this pot.
I rested it on this pot and I meant to transplant it when I came back and as you can see the plant
is now bigger than the than the little plant that I got. The leaf of life plant is actually bigger
than the um the coral plant that I originally got from Diane. Anyway guys that's it for for today's
video. Be sure to hit like and subscribe. Hit the notification bell so you don't miss
any other videos for this medicinal plant series. Bye now!
