This car has finally arrived.
I have placed an order within the last 10 minutes
for the Tesla Model Y Long Range,
Long Range All-Wheel Drive.
So in Australia right now,
you can buy it in the new launch edition.
The new launch edition is a few thousand dollars
more expensive, but you do get standard paint colors.
You don't have to pay any extra money
for different paint options.
Meaning the Long Range All-Wheel Drive
is basically the same price as the previous version
of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive.
I'll compare this car in a series of tests
versus my X-Peng G6.
I'll tell you guys what I think
and how they actually compare.
One big change on the new Model Y.
Panel gaps have been significantly reduced.
And Tesla say that this is because
of a new casting method they're using
that reduces the number of parts
on the existing Tesla Model Y
from 70 parts down to one.
They said that that means that they can make the car
much more aerodynamically efficient,
stronger, more rigid.
It's also gonna be faster for Tesla to manufacture them.
Tesla famously manufactured their cars
at the fastest pace of any car company in the world,
but now they've just stepped the game up significantly.
Hello, my friends.
Welcome to the channel.
I'm Sam Evans.
You're watching Electric Viking.
Great to have you with us.
Welcome to all the new subscribers.
Guys, if you can support us on the channel
as a YouTube member, that'd be amazing.
I'll put a link in the description below.
Tesla Model Y in China is the same price.
The new Juniper version, it gets 10% more range.
In Australia, though, there is a launch edition
and it will significantly increase the price,
but you do get options for free that are normally a cost.
So you get every paint color you can choose,
whatever paint color you want,
and you've gotta pay more, though.
The launch option of this car is,
it's a fair bit more expensive.
Pricing for the new Tesla Model Y
has been revealed in Australia
and it's been revealed in China.
It's, well, significantly more expensive in Australia,
$7,500 for the standard range version.
The long range version,
only a small increase in price, though,
not much difference for that version.
Now, we don't have the price yet for the United States.
We know these will be delivered in Australia in May.
You can buy them already on the Australian website.
We get the Chinese version, though.
That's probably the reason why
you can already buy the Chinese version in China.
You can place an order today, immediately,
in multiple countries worldwide.
Now, because Tesla have chosen to put 20-inch wheels
on the Model Y here in Australia,
the range, we won't get the big range boost
that we're seeing that people are gonna get in China.
Range is increased by around 10% in China,
only by a small margin here in Australia.
Pricing, the price in Australia,
it starts at $63,400, about $40,000.
That's an increase of $7,500 Australian dollars,
an increase of $5,000 US dollars.
The long range all-wheel drive
has been an increase in price, but not as much.
It's $73,400, so the price has increased
by $3,500 Australian dollars,
meaning a price increase of just over $2,000 US dollars.
Very small increase.
Like I said, though, it has bigger wheels.
I don't know if that's a good decision
because that means the range only improves
by a small margin instead of the big margin
that it would have improved by otherwise.
Range is now 466 kilometers on the WLTP test cycle
for the rear-wheel drive version.
That's the standard version that most people buy.
Range has gone to 551 kilometers for the long range,
which is an increase of 18 kilometers.
So not a lot of difference.
In China, they've increased by a lot more than that.
Range has gone up by around 50 to 60 kilometers in China.
Tesla have revealed it's much more powerful.
It has around 100 horsepower more,
about 65, 70 kilowatt more power,
meaning the standard range model is now,
does the same speed as my, sorry, as my XPeng G6,
5.9 seconds, zero to 100.
So it's one second faster, zero to 100.
The Chinese version is actually much faster than that.
It does it in around 5.3 seconds.
Long range all-wheel drive, 4.3 seconds.
So performance for the long range all-wheel drive
has also significantly improved by 0.7 seconds.
Big difference, guys, big difference.
Long range all-wheel drive probably gets around
80 to 90 horsepower more power
than the existing Tesla Model Y.
You can get a launch series version of this car.
I don't know what that means,
but you can get a launch series version.
And that will come standard
with the acceleration boost software upgrade
that is optional in these pre-update models.
Now, Tesla says the suspension has been radically changed.
It's been retuned.
It's completely new.
It will provide much better comfort,
smoother handling, and more responsive steering.
So the steering's gonna be more like a,
a bit more sporty, a bit more like a sports car.
There's an updated wheel and tire package,
as I mentioned before,
which will help offer a smoother driving experience
as well as more grip.
Now, only 20-inch alloy wheels are available,
which like I said, I don't understand that.
I think they should have 18s or 19s,
which would enable you to get
at least another 50 kilometers of range out of the car.
Maybe that'll come later as an option.
Tesla have said that the body castings have been changed.
They say that reduces the number of parts in the vehicle,
which will help reduce road noise,
make the car a little bit lighter,
a little bit more structurally rigid.
That's probably the biggest change with this vehicle,
I think, that's gonna actually affect it.
There is new ventilated front seats
and colorful ambient lighting,
though I believe the indicators
are still controlled via a stalk.
So you still use the stalk, unlike the Model 3.
A lot of people criticize the Model 3 buttons.
You don't have buttons on the steering wheel for indicating.
However, there is no column-mounted gear shifter anymore.
So I like the column-mounted gear shifter.
I'm disappointed they've removed that.
Gear selection will be done via the touchscreen,
like it is on the Tesla Model 3.
So that's a big change.
The touchscreen is a little bit bigger.
It's gone from 15 inches to 15.4 inches.
Not a big difference.
There is an eight-inch touchscreen for rear passengers
who sit on power-reclining seats.
So it's more of a luxury car, I think you could say.
The rear seats recline and electrically recline.
So that's a big difference.
Launch Series models wear unique badging on the door seals.
They have puddle lights and a tailgate light.
Plus, they have black suede trim on the dashboard.
You can't get the Model Y in black anymore.
It comes in Glacier Blue, Pearl White,
Stealth Gray, Quicksilver, and Ultra Red.
Paint colors are no-cost options on Launch Series models.
So I think what Tesla are planning on doing here,
the price will be higher, as you can see,
for Launch Series models.
When they've exhausted that,
probably within a few months of these vehicles going on sale,
then this price will come back down
to probably the original price that they are today.
So the price will probably come back down by $6,000, $7,000
for the standard range model
once all the Launch Series options have been sold.
But it actually isn't a bad deal.
If you think about it,
if a Launch Series model comes with paint as no-cost option,
then that price is actually coming down
on some of the models
because it means that Quicksilver and Ultra Red,
they are actually, that cost is factored into the price,
meaning the long range is no more expensive
than what it was before.
Pretty much the same price,
but it's got a lot more power,
it's got a bit more range,
it's got new wheels, new suspension.
This is a much, much better car
than the existing or the old Tesla Model Y.
As I was filming this video,
we got prices of the new Model Y Juniper.
Prices are here, range is here.
Range is longer than the existing Tesla Model Y.
It's more than 700 kilometers of CLTC range.
The standard range Tesla Model Y price has been revealed
and the long range, the details of the interior, exterior.
We don't have all of them yet, but we have a lot of them.
Here they are.
First of all, the price.
The standard range Tesla Model Y starts at,
it's a similar price to what it was before,
pretty damn close.
I mean, the price is a couple of percent different,
bit more slight, a few thousand dollars,
about $900 more expensive.
Basically the same price to be honest
as the existing Model Y for the standard range,
but the standard range does get more range.
It uses a 62.5 kilowatt hour battery pack.
I believe that battery is from CATL.
We don't know exact details of the battery yet,
but we do know this car is much faster
than the standard range Model Y you can currently buy.
I mean, way faster.
It'll do zero to 100 in 5.3 seconds.
That's the standard range version.
It has CLTC range of 593 kilometers,
suggesting the range will be around 500 kilometers WLTP,
probably around 50 kilometers more range,
around 10% more range than the existing
standard range Tesla Model Y.
That's the bread and butter for Tesla, right?
Now, the long range all wheel drive
has a battery pack with a capacity of 78.4 kilowatt hours.
I believe that's also a,
actually I don't know what battery that is.
Got to get back to you on that.
CLTC range is 720 kilometers,
meaning range for this all wheel drive version
of the Model Y is significantly longer
than the existing or the superseded version of the Model Y.
At 720 kilometers, CLTC translates
to around about 600 kilometers WLTP.
That's not the rear wheel drive version, guys.
That's the all wheel drive version of the Model Y.
Range there is also increased by approximately 10%,
a little bit more than 10% increase
in range from what I can see.
That'll go zero to 100 in 4.3 seconds.
That's not the performance version.
So this is faster than the existing Tesla Model Y.
Not a huge amount faster, just a little bit faster.
But the main thing you're getting here is additional range.
You're gonna be getting about 10% more range.
So that's a big bonus considering the price is the same.
So the same price as the existing model.
The price for the standard range in China is $35,940 US dollars.
That translates to a price of $41,000 US dollars.
$41,000 US dollars.
That seems to be a pretty amazing deal
for all wheel drive, long range,
new version of the Model Y.
I mean, surprising to me that Tesla
hasn't increased their prices at all.
The prices are basically the same as the old version.
In Australian dollars, that is $66,700.
$66,700.
So in Australia, the existing version
of the all wheel drive long range is $70,000 Australian.
Very similar price.
I'm gonna guess the price won't change in Australia.
For both of these models,
I think it's gonna be about the same.
It might go up by $1,000,
but it won't change much at all
based on what we're seeing from the prices in China.
Now, there are some other details we have here.
It comes with silver as the standard color.
Silver is the standard color
that you don't pay any extra for.
So a bit of a change there.
The revamped Model Y Tesla have said this.
It has longer range, new design.
I've gotta say, I think the design does look pretty good.
A higher quality interior and it is quieter.
So it has that acoustic glass, right?
It has sound deadening and some other features,
I think that can reduce the noise in the vehicle.
Part of that's to do with the aerodynamics
on the front of the car.
The shape of the actual bonnet of the car
is a little bit different.
Top speed for the standard range
and the long range is 201 kilometers per hour.
So yeah, I mean, it's,
I don't think you'd wanna go any faster than that
in a family car.
So the price to get to change the color
for to either white or blue,
and I believe black as well is 8,000 RMB,
which works out to around just over 1,000 US dollars.
If you want red or silver, then the price is 12,000 RMB.
So about 2,000 US dollars to get red or silver.
Now I should point out,
the standard color is not silver, sorry, it's gray.
So the standard color is like a gunmetal gray type color.
If you wanna get silver, it's about 2,000 US dollars extra.
So I'm gonna guess in Australia about $3,000 extra.
So far, those are the details we have, guys,
on these vehicles.
You can buy them now.
They're available on Tesla's website in China.
I'm gonna guess they'll be available
on the Australian website within probably a matter of,
potentially a matter of hours.
Could be a little longer, I'm not sure,
but it won't be very long.
As you can see, the new Model Y
does have a little bit of a lip spoiler on the back.
I think it actually looks quite cohesive on the rear
and it gets all that extra range.
New images and photos have emerged of the Tesla Model Y.
This is what it will actually look like.
We have confirmation.
It's, you know, it looks a little bit like the CyberCab,
but the interior is actually different
to the Tesla Model 3.
It's got a completely different feature, the steering wheel,
which suggests it might, in fact,
have one of the Cybertruck's new features,
steer-by-wire, which would be, to be honest,
a game changer.
There's no other electric cars in the world
with that feature currently.
Tesla Model Y Juniper facelift.
You can see it here.
It's got a bit of snow on it.
Testing in the snow.
This is what it actually looks like.
I think the rear looks good.
I like the look of the rear of it.
That full-width light bar, I think, suits it.
The front, I'm not sure about the front.
Guys, what are your thoughts on the front of it?
I mean, yeah, it does look a little bit like CyberCab,
but I think the front looks a little bit too low
for what it should actually be.
And, I mean, basically the body of the Tesla Model Y
is kind of rounded and curved,
but then the front is sort of squared off
with that sort of Cybertruck light bar.
I'm not sure.
I mean, I don't think it's a great looking car
like, say, some other EVs, but, you know, it's not bad.
And I think it will be efficient,
more aerodynamically efficient
based on the actual shape of the front of the car.
I think that will be one of the improvements we'll see,
a better aerodynamics, essentially meaning
possibly a bit more range purely from that.
Now, this Model Y you're seeing,
this is the five seat version.
There'll be a version which is stretched and longer,
a longer body, and that will be a seven seat version.
That's gonna be coming in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Now, there's a rear screen in the back.
So basically like the Model 3 rear screen,
you're gonna get that rear screen in the back seats
for rear seat passengers to watch the,
but, you know, watch TV, watch Netflix,
whatever they wanna do.
One interior photo has shown
what looks like perforated leather upholstery.
And it looks like it's actually got the same features
as Tesla Model 3 with those cooled and heated seats.
So, I mean, that's a nice feature.
I'm guessing we're all expecting that.
Mechanical changes.
Well, there's meant to be a new battery.
Everyone's been saying there's new batteries coming.
There's also new springs and dampers coming.
Remember as well, there was new subframe mounting points
for the Model 3, which improved the ride.
So the Model Y will have a better ride,
be more comfortable.
And it's also gonna have an improved interior.
You can see the interior looks much, much nicer
than the existing Model Y.
It's got a different dashboard.
I mean, the dashboard's similar, but it's got that,
you know, they've removed the wood look
and they've got a suede Alcantara type look in there,
which is pretty similar to my car, the X-Pink G6.
So I think they've done a good job there.
But intriguingly, what interests me the most
from these recent spy photos we've seen,
are they spy photos?
I don't know.
Did Tesla intentionally release them?
Maybe, maybe not.
Who knows?
The steering wheel.
Now the steering wheel is, it's not a yoke,
but it's very much squared off.
And it's, well, a lot of people think that that means
there's a good chance it's gonna get
the Cybertruck's steer-by-wire.
So steer-by-wire enables the ability for manufacturers
to change the steering rack depending,
the sensitivity, depending on how fast you're going.
You're driving really fast, right?
And you put an input into the steering wheel,
you don't want the car to react quickly
because otherwise you're gonna crash.
You want it to have a slower steering rack ratio.
When you're driving slowly and you're trying
to park your car and you're basically trying to U-turn,
then you want the steering rack to be,
have a really, really fast lock.
And that's what the Cybertruck has.
Big advantage, Cybertruck has a really amazing
turning circle.
It does, you can't really argue with that.
It's got the best turning circle for any pickup truck
I think that's ever been made
because of that steer-by-wire feature.
It looks like that feature could come to the Model Y.
Tesla employees at showrooms have even said
that this feature makes it much easier
to maneuver through tight parking areas
than even the Tesla Model 3.
Now I have driven the Cybertruck.
To be honest, I wasn't really in super tight areas.
I did drive it for about an hour or two,
but yeah, I mean, I didn't really notice it that much
and maybe that's a good thing.
I felt like it was easy to drive.
Never even thought about it, to tell you the truth.
What are your thoughts on the new Tesla Model Y?
Is this a deal breaker for you
or is this something where you're like,
hey, this looks good, I'm gonna place an order?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Thanks for watching.
