Welcome to Seville.
We've started our day at Seville's most iconic site, Plaza de España.
So join us today as we explore the city of Seville
and see what this beautiful city has to offer us.
Wow, look up!
Seville is known for many things,
including being the birthplace of flamenco and incredible architecture.
But the thing it's most renowned for is where I'm stood right now.
Plaza de España is one of the most beautiful squares in the entire world.
Right, we're leaving the plaza now.
We've been here for about an hour and a half.
If you want the place to yourself, get in about 7am, I think.
Yeah, it's totally worth it.
Just before sunrise.
We had the place to ourselves.
It was absolutely empty.
And about an hour later...
The tour buses start to arrive.
There's a few hundred people there.
Anyway, we're heading off to the Royal Alcazar of Seville.
That's our next stop.
And it's a nice walk through the garden area.
Yeah, the botanical gardens, they're beautiful.
They smell like a zoo to me.
They smell like the zoo from my childhood.
Which is not a bad thing, it just smells...
Just, you're expected to see a few elephants.
Yeah.
But we're going to walk through here now,
and then hopefully there won't be too big of queues
for us to get into the Alcazar of Seville.
Because apparently it's very, very popular.
It's more popular than the square.
So we'll see.
We're currently walking around the University of Seville.
This former royal tobacco factory was built in the 1800s
and took over 40 years to complete.
At the time of completion,
it was actually one of the largest industrial sites
in the world.
But today it's an absolutely beautiful university
and you're free to wander around it.
So finding the Alcazar of Seville
is a little bit more difficult than we thought.
You kind of have to walk around the entirety of the castle,
keeping the wall on your left side,
and you eventually find yourself in a square like this.
And then you'll see the queue, basically, to get in.
It's not too long.
Sean is in the queue for us now.
And we're going to be taking a look inside.
I'm actually really excited
because I've read a lot about this place
and how beautiful the architecture is inside.
So let's go check it out for ourselves.
If you want to get the tickets for Alcazar,
you can queue up and you can get a time slot.
Unfortunately, today the only time slots are available.
We're late this afternoon.
So if you do want to come here
and you know in advance what day you're going to be here,
make sure you book your ticket online
so that you can guarantee an entrance.
But for us, we're just going to have another quick look
around the city,
and then we're going to head off to Gibraltar
in about an hour or two.
Seville Cathedral just behind us,
they're both the largest area of a cathedral in the world
and is certified by Guinness World Records.
Yeah, they display it very proudly as you walk in.
So you can go in and have a look around.
There's a small area that you can walk in for free.
If you want to go up to the bell tower,
which is just here,
expect to queue for a good couple of hours,
but you can reach the top and get 360 views of the city
if that's something that you'd like to do.
And overall, this cathedral is a stunning one.
It's a really impressive one.
Super clean as well.
There's no cars going for this area of the city.
So it's really well preserved.
There's no like black brickwork or anything like that.
It's really nice.
As well as it's not so tall of a cathedral,
it's very large.
So you'll spend a lot of time walking around it.
It gives you a lot of perspective in the area.
So we're going to head into the Old Town Central District,
which is just down this way next,
and have a wander,
see if we can find some good coffee here in Seville.
Yes, that would be nice.
That may be a spot of brunch.
We have stumbled across a vegan cronut shop.
So I am definitely ordering some.
You're going to have cronut?
That smells great.
It smells so good.
Wow, that looks incredible.
Okay, the donut shop is called Chok,
and it's basically in the center of the town.
Look at this.
How good does that look?
I love that, messy.
I don't know how to attack it.
Oh wow.
It's a cross between a donut and a croissant.
Like a lighter version of a donut, though?
Definitely lighter.
You want to try it?
No.
Oh, my nose as well.
So behind me and above me is the Metropole Parasol,
also known as the Mushrooms of Seville and Las Cetas.
It's five levels all the way up to the top
where you get to the rooftop
where you can see 360 views of Seville.
The structure in itself is wooden and quite unique.
I've not seen anything like it before,
especially in the center of the city.
And the surrounding area is full of bars
and shops for you to explore.
We really had a good time.
Yeah, it's a great city.
We're really glad we got up bright and early
and got to Plaza España when it was completely empty.
That was a really special time, wasn't it?
It really was.
You don't often get a place all to yourself
that's so renowned,
so it was nice to spend the morning running around it.
But overall, I've loved Seville.
It feels like there's history around every corner here
and there's so much to explore and to do.
Yeah, and what struck me is how green it is.
It's actually the hottest city, I think, in Spain,
yet there's lots of trees and gardens
and yeah, there are places like that.
Apparently, it gets up to 40 degrees in the summer here,
which is really hot.
That's a bit too hot, especially with bike clothes on.
Yeah, definitely.
Speaking of which, we're going to head back to the bike now,
pick it up from the hotel,
and we're going to head further south.
Last time south on this tour.
Is that right?
Yeah.
To Gibraltar, which we're really looking forward to seeing.
Hopefully going to see some monkeys.
We don't make off with anything.
But yeah, if you get the chance to come to Seville,
maybe a couple of days would be what you need here.
Yeah, there's so much to do.
You can get tapas with your family
and enjoy that experience.
Then you can do a flamenco show.
You can take tours outside to the different regions.
This is really a good hub for you
to come to explore south of Spain.
Yeah, and as a reminder,
if you have planned the specific dates to be here,
then that's going to let you book your tickets in advance
for all the attractions.
Right, okay, we're going to head back now.
Let's go.
We're all packed up and ready to leave Seville.
We're heading to Gibraltar next.
If you're here in Seville
and looking for a secure motorcycle parking for your bike,
can recommend this hotel,
the Hotel Catalonia Santa Justa.
They had great underground parking
for seven euros for the bike.
Anyway, Em and I are off to Gibraltar now.
So join us in the next episode
as we explore Gibraltar by motorcycle.
