Hi,
many of you may know that uh the modern
science is uh in English. However, this
language may not be the perfect one if
we talk about uh consciousness and uh
different processes that occur in in the
mind. For example,
uh the word dream. Let's talk about
dreams. In English, it is the same word
that means two completely different
things. The first one is to have a dream
while being asleep. And the second one
is to dream. That means to have a
fantasy or imagining something that will
occur or would occur.
And um from the point of uh neuroscience
uh these two processes are completely
different and I couldn't understand for
a long time what annoys me in this word
dream in this beautiful word dream
actually because in my mother language
we have two separate words for these
processes and I think it could be really
nice if we would do something. Uh if we
talk about dreams because from the point
of neuroscience
if you sleep and you have a dream during
this process your brain consolidates all
the memories, all the information that
you received. And in this case, dreams
correspond to the processes or emotions
or some experiences that occurred in the
past. While if we are talking about
dreaming about I don't know a perfect
date for example. So that would happen
or will happen. In this case, we
anticipate
something and in this case, we talk
about the events in the future. So, I
don't think that in this case the
English verb dream
uh is um is a good is a good word
actually. But anyway, we have to work in
English. Uh so tell me please in the
comments uh do you have the same problem
in your language or you have two
separate words for having a dream while
being asleep or imagining something. So
please share.
