Well, hello and welcome to Over-the-Vest Nurseries on a beautiful summer's day.
The temperature's getting up there, that's true, but you know what? It's really great to be outside.
There's a very pleasant breeze blowing, and as you see, I'm surrounded by lots of gorgeous,
very colorful plants. Ones that are perfect for bringing color and interest into our lives,
and into our gardens, and helping to brighten things up around our homes. And if you're looking
to find out about some plants that you could grow in your garden during the summer months,
can I suggest that you think about clicking and subscribing to this channel,
and then as we post new videos, which we're doing all the time, you'll find they'll turn up
automatically in your feed. Lots of really good plants that are available through a network of
garden centers in this region, that's the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Now the
plants I'm featuring today on this wagon are of course, Coneflowers, and as you see, there's lots
of different types, but the one I wanted to show you here on the end of this wagon is really very
special, because this is one of the most recent hybrids to come from the prowess, the breeding
prowess, of Harini Colopera at Terra Nova Nurseries. This is Echinacea Moab Sunset,
and just like the Red Rocks, it's a plant that shows off magnificent color. What's more, this
is a bushy, compact, very free-flowering, and sturdy plant. Just look at how these stock,
sturdy, stocky stems hold up and show off the beautiful flowers that are just now emerging.
As you see, they come out first with this kind of flattish characteristic, but then as they develop
and as they become more mature, you'll see they develop into these anemone-shaped flower heads
that have this bright, beaming kind of orange color that really brings a lot of vibrancy
into our gardens. Here's a plant that will get to about 18 inches to 20 inches or so high,
spread out to make a clump of about the same, perhaps 18 inches to 2 foot wide or thereabouts,
but one of the characteristics you're going to see is that it produces lots of flower buds that
pop up from the center of the crown, and then of course provide all of this wonderful, vibrant
color. Hardy throughout our region, this is a Zone 4 plant, it's easy to grow in a sunny or
partially shaded site that's free-draining. One little tip I'll give you, and that is that if
you're looking for a site to plant this out in, just make sure, they'll do well on an average
garden soil, but just make sure that the site you plant it into is going to be nice and free-draining,
they don't do in wet, soggy, dump, clay-type situations. So, gravelly, gritty soil certainly,
dig a good-sized hole, incorporate plenty of organic matter, water them well until they
get established, and then you'll find that you'll have a beautiful clump of flowering perennials
that will give you all of this fabulous display from the early part of midsummer right through
to the autumn time. Beautiful, tight, sturdy, compact, free-flowering variety,
this is Echinacea Moab Sunset.
