3 Days Exploring the Misty Mountains of Alaska

All right, we got the crew back together some new faces Josh Cass Sean, Dash, and Ted We're hiking up into the mountains today and tomorrow And we're looking for a crashed plane This rock right here me and Dash climbed two days ago Which was really fun so If you're into climbing Sweet, if you're not into climbing Hope you hope you learned something. I'm gonna cut to that now Dash and our friend group is known as the goat man. He loves rock climbing. So this is his thing It's also my thing No, you hated climbing until the very day until I realized how sick it is out here. I don't like climbing and Boring climbs like we're mission gorgeous pretty boring. Yes. It was no We did it like a million times and it's like, all right Trying to figure out where a multi-pitch climb is get one big one in right over there. It doesn't start down there Okay, this is a 510 a yeah Not the hardest thing done, but it's the hardest thing done in a while a long time These conditions are pretty good Look gotcha He made it to the anchor for the first anchor Nice So now he's at the anchor and because this climb is so tall It's called a multi-pitch and so now he's gonna tie in up there and then he's gonna belay me from that spot and I'll climb up behind and clean all the gear All right, that's me All right climbing You're right, dude, there are no holds That's crazy You take for a sec. I'm about to fall Dude Had some chalk Haha, that was tough halfway I'm actually gonna take one of these off because I want to put a quick draw here before I start climbing. You warm yet? This isn't bagpipes Some class 5 rapid Wet rocks muddy shoes Not the best combo Under all these rocks is the creek that we've been following Drop something in here. You're not getting it back Something about that garbage bag so We went up the wrong trail Check the map And then we got to cross this River I think at some point and get to that side Because the trail will keep going up that way instead of back this way where we were going Maybe it loops around but rather go back to a for sure It's hard to see with all this fog, too. I Think we found where we're supposed to cross Fully waterproof Hold I was gonna try and step it, but I don't know Yeah Okay, first checkpoint we reached the lower lake here But oh see a marmot but We're gonna keep going to the upper lake. It's only 530 Made it to the snow fields Because the path is gonna be another thousand feet higher than this it's gonna be more snow Yeah, and less people have traveled on it. So it's gonna be still pretty post Holy Yeah, and then we have another pass after that So we could head back to one of those campsites if our if we're set on not going all the way Possibly or we could just camp in the snow here and then head back tomorrow But I think going on like the snow is only gonna get deeper Everything in between is gonna be deep. Yeah. Yeah, the glaciers are gonna be deep Oh, yeah, that's what I said, there might be a campsite maybe not. Yeah, that's what I said I said it. Yeah first There's like a marmot or something squeaking I just hear like a constant squeak. Yeah. Oh, I've heard a mosquito for the past hour No, they're not up. There's too cold. Oh, yeah, you sure? Hold on. Oh If we do it go in the morning when the snows colder and drop and drop packs and just go up quick and back down We're gonna head up here and look for a somewhat dry spot camping the snow is not bad, but Will be nice to be a little dry. This snow is really slushy It's small whatever it is, that's not yeah and look how close their feet are together Yeah, how on top of the snow they are like that looks like they're light. Yeah, so I'm like that looks like a Lynx Prick could be All its tracks Yeah Any poop experts, let me know You decided we're gonna camp here on the snow Right next to the land not many flat spots For dinner, we're gonna go get some water down at the lake I don't want to get in there and start boiling and then you're trying to throw stuff in Yeah How could I forgotten about the taters Check this out. Good morning It's a little windy this morning, which is in our favor because it's blowing these clouds Away, hopefully because we have to go Up this path if we still decide to go Sun is nice Clouds roll in from the south It is open from the north we must go what's the Braveheart speech we're going I'll give it before we walk into ding hell. What's up Yeah, I I think we'll have to come back in August when there's No snow also walk I I'm not you have more glacier experience than I do Sean, but with this Would it be safer to walk on a glacier with this much snow? Where it's kind of compact on top or would you rather be no snow? and it's just the ice where you can kind of see the You'll be able to see the colossus Currently for this glacier, I haven't read too much into it. But from what I've heard is there's There's only two big ones and they're both to the side of the glacier And I don't think they start anywhere near the plane I don't know anything about snowbird Glacier though, but I know like for the most part most of these Mountains crevasses are pretty tame That's why people are able to just hike right up Yeah, there's there's also a huge boulder field that we would have to cross and in this fog I don't think we would be able to see Where we're going I was able to get the drone up before the fog rolled in though and get a glimpse of the plane But there's there's like there's still so much snow that it looked like just the wings were exposed so Rather come up here in August when we could see the whole thing Yeah Good one is good Your foot your right foot touch a blade of grass Well it cleared up down here, but It's still super foggy up top. So I Keep going back and forth whether we made the right decision or not, but I think we did It was a decision. So Found the perfect spot to play mermaids Sun is gone. So we actually decided to go back up We yeah, we went to the plane.
