Public Land Hog hunt with the APA Black Mamba Pro! We covered a ton of ground during this hunt, but our perseverance ended up getting rewarded with a last minute shot on a really nice hog to close the night off. Finding the arrow was difficult, let alone tracking the blood trail through the thick mangroves, but we got it done. All right by now you guys are familiar enough with the walk-in.
Going after pigs again. We got real real close yesterday.
Ended up finding one that my buddy had killed. He had gut shot her and then she ran probably 300 yards
and I found her bundled up. She had already passed but there was a big hog that was coming up
and messed with her body and that's when I came across him.
And I know right where that spot is. I got a little pen marking it. So we're gonna walk in.
Today we are geared to the backs of God. It's a much warmer day so I'm dressed kind of more in
spring weather. I got the Black Mamba Pro with me. We got the GoPro mount. Love that thing.
I just got back from the range making sure I'm sighted in out to 100.
Brought my rangefinder with me just so I never make that mistake again. It's in that
front pocket of the the orange vest I'm wearing. But if you're curious I know some of you guys
nerd out about arrows and crap like that. It's like an arrow is an arrow to me.
But I use Gold Tip Hunter's 300 spine. I've used Gold Tip Hunter XT's before.
They're a little bit, I think it's 0.003 instead of 0.006.
But you're not really going to notice any difference. Holy crap that deer was bedded
right there. Whoa I've never seen a deer on this side when I walk in. That's pretty cool.
It's pretty new. It's always weird to me how you the center of this area is kind of like a tall
grassland, deserted land, Sahara type thing. And then you go walk to one of the edges. So I'm
walking to the far edge here. And you end up in like this luscious land like this. We came
through the back of all this. This way. So we wanted to get behind them. That got a lot bigger.
Okay for right now I think we're just going to post up right here.
This looks like a really heavy traffic area. There's just a lot of
sign and a lot of trails that are converting.
I'm going to try to stay low and take advantage of some of these mangroves.
Block the wind. Hopefully my scent won't carry. I'm at a severe disadvantage when it comes to
the direction of the wind today. It's very swirly. So really anything could happen.
I don't have too much battery on the phone so I might be talking to you guys through the
GoPro here in a little bit. See ya. I can't tell you how many times that the moment has come
where the animal goes by that you've been waiting for and you press the button on your GoPro.
Batteries will just be like burn up or something. It's like terrible timing but it happens all the
time. So just checking. We've been in this spot for probably 15 minutes and I'll probably stay
here another five or so minutes and then I might migrate a little farther in because I'm not hearing
anything over here. I was hoping that I'd hear some grunting or maybe some big squeal or something
like that but I'm not hearing any action. So I think they moved a little bit north of where I am
so we might change positions. Still the same strategy just different location.
We always got to check the field. That's where that shot with the ballista bat.
I thought I had my compound. That thing would have been done.
Okay we got the shot done. It was a good shot. That pig's not going far. Let's find that arrow.
Find that blood trail. Find that pig. Golly. This arrow was such a pain to find.
Holy cow. It's supposed to have a lighted nock and it didn't turn on but it deployed.
That is a really really nicely bloody bloody arrow and it's nice. Doesn't smell at all.
He's not going to be far. So here's the arrow. I'm gonna go get my bow and put my bow here
and then we'll follow that trail. Okay we're already starting out. Blood on here.
Took off up this way. Should be bleeding pretty good especially if there's blood squirting right
there. I thought he went up here somewhere. Maybe looped around. Freaking yes. We found our second.
It took so long to find this second one. Holy cow. Yes we're on her little trail.
Oh man. Finally found her. Holy cow. Is that quite the... Look at what I'm in.
This is like so incredibly thick. It's ridiculous. But I did not want this pig's life to go to waste.
Oh she's a perfect size. She's beautiful. She actually is really pretty.
Let me show you the setup we're working with. So I wasn't really positive that I was going to get a
pig but this is a really really nice size one. So I already field dressed him and I've got him
just kind of hanging in the backpack at the back side. Just loosen your straps all the way even if
your backpack isn't meant for carrying stuff. After you field dress him he really doesn't
weigh that much. So I've got the easy carry handle on the Black Mamba and then I've got this
guy just on the backpack. So all in all it's really not bad and I just got probably a 35
minute walk back to the car but we did good tonight. Okay well we're about halfway done
with our walk back. That carry handle sure does come in nice, huh? We got our buddy Mr. Pig hanging off the back.
