Cobra Style Serve by Yurie Nabeya | Craziest Serve in Volleyball History. Yurie Nabeya (鍋谷 友理枝, Nabeya Yurie, born 15 December 1993) is a Japanese female volleyball player. She played in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is part of the Japan women's national volleyball team. She participated at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, and the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. On club level she played for Denso Airybees in 2015.
She has a very interesting way of performing the service. During the serve, she sets her right hand so that it looks like a Cobra. Many call her service one of the craziest serves in volleyball history. Her service was therefore named Cobra Style Serve.
Nabea once again had an ace last time round.
The Kabura comes up with another point.
I just can't get over that contact and the zero movement.
So here comes the Kabura serve. Let's have a look at her right hand.
And it's an ace!
Right on time. Fantastic serve from Nabea.
It's just so flat and it's moving and probably even going out of bounds.
Ace! Six all! Great top spin. Super delivery on the service.
The concentration, the pace.
Yuri Nabea coming on to serve. Oh what a substitution as well. Off the bench.
The hammer and ace potentially bring Japan back into this set. Time out Poland
because they're sweating here in Korea.
Nabea serving. Japan leading 17-12.
Difficult service reception from Lenka Derp and it results in an ace.
Ace from Japan! You just can't count them out.
Service specialist for this team.
Gonna cruise the target. Jump spike serve on its way. Oh a misjudgment by Kingdom.
So we've got a set up racing into the backcourt. That's not good.
Oh just that's just a brilliant serve. Well you can fault the defense sometimes
but sometimes you've just got to say what a clever serve and she just
floated that over the net and watched it drop like a stone off the edge of a cliff.
No getting that. In the opening game for Japan and picking up where she left off.
Oh an unreturnable serve from Nabea.
Crazy that Japan haven't played a five-setter yet.
More aces! Unbelievable scenes here.
Nabea rocks in out of rhythm and just upsets the apple cart for Poland
with a couple of heavies from the baseline.
And Nabea gets a net ace. Three-point cushion restored.
Japan with a really good bounce back run of play.
It's a transition. Japan coming on the pie. Mishi!
Nothing wishy-washy about that. That's a brilliant swing into the corner.
And that's just the coach is like. I think he's given up a little bit.
But he's like watching everything develop.
Good serve by Nabea.
That's clipped the antenna. That was even higher.
That's uh there right now just sending it high.
These are physicalities. See if we can go over the top of the block here.
This one's just a little bit wide. That's why she hits the antenna.
Cobra. More in Japan. The Kabura. That's an incredible dig.
That is an incredible swing for Sonolu.
She is banks that one down the line. The referee's giving.
It's all very well. Have a timeout. Tell you what. You haven't done this.
You haven't done that. You haven't done there else.
Okay great. What have we got to do? How can we do it?
Kind of helps. But right now what they have to do is get a good ball in.
And they are struggling in that area to deal with this serving pressure from Japan.
And then Japan finding the gaps in the block.
The other thing as well. You may have played against Japan.
The speed of their movement of the net. And it's going back.
Once again.
Suddenly got themselves into trouble on a volley over.
Just that this is a real lack of understanding of who's doing what at times.
It looks like a little confusion around the net and responsibilities like that play.
Here's a free ball that's passed over the net by minutes.
And she doesn't normally do.
Great pass from Fagoray.
Gabby up so quick.
Just giving her that ball so quickly.
That's well passed by Uzalech.
She did.
By Mbatha.
Oh a little bit of confusion. Free ball Serbia.
Two front court options plus the setter.
Oh what a pickup that is by Ishii.
And that one's into the net.
Did it touch the block?
We're going to have a challenge and quite rightly.
And I only say that because one thing that's come out of this particular play.
Apologies for those of you in that timeout.
Suddenly wondering if what was going on there.
We haven't suddenly just got a slight technical issue with a little bit of a sound.
But hopefully it will be sorted out now very soon.
Great pickup.
Into transition again.
Well that's unfortunate.
Really good play.
You can learn so much by watching how Japan play.
Technically they're amazing.
Well Mbatha you talked about the differences in the libero.
Such a phenomenal defensive player.
Still in the service for Japan.
Target Stella Cruz.
Fastball in but good defense there.
So high ball outside.
Opportunity.
High ball for Dominican.
And off the hands of Nabea.
And out.
The sub is reversed.
It's that ball again.
Off the hand a number.
There's a hole between the blockers.
And the score for Japan.
There's a good serve.
Well kept alive.
High ball behind.
A little tip.
So the middle is not blocking.
She takes that off.
And a chicken wing up.
High ball.
Tip thrown.
Momi's underneath it.
She goes back to Kurogo.
Off the hands and out.
And Japan.
Inching closer to the end line.
13-10.
There's a great dig there.
And kept alive.
There's the finish right off the hands of Martinez.
So that's enough.
Outside header with experience from the Olympics in Rio in 2016.
Hoping for another place in 2021 surely.
On her home country.
For now it's all about trying to level things up against Belgium.
Three points in Arias.
Can't play so far.
And here's Ishikawa.
But the block from Belgium stood tall.
And a monster block takes the point.
Van Avermaet and Lemons together at the net.
Blocking Ishikawa.
So at the service as the...
With those glasses actually looks like a superhero.
Flying through.
Jump float serve.
Good hustle.
Oh yes well played.
There's a classic.
Now sometimes people think it's all about...
