The Scariest Thing About AI

Few weeks ago at Singularity University in Palo Alto,
I learned something that absolutely blew my mind
and has me reevaluating my life.
I'd like to share that with you.
What we learned at Singularity University,
which is a five-day executive program in Silicon Valley
that braces CEOs and executives
for where technology is going
and how it's gonna change the world, is this.
We learned that AI's cost-to-power ratio
is doubling every 3.3 months.
Now, let me explain what this means.
It means every 3.3 months, for the same dollar you spend,
you're getting AI that's twice as powerful
every 3.3 months.
This means that roughly in a year,
roughly in 12 months, AI increases by 16 times.
And in two years, it increases by 256 times.
Now guess, where will AI be by 2030?
That's five years out.
If you look at this doubling,
AI will actually be a million times more powerful by 2030.
One million times more powerful.
Now when this happens, reality and the world
in which we know it is gonna be completely different.
They are now predicting that we might become
a space-faring civilization within our lifespan,
that diseases like cancer might be curable,
that we might solve global warming,
that we might solve desalination
so that the deserts of the world can become rainforests,
that we might solve our political divide.
And every human being in the world
would be able to plug into pure genius intellect.
The way we think about our goals,
the way we think about our health,
the way you're raising your children,
all will have to adapt.
But most people are just not prepared for this.
