The 'Squawk on the Street' crew break down President Trump's new criticism of Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon in a Truth Social post.
The president posting on truth social a few moments ago about tariffs and inflation and calling out Goldman Sachs and chief David Solomon
In so doing he writes the trillions of dollars are being taken in on tariffs
Which he says has been incredible for our country and our stock market in general wealth and just about everything else
It's been proven
He says that even at this late stage tariffs have not caused inflation or any other problems
For the country other than massive amounts of cash pouring into our treasuries coffers. Also, it's been shown
He says that for the most part consumers aren't even paying these tariffs
It's mostly companies and governments many of them foreign picking up the tabs
But David Solomon and Goldman refused to give credit where credit is due
They made a bad prediction long time ago on both the market repercussion and the tariffs themselves and they were wrong
Just like they're wrong about so much else
He says I think that David should go out and get himself a new economist or maybe he ought to just focus on being a DJ
And not bother running a major financial institution Goldman shares are up today not necessarily getting hit on that post
But he clearly read
Jan hot see is his note earlier in the week where
Jan argued that US companies are eating about two-thirds of the tariffs and consumers eating another fifth
Obviously, it was the subject of a discussion that you guys were just having in the top of the hour and talking to Stephen
Mirren about it. I assume the president may be watching right now as well, but I
Well, I think I don't know what else to say
I think David Solomon may have been in not too long ago
Because a number of the CEOs and major banks have been coming in pitching for back to the conversation
We were just having the lead underwriting position potentially on a taking public of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac something
I've been discussing here for some time
It could be a while until that offering actually get occurs, but it's interesting to think that they weren't each other's company not long
I think also, you know, the I mean the president's pretty clear
He's calling out Jan hot see us the chief economist of Goldman Sachs
Even though he's calling out his boss David Solomon because the research, you know
What what they write in terms of the research economy is different than what you know
You get from the heads of the bank
But he's just putting pressure obviously on the CEO because he doesn't like what's coming out from the economist
I will say on Friday was about Intel CEO not being suitable or being conflicted. Yes. Now. He's sending that with him Barry's
Drilling into lower layers of management. I mean, yeah, it is it is
It's unprecedented to see a president get involved at this level
But this is where the president's interests are to a certain extent in the financial markets in the stock market as well as we know
We know that he's he cares about those things
But I would also just say that you know
A lot of the economists were wrong about how the tariffs would impact inflation and the economy
I mean in April when the market was plunging it was doom and gloom. It was put up recession forecast
It was put up inflation forecast. It was the Fed minutes. We're talking about 50% recession odds
It wasn't just corporate America sure
But it was the economists were leading that charge and so and by the way investors were were nervous, too
I think I think everybody did get that wrong, right and I'm not sure that the game's not done Goldman still sees core CPI
Rising further
Right
Let's see. We've had a string of better or matching inflation
Expectation numbers. So core CPI is at the highest since February. It's hard to see that as the expectation was 0.3%
It's the highest. It's a six-month high on on core CPI. I'm not sure that is something that is to be celebrated
Maybe it's bottom
But no it is because it was a lot better than people thought and a lot of it in this report came from services and not
From goods, which was the big fear over tariffs
