The best part of any dual sport motorcycle riding adventure is the amazing views you can find. This dual sport trail riding journey to the top of Oregon's Cache Mountain featured mile-high views of the Oregon Cascades, including Mt. Jefferson, the Three Sisters, Mt. Washington, Black Butte, Suttle Lake, Big Lake, Blue Lake,Three Fingered Jack, Hoodoo, and other amazingly beautiful landmarks in this amazing mountain range. We put our dual sport bikes to the test: one Suzuki DRZ400S and one Yamaha WR250R, along with our friends on their Honda FourTrax quad and CRF250R. The ride to the top of Cache Mountain is a technical one, with lots of rocky technical sections to put our dual sport motorcycle trail riding skills to the test. It's a great ride with lots of enjoyable sections. Once we reached the top, I had to put my drone up and get some amazing sweeping views of the surrounding Mt. Washington Wilderness. This was just the beginning of our off road motorcycling adventure this day, and in part two (coming soon) we'll explore a hidden series of black sand dunes and some rocky snowmobile trails on the back side of the Santiam OHV Area.
Theoretically, today, you should be able to hear, duck fan.
I'm trying to follow your line exactly.
That's probably not smart.
Technical!
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
You see what I'm talking about?
Oh, s***, Luke crashed.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome back to the dork side.
We just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to pair my new headset.
But, theoretically, today, you should be able to hear, duck fan.
Theoretically, I don't know if they actually want to hear what I have to say,
but I'll bleep you out if you're being obnoxiously duck fanny.
I mean, I can turn down the duck fan a little bit, but modulate the duck fan.
So we are here at Sani MOHV with Luke and Scott and duck fan.
And we're going to go ride to the top of Cache Mountain
because they've never seen it.
And I want to fly my drone up there.
So that is order of business one.
We may end up on trails.
We may explore the Mount Washington Wilderness.
I don't know.
We're here to have fun.
All right.
So duck fan and I are on dual sports.
Scott is on.
Oh, this is wet.
Scott is I've never seen this muddy.
Scott is on a Honda four tracks quad.
And Luke is on a Honda CRF250X, I think.
What's the difference between the X and the R?
I have no idea.
This is wet.
I'm stoked.
This might be the tackiest this has ever been.
So this is a completely new setup.
I'm going to try to use the audio from the Sena and the video from the GoPro.
And edit them together for you later.
So we shall see.
Oh, dude, my tank bag is so full.
My nuts in it are going to be intimately acquainted today.
When I sit, I'm going to sit farther forward
because I made that greatest hits video and it's all me
washing out, leaning way too far back on corners.
Got to dig in that front knobby.
And failing to commit to some technical.
Oh, this is a lot nicer.
I I legitimately thought this was sand.
It is just loose dirt because it has turned into a completely
different surface with a little water on it, which I wondered about
every time I was up here.
I mean, it is night and day.
This is like a whole different place.
Zero dust today.
Like this place is so much better with no dust.
There's Mount Washington, by the way.
Oh, crashing back there.
Front wheel decided it wanted to go a little different direction
than I was trying to go.
I get a lot less cool footage when I'm leading all the time.
So you guys are going to have to lead back.
So this is a ride you guys have seen a couple of times recently.
I just keep coming back up here because it's so beautiful
and I keep riding with people that haven't been here yet.
Scott and Luke have not been up here.
Oh, that whoop caught me unawares looking in my mirror.
You were like, whoops.
I was like, whoop.
It's a lot clearer today.
The sisters look a lot clearer.
Smoke wise, you mean?
Yeah.
Well, it helps that a million acres of Oregon
isn't burning right now.
Yeah.
Actually, we were there the weekend before.
Yep, it was the Lions head fire, but it was still pretty small.
And then it joined up with Beachy Creek and they had a party.
Yeah.
Became a complex.
What is it? Complex?
Complex.
When two fires joined, it became the Saniam complex.
Ah, gotcha.
Beautiful views.
It's no longer a simple fire.
It's complex now.
Yeah, this is always worth it.
I am way out of riding shape.
Like, I'm way more tired already than I should be.
Well, I am not a good riding shape at all.
And I can tell my pants are a little tighter than the last time I wore them.
That's not good.
Yeah, it's almost like going back to work and having a newborn in the house
makes it harder to stay in shape. Weird, right?
All right, Rocky.
Little rocky shelf.
Not too bad if you do the middle or the right.
Like, I'm trying to follow your line exactly.
That's probably not smart.
You went right through those rocks right there.
Yeah. Interesting choice.
Better than going over them.
Technical!
Few technical sections.
This one's pretty technical.
I don't know what gear I'm in right now.
Doesn't come across on the video.
It just looks like a few ways spaced out rocks on video, but
you're definitely riding over them.
It is technical.
Technical and uphill.
Nice.
My favorite!
Actually, technical and flat is pretty fun too.
Yeah, I was technical and my tank bag's nailing me in the balls
because it's so full today.
Hap, hap, hap, hap.
Is it like speed bag?
Hap, hap, hap, hap, hap, hap, hap, hap.
I guess that means I'm hovering over the bike
and letting it move underneath me, right?
Because if I wasn't, it would stay the same distance from my balls.
Oh, kickstand switch.
Almost sent me over the handlebars.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
I got one, I got one coming.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Oh, I got three.
Yeah, I've never seen anyone else up here before.
I can maybe get off a little easier up there.
All right.
Well, that's something to be aware of.
Interesting.
Those guys had like helicopter headsets on.
Once.
Well, I've never seen anyone up here before, so that's interesting.
I got to say, those look like a lot of fun.
Yeah, that's a good size.
They must have come up a different way because I can see their tracks now.
Unless it's drying out really fast.
Could just be drying out really fast.
All right.
Well, disadvantage to this setup is any time
you are on the other side of a mountain like this, my audio is useless.
I'm not even my audio is going to sound good.
Yeah, you're going around a tight corner.
Yeah.
Rough.
It's a little icy.
This sketchy stuff, the answer really should be stand up
and go a little faster, but I don't think I can bring myself
to do that on the edge of a massive cliff.
So I'll probably put it in the left lane and waddle
just because the tire wants to deflect so much.
But it is pretty.
It is gorgeous up here.
OK, well, that just drove me into the middle, so I guess I'm in the middle now.
Oh, it is clear up here today.
This is nice.
You guys, this is the coolest.
You see what I'm talking about, friends?
There is snow up on the mountains.
It's already started snowing at the higher elevations.
Jefferson didn't have any snow on it last time I was here.
Black Butte saw the Lake Jefferson way in the distance.
Is that hood very tip of it?
Maybe right there.
What's the next northern?
It's got to be hood, right?
Yeah, I think so.
Mount Washington feels like I can touch it.
The camera always makes it look so far away, too, like that mountain
looks like it is right there.
The sisters look kind of far away.
It's pretty cool.
You guys want to put the drone up up here?
That's going to be a bad ass.
All right.
I think I'm recording.
This will be interesting.
Is this zipped up because I've done that before?
Yes. OK.
Good idea.
Probably always a good idea to check the tank bags after.
Yeah, well, last time we were here, I rode around with it unzipped
for basically the last half of our day.
I did not want to be in this rut yet. Here I am.
Exactly what I did to fix it.
So did you.
It is way easier just to be right up against this thing.
A little bit of a confidence factor, too, when you're not three inches
from the edge of a cliff. Yeah.
All right.
We still could hit somebody coming up, so I'm going to take it easy.
Good point.
I heard some bikes when we were up there.
You're going to bring your RAV4 up here?
I've seen one on this road.
Got all wheel drive.
Here they are.
Scott's been playing around, I think.
Yeah, he loves this.
My quad is fun, too.
It's just eating up the whoops.
It's it is a little dusty, huh?
All of a sudden, it wasn't on the way up,
and maybe it's because we're in third and fourth instead of first, second.
Well, and there's six wheels in front of me.
Oh, they're turning around.
I don't understand what's happening right now.
The trail is right here, dude.
I feel like that's what I asked.
Yeah, and that's what I said.
I got confused.
They started going, and I was like, oh, whoa.
Oh, Luke crashed.
Can you get it? You need help?
Yeah, he's got need help.
Yeah, those corners will get you, man.
Are we going to hit your bike, dude?
Maybe.
It's my own fault.
Big gear.
Hit the clutch.
Oh, yeah.
Scott did not hear my horn.
I wondered why you were honking.
I was like, what are you trying to honk at Luke so he'll get out of the way?
Yeah, I was like, Luke, get off the ground, dude.
This is so much lighter.
Oh, my God. Let's get dirt bikes.
Well, you're ripping.
So that's fun to watch.
Are you leaning on that tree like a boss?
You and your bike?
Yeah, I know how to do stuff.
I don't know if I got it on camera.
I think he was around the corner.
Just a little over the bank is all.
That reverse is nice, but George, I think he's got it.
There he is.
There's the duck man.
Excellent.
This I did not know was here.
This is new.
Oh, my God, it is massive.
