Artifact of the Week Three: Wedding Cake

Hi everyone, Anna back here again in the vault of Dundas Museum and Archives with our next
Artifact of the Week. Now this artifact is particularly unique and I can't imagine
that all that many museums across Ontario have one of these in their collection.
It's actually the top layer of a wedding cake from 1892. Now this cake was used upon the occasion of
the marriage of Miss Isabel Edmonds to Mr. A.C. Slackhammer in November of 1892 and it was often
accustomed to save the top layer of your wedding cake to be eaten on the baptism of your first
child. Now we have it here in our museum and we're very pleased to do so but it actually has
some really unique preservation requirements and you can see down here that the top layer of the
decoration has had to sit on a specially made mount to support the weight of it. Now we're very
pleased to have this here in the museum and find its story really interesting and we can't wait
until we can share these stories with you again in person.
