Joseph Black | Biography | Joseph Black’s Journey from Medicine to Chemistry
So friends in this video I will discuss about the biography of Joseph Black.
Welcome to my YouTube channel.
So this video is going to be very informative.
So please watch this video till the end.
So let's start this video.
So firstly I will discuss about who was a Joseph Black.
He was a prominent British chemist and physicist
renowned for his significant contributions to the science.
He is best known for the rediscovery of the fixed-air carbon dioxide,
the formulation of the concept of latent heat,
and the discovery of the bicarbonates including bicarbonate of soda.
His circle of friends included some of the most influential thinkers of the time
such as the philosopher David Hume,
the economist Adam Smith, and the geologist James Houghton.
Black's discoveries laid foundational principles for the fields of chemistry and physics,
influencing subsequent scientific research and applications.
His contributions remain a cornerstone in the history of science,
demonstrating the profound impact of the Scottish.
He was born on 16th April in a year of 1728.
He was born in France.
He spent a couple of years following graduation working as a physician.
He examined between the quantity of heat in a body and its intensity or temperature,
realizing that the thermometers can be used to determine the quantity of heat
if the temperature is measured over a period of time while the body is heated or cooled.
Now I will discuss about the early life and the education of Joseph Black.
At the age of 12, he was sent to school.
He later moved to the University of Glasgow to study arts.
However, his father insisted he pursue a professional course of study,
leading Black to choose medicine.
At the University of Glasgow, Black studied under William, an innovative chemistry professor.
Black began conducting chemical experiments in the professor's laboratory,
an unusual opportunity for a young student.
Despite his initial focus on medicine, Black's interest in chemistry grew.
He did not complete his medical degree at Glasgow.
Instead, he transferred to the more prestigious medical school at the university.
To graduate, students were required to prepare a thesis.
His research earned him a medical degree from the university in 1754.
With the rediscovery of carbon dioxide,
the concept of latent heat and the identification of bicarbonates,
which solidified his legacy as a pivotal figure in the fields of chemistry and physics.
Unfortunately, at the age of 71, he died on 6 December in the year of 1799 in Scotland.
So friends, in this video, I discussed about Joseph Black.
I hope you have gained a very good information from this video.
