They were my Aunts they were born 1/15/1911. Inez passed in 2-25-14 and Venice passed 8-9-16.
Our next guests are one of the oldest set of identical twins in the world.
This past Saturday, they blew out a hundred candles on their birthday cake.
To keep the celebration going, we thought we'd invite them here tonight.
Please welcome Inez Harris and Venice Shaw.
Do you know Ben Affleck?
Yes.
Yes, you do know him?
Yes.
Hello there. Nice to meet you. It's a pleasure to meet you.
I know you've been doing this your whole life. Who's who?
I'm Inez.
I'm Venice Shaw.
And you're Venice and Inez. Okay.
Very good. Now, who's the oldest?
I am the oldest. I'm 15 minutes older than she is.
Oh, 15 minutes. Okay.
And I'm the baby of the family.
She's always bragged about that.
Now, we have proof of age. Show your driver's license.
God bless you. Look, I'm still driving. Look at that.
100 years old. Wow.
Show that Matthew Brady baby picture there. Look at this.
Wow.
What a couple of cuties.
Now, did you ever fool your parents?
Did you ever play tricks on them?
Oh, once in a while we fooled them.
Yeah.
Not too often, but we did once in a while.
Like what? Now, what's the swing story? What is that?
On the swing?
Well, she was on the swing, and Mother had always forbidden us to sit on the swing when there was a car in the driveway.
Yeah.
And she saw my mother coming out, so she scooted off the swing, and I wasn't aware of it.
And I sat on the swing, so I got a spanking.
When I saw my mother with a switch, I went running, and my sister came out of the house and sat on the swing,
and my mother grabbed her, and she got the spanking.
Now, you girls also, you sang in the Rose Parade in 1918?
Yes.
Okay.
Now, do you remember the song you sang in the Rose Parade?
What was the song?
We were on Pasadena City School.
The name of the song, Denise.
The song.
Can you sing the song now?
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
All the children go to heaven.
When they get there, they will say,
Lamanda Park School has led the way.
Yes!
Now, Denise, tell me about your first car.
I bought my first car in 1929.
1931.
It was a 1929 Ford Coupe with a rumble seat.
Look at the picture.
This is why I invited you on here.
I want that car.
I want to get that car.
Because my car had a rumble seat, my brother and I used to double date,
and his was a, he didn't only have a two-seated car,
and my boyfriend only had a two-seated.
They used to use my car because of having the rumble seat.
The rumble seat.
How much did you pay for that car?
How much did it cost?
I paid $450, and that was in 1931.
Okay.
So how much were you making an hour?
Thirty-three cents an hour.
And that was a government request.
That was, they had to pay that.
Okay.
They had to pay.
Now, who married first?
I was married about a year and a half to two years before she was.
And then you guys had a double wedding.
Yes.
My brother and I had a double wedding on my twin sister's second wedding anniversary.
Okay.
All right.
Very good.
All right.
Now, I read in the L.A. Times you guys like game shows.
Is that true?
Do you like game shows?
Oh, yes.
What game shows do you like?
Well, I like Wheel of Fortune.
Wheel of Fortune.
Okay.
That's one of my mom's favorites.
Got to go with that one.
And, like, what TV, any TV, like comedians.
Do you like comedians?
Oh, yes.
Yes.
You're one of my special ones.
I've always enjoyed your show.
Well, thank you.
I read in the article that you were fans of Carol Burnett.
Is that correct?
Yes.
Did she call you when she saw the article?
She called the both of us.
She called a couple times.
She did.
She called and she was so excited.
Yeah.
She acted like we were the special people.
And we told her how special she was.
Did you meet her?
No.
Oh.
Would you like to?
Sure.
Let's bring her out.
Carol Burnett.
I can't tell you what a thrill this is for me.
Now, Carol, when did you first hear about the girl?
A little over a week ago, I read an article by Bob Poole,
who's a writer for the LA Times.
And I was reading the article.
I was fascinated by it.
My gosh.
I mean, the odds of twins living to be 100 years old,
I think they said was 1 in 700 million or something like that.
And I thought, oh, wow.
Then I got farther down into the article and said their favorite
show was Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
And they said I was their favorite entertainer.
I burst into tears.
I was just so.
And so we were able to get your telephone numbers and I called.
And did you get the pictures I sent yet?
I didn't.
Yes, we got the pictures.
I was so thrilled.
Yeah.
Oh, you will.
I know you will.
I sent them myself.
Were you surprised?
Yes, I sure was.
Well, that's the whole point.
Thank you very much.
Carol, thank you so much.
Carol drove all the way to Temporus right after this.
