We welcome you from Wrigleyville
the north side of Chicago.
We've got a double header today
the Brewers and the Cubs and the
pitching matchup is a good one
to get us started.
Matthew Boyd on the mound.
What a year he's put together.
He's fourth in the NL seven in
the majors in E.R.A.
He's nine and oh with a one
seven five E.R.A.
So Matthew Boyd to face Sal
Freilich to the right side
Castro takes it in one up and
one down.
Durbin up there Hacken.
Drive left field half his back
there makes the catch to up and
to down is William Contreras.
Now get on the ground to shorts
once it takes in the Rose the
first and Boyd able to get him
one two three no score.
Chad Patrick gets to work
against this Cubs offense.
Back on June the 17th the Cubs
beat him as he worked five
innings one up and one down in
the fly ball to center.
Ian did not play in the series
opener.
There's a swing and a drive
right center field on the run
Lockridge and Freilich.
That ball is going to be off the
fence.
Pat just missed a home run and
he pulls in at second with a
standing double landed in the
Vines maybe four or five feet
below the basket in deep right
center field.
The Cubs have a scoring chance.
Cubs have a man at second with
one away.
Here's a Suzuki now say a first
pitch swinging it fouls it back.
Nice grab sir.
Well done to the dirt kicks away
from Contreras over to third
goes happen that changes the
complexion of this at bat
entirely outside and that's ball
for so say Suzuki will take his
base and they're at the corners
for Pete Crow Armstrong as a
ground ball third got a chance
at the plate.
Durbin comes home the tag in
time contact play was on half is
just thrown out for the second
out of the inning.
And now it's Willie Castro now
just trying to drive in the
game's first run Gordon's first
backing up one Castro Bostick
gets away and everybody's safe.
So they're loaded up.
Patrick has made a lot of
pitches in this inning.
Owen Casey had his first big
league base hit yesterday.
Let's see if he can get his
first big league RBI.
Cubs will try and take the lead
here.
Suzuki is in P.C.A. on his
heels Castro the third Casey
it's a two run single and Owen
has given the Cubs the lead.
A sweet redemption this time
with the bases juiced he
delivers that's a big swing in
the back to draw first blood
here and he drops the head on
this pitch and smokes it into
right field.
First time in nine games as
Cubs score in the first and it's
a crooked number.
The Cubs have the lead Christian
Yelich will lead things off
against Matthew Boyd.
The one to pitch swing and a
miss struck him out.
Yelich is gone Andrew Vaughn one
for four three and Owen Vaughn
in the pitch his way outside for
ball for the Brewers had their
first base runner.
So Collins gets his first start
since becoming a new dad.
That's a ball.
Collins draws the wall.
He's got a terrific eye back to
back walks and suddenly the
Brewers in business here with
one away and here comes Bryce
Turing a little dribbler to
first up with it is Bush steps
on the bag and the runners
advance two down.
Here is Brandon Lockridge with
minutes second and third.
So this is a big at bat.
Now Boyd at forty one pitches
Boyd pitch number 10 Lockridge
takes a ball.
What an at bat Brandon Lockridge
draws the third walk in the
Brewers all on the top rail
fully engaged here early.
And now it's Joey Ortiz with the
bases loaded in two outs.
Popped up.
And Boyd gets out of it.
The Brewers walk away empty
handed.
So it's the second time Suzuki
has walked in and there's a one
out base runner for the Cubs
here.
So here's Pete Crow Armstrong.
Just like that Cubs got a little
rally opportunity second and
third just one out.
Here's Castro now second and
third one out.
Swing and a high fly ball.
Castro five nothing Cubs and
Willie's fired up.
That's been a tough go for
Willie.
Putting on that Cubs uniform that
has to feel awfully good.
He's fired up his first as a
Cubs and the Cubs have a five to
nothing lead here in the third
inning.
Back to thirty two pitches to get
through the second inning but
just ten three up three down in
the third.
And here's Yelich and Yelich
sends it high and deep to right.
This one is way back there off
the scoreboard.
Christian Yelich with a tape
measure shot down the right
field line and right away the
Brewers get one of them back.
You talk about chipping away.
That's one way to do it.
And it is five to one in the top
of the fifth.
Cubs leaving the Brewers five to
one.
Lockridge shoots one into right
center field that ball's hit
well.
It is off the wall and the
speedy Lockridge into second
base with a double.
Brewers are getting their licks
in against Matthew Boyd.
Good start to the fifth Ortiz
fly ball to right.
It's going to be deep enough to
advance Lockridge and Ortiz with
a positive at bat.
Try and cash in this run from
third base.
They make it a three run ball
game and Sal Freelich hits and
Freelich rifles one into the
gap right center for Armstrong
cuts it off.
It's going to hold Freelich to a
single but it's an RBI single at
that.
And the Brewers are within three.
Here they come five to two Cubs
Andrew Vaughn leads off for
Milwaukee against the Cubs
starter Matthew Boyd and he
sends out one deep in the left
center and Andrew Vaughn into
the Ivy it goes he gets buried
in the Ivy.
That'll be an automatic double
leadoff double in the sixth for
Andrew Vaughn Isaac Collins
field to swing and a miss third
strikeout for Boyd here this
afternoon.
It's a one down and it's Bryce
Turang Turang up the middle and
a base hit.
Vaughn's going to wind it up and
he will score Bryce Turang an
RBI single three unanswered runs
for the Brew crew.
It is five to three now and do
it.
Boyd here comes Greg the
afternoon is over for Matthew
Boyd and big Brad Keller will
come in.
Brad Keller comes out of the
bullpen for the 52nd time two
point four eight E.R.A. for the
big heart throwing righty.
Here's Blake Perkins.
Swing and a miss struck him out
and Perkins is gone.
Two outs man at first.
Ball for it's the last thing he
wanted to do.
Turang in the scoring position
Ortiz draws the walk and now
it's Freilich.
He had an RBI single back in the
fifth inning.
The Brewers need a big two out
hit from Sal Freilich.
Keller deals Freilich turns on
and a base hit in the right.
On his way throw comes to
Turang scores the run and it's
second and third for the
Brewers.
They are within a run.
Brewers had one hit through the
first four innings.
They've got six hits in the last
two innings.
Here is Durbin now five four
comes.
Gets Durbin and a Cubs still
lead it by a run Castro is out
number one Casey a big knock
here today is to run single in
the first made it to nothing.
One left center field it's back
Casey first major league homer
out to left center field and the
Cubs lead it six four mighty
Casey has delivered man what a
smooth swing that was that has
to feel great.
Matt Shaw will lead off the Cubs
seventh inning first ball
swinging Matt Shaw fly ball deep
left center and it is going to
be caught.
Blake Perkins caught it crashing
up against the wall and his
teammate Collins Perkins still
comes out of the Ivy with it.
That is a great catch.
Top nine Cubs six Brewers for
Daniel Palencia has saved 16 of
the 18 opportunities.
Anthony Sigler will lead off.
One away and top of the order in
South Freeland.
Here's a three one.
And ball four and that'll bring
the tying run to the plate.
Urban old for four Durbin in the
right field a base hit.
Sound Freeland around second
will stop there.
How about the two strike
hitting Caleb Durbin a single to
right two minute board with one
out and now the tying run is at
first the go ahead run coming to
the plate.
Guess who's coming up.
William Contreras who's been in
this spot on this road trip to
one out Cubs by two.
And Ford's third shot up with it
the second one of the first
Cubs win.
Well that was much needed and
hard fought Cubs come away with
a nice W here and gave one of
this doubleheader.
