Welcome to Math with Mr. J.
In this video, I'm going to cover the
prime factorization of 200. So, we are
breaking 200 down into its prime
factors. The prime numbers that multiply
to equal 200. So, looking at 200, we
need to start breaking this down by
thinking of two factors. Two numbers
that multiply to give us 200. Well, four
and 50 are factors of 200. 4 * 50 equals
200. So, let's break 200 down into four
and 50. Now, keep in mind there are
other factors we could have started with
here. For example, 2 and 100. And there
are other options as well. These will
all work. Depending on the number, there
can be multiple different factors that
we can use. So there can be multiple
ways we can do these but in the end we
will get to the same prime numbers and
that's what's important. Now let's
continue to break this down. So we have
four and 50. Both four and 50 are
composite numbers. So we can break both
of these down. Let's start with four. So
we need to think of factors. Well we
know 2 * 2 is four. 2 is a factor of
four. So let's break four down
into two
and two. Now two is a prime number. So
we are done here and here. We can't
break those down any further. So let's
circle those twos to show that we have
prime numbers. Now moving over to 50, we
need to think of factors. 2 and 25 are
factors of 50. So let's break this down
into two
and 25. Two is prime. So we are done
here. But we can break 25 down. We know
that 5 * 5 is 25. 5 is a factor of 25.
So let's break 25 down
into five
and five. Now five is a prime number. So
we are done here. and here. And that's
it. That's the prime factorization of
200. We don't have anything else that we
can break down any further. We have all
prime numbers. So let's write this out
as 200 equals. And then we can write out
our prime factors in order from least to
greatest. And we are multiplying them.
So we'll start with the three twos. 2 *
2 * 2 and then we have two fives. So * 5
* 5. If we have the correct prime
numbers, they will multiply to equal our
original number. So let's check here. 2
* 2 is 4 * 2 is 8 * 5 is 40 * 5 is 200.
So we are correct here. So there you
have it. There's the prime factorization
of 200. I hope that helped. Thanks so
much for watching.
Until next time, peace.
