FMA supersonic rev overhaul no5
Hello everybody, just squeeze in there, well it's been a while, we've got number 5 come
in along the dial, nice little very new looking supersonic graph. I haven't done anything to it
yet apart from have a quick look at it. And on first inspection, first thing we notice is the
string is too short as usual and I think we can get in here and see it. We've got split hair which
goes all the way through to here and the bottom one has one across there and then when you turn
it over, this bottom one has one right across there. It's hard to see it and then that's also
got another one there and another one there and they all come through the back here. It's hard
to see it with this stuff stuck on here but they're certainly there. And then we can see another one
here and there's another one right back here. Bless them. You can see the serving has already
started spreading apart which is why I put a double one on there when I build mine. And also
the cables are starting to spread fairly. I did ask how many times he'd fired it and he said
no more than 50. So that's about average for these to start splitting and stuff.
I haven't done anything to it yet apart from have a quick look. I have looked in and I can see
without even taking it apart that that's quite sharp on the back of the string hook on both
sides on the inner. And I found with my strings the single serving will go in there nice and
easy but then where it gets to double the serves are very tight in there. So that much will be
getting filed out but I will cover that on another bit after I get it apart. So having that black
cock and hook there it's got the four rollers in it rather than the bigger metal ones that have a
roller at the back and a brass shim thing in the front. So don't need to fit any rollers.
What I will do now is I'm not going to do too much on this for you. You're going to be getting these
new super super heavy-duty cables and I haven't managed to put anywhere in mine at all yet and
I've lost count how many shelves I've fired. So I've been busy making you parts of the new string
cables that will be going in. Got your press here, brand new. Haven't tried it yet but I will in a
minute. Got your limbs all ready to cut down. Your brass to go in your cam hoses. Got your front roller
made. Your rear brace with the roller. And all the fins. And made a good start on your bolts.
Got a few here done. These are averaging 227 grains. Got a nice half-degree fletch.
I've been through them with my little test and methods that I do and I've got a few more here
which have got the inserts and the nocks glued in. You might see that these ones are actually
backwards. Whereas those two are the right way. There'd be a little reason for that. Now these
nocks are never glued in but I was quite surprised with these ones that the points were barely even
glued in either. That point in the nock is out of this one. All I do to test them is get a nock,
put that in the bottom, put that in the drill, just give it one click and the nock will stop
the chuck crushing the shaft. And then it's just a case of turn it. And the end where the point was
is not straight. So that wouldn't have been a very accurate bolt. So now we put the nock in that end.
One click and now it turns nice and straight. So that is the end that we want
to have our pointer at. Which leads me to these beauties. So that is going to become our front.
And that will be our back. So now the right end is back to front.
So that if I've kept the original front then it goes the way it normally does.
So yeah those ones are all done and these ones are in the process. I've just got to strip the
fletchings off and file the half moon in and then fletch them up like these. So yeah that is
the simplest way to test which end you want your point at. And it makes a huge difference.
Right so there's just one thing I want to do now. Well I'll do two things. I will
see. One thing I'm not going to do is put one of these through.
Even though it's in the right place if anything does blow up. I've had some very bad experiences
with these. Shooting the nocks down in there and splitting the end of the shaft open and that then
cuts the string and bang. So me personally I would never shoot one of those.
So what I'm going to do is get a speed of one of my 227.
Feet per second.
I haven't even actually cocked this bow.
I do remember that with these limbs they always feel very
stiff. It would help if I
fired and reset the trigger on.
Right so one of my
new bolts. Reworked, overhauled, whatever you want to call it.
First time I've ever fired this.
287.9. Not bad at all. We'll see what it does with the new limbs after I've finished that.
Right.
I'm just gonna do the usual and just see how much play is in these cams and stuff.
Oh listen to those limbs creak.
I forgot how those original ones do that. Come on press.
So
you can see why I really don't recommend those aluminium presses.
There's a lot of force on these limbs. There's even more when they get my new ones in.
All right while I've just done that let's see how long this string is.
Not very but look at that.
There we go.
Yeah that's about average.
There's a short one. 510.
I suppose if I straighten that out a bit.
Yeah 515. That's about average. So yeah too short.
I'm making mine a very consistent 525 now. Which I'm finding is just right.
Right so back to this. How much play have we got?
Oh yeah I've removed these now. As I said on my last video.
Them limbs really did not need those clamping them.
And it doesn't do them a lot of good. Because these are done up tight.
So yeah my advice. Remove them and then just pop your bolt back in.
Hold that in place and get rid of that part.
Really don't need to be there. Yeah we've got quite a lot of play as usual.
This side's even worse. Clunkier out.
Let's just see what the back is like.
Oh dear. Yeah.
Oh there's not even a c-clip on the bottom of that one.
Well that's not good. Good job I got some.
We've got one this side.
God damn me.
Well that's not good. I wonder if I forgot in the factory.
Or whether it just fell off. Quite as much play on that side.
That always tickles me. How I can just. Even with my dodgy wrist.
Flex that riser. You certainly can't once you get that brace across it.
Right. Anyway. Like I said. Just going to do a quick one on this one.
I'll get it stripped down now and then I'll go through the trigger and everything and
we'll see you're in part two. Take care everybody.
