In this video, you’ll get a full look at a real swim lesson with a 3-year-old — showing exactly how we keep the class fun, structured, and full of progress-driven swim drills. This 30-minute session is packed with exercises that help toddlers build confidence, water safety, and swim skills at their own pace. In this lesson, you’ll see: • Back floating practice to improve balance and comfort on the water • Jumping into the pool safely and returning to the wall • Diving for toys underwater to boost breath control and confidence • Kicking drills and games to develop strong propulsion and stamina • Play-based challenges that keep learning fun and exciting This video shows how a complete toddler swim lesson can combine technique, safety, and playfulness — helping kids not just learn to swim, but enjoy every step of the process. Whether you’re a parent wondering what a 3-year-old swim lesson looks like or a coach searching for new toddler drills, this is a perfect example of how to teach with purpose, patience, and creativity.
All right. So, in this video, you guys
are going to see me working with that
Dax. That Dax is four years old, and he
was so nervous when he started learning
how to swim. He's about five or six
lessons in. I I don't remember when he
started, but now he's just so much more
confident. You can see him swimming out
to me. You're going to see him floating
on his own. And you're going to see all
these drills that I do to build
children's confidence up in a group
lesson setting. So, here at Superhero
Swim Lake Worth, we do two children in a
class. So it's and we only see the kids
typically once maybe twice a week. It
just depends up what the parents are
pointed to. This child acts he only
comes once a week. So it's really
important. Confidence is the forefront
of his learning process. We need to make
sure that he wants to come here so that
way he wants to learn new skills and
enjoys the process. So again, you're
going to see the breakdown of lessing
with Bet Dax and me building his
confidence up going underneath the water
to dive for toys, swimming on his own,
floating on its back, and even jumping
in the pool at anywhere. If you're a
coach like me and you want to learn more
skills from other instructors from
around the world, we have a completely
free group, Swim Coach uh called the
Swim Coach Community. You can check it
out in the link below. And if you're a
parent, we have courses for you, too, so
you can learn to teach your own
children. Hey, let's do that one more
time. Hope you guys enjoyed the video.
See you. You look right there for a
second. Say how old are you?
>> You're three. Three. Who's your favorite
superhero?
>> Oh, my dad, right?
>> All right. That's awesome. Big high
five. Boom. Dex was pretty nervous in
the beginning. Now he's having a lot of
fun. We got a lot of confidence. You're
such a confident young man now. Want to
see that?
>> Oh, check out fight. I'm fighting fast
swimming pot. So what you're going to do
is we're going to do the same thing
where we jumped highers. This time
remember we're going to swim a little
bit this time. Okay. So going to build
up Dax's confidence. Remember we started
right here before. So we just kept back
and backing up and now Dax is swimming
to me right to me. I see my hands to my
side. Dax can grab my shoulders. Very
good buddy. Very good. That's perfect.
Give me high bro.
>> Very good. I'm going to go get yellow.
>> Don't touch you. So, he's still he's
still a little nervous swimming to the
wall. It's tight. Way to go.
Nice and easy. Got those shins.
>> Good job. So, he jumps. He lies. That's
good. That's okay for now. Then we're
going to get on straight. So, walk your
bike.
>> Listen.
>> All the way back to the stairs. Okay.
You ready?
>> Face down. Okay. I'm right there.
>> So, so how it backwards? That's cuz he's
hold his feet down his hand.
>> That was Come here. We're gonna do We're
going to try swimming back to the stairs
one more time. So, we drop. So, listen.
Here's what you want to do, Dad. It's
very important when you're sweating to
the stairs and allow the
hang. Don't put your feet down until you
got the statue. Okay.
Nothing. I actually take his feet.
>> It's okay.
>> Count until I see him on the stat. Then
I release his right. That's great job.
Give me a high five.
Oh jeez.
[Music]
Shine.
>> Come down a step. Come down a step.
>> Okay. Wait. Come down. You got one more
to go. Get it. You got one more to go
again. Come down a step. Right there.
>> Okay. What color is the last one?
>> Red.
>> Red. That's right. Okay. So, here's what
we're going to do, Dax. I want you to
swim on out here to me. You got it.
Wait.
Go ahead. Got it. There you go.
>> Okay. It's perfect.
[Music]
Reach and pull. Reach and pull.
Swim all the way to the wall.
But we're going to swim right there.
Okay.
which was
drift
back, daddy. And then
>> ready to coach him.
[Music]
>> Then the feet go down. carry down. Great
job putting hands first. So kids are
always going to have more confidence
swimming to the stairs because the
stairs aren't going to back up, right?
They're going to stay there from the
side. And really it's about building
your kids confidence. So from day one,
we've just been building confidence for
decks and now we're swimming short
distances. He's a perfect null, but not
looking for that. Want to look after a
real happy kid that's willing to do
something. So when we're scattered on
the stairs, we didn't even go
underwater. Remember that, Dex?
Remember, you would just reach for the
stairs, grab them, reach your hands in
front, grab those steps. Look, he's
putting his face under so well here. But
we just leaned him forward. He didn't
even go under the water. Just put those
hands down. That way he was ready. He
put his own face in the lucky. Give me a
high five, Dax. Very good.
He's got to
>> You're going to be able to handle this.
No problem, guys. We're secret.
Okay, now we're doing our diving or
dairy diver mission here. So, Dax, we're
going to start off on the third step
right here. So, all you I want to see
you put your hand right there on the
step and you're going to go underwater
and grab the toy. Good. Very good. It's
just a sickle breath. So, so easy. Dax,
you're going to put that right up here
on the steering.
>> What is this?
>> That's a starfish. That one is pretty
cool. That one is pretty
>> mine.
>> Dax, I'm actually going to put the shark
out there and I want you to get the fish
nest. Okay. This is an important step.
>> Well, the shark is out there. I had to
put it out there. This is too big.
That's too easy, right? Um, so we want
them to reach and balance and then
understand,
>> right? Always teach them to find
balance. Then I'm fall.
That is why we teach them to find
balance right there. Face down. And now
I'm going to make sure I do it again cuz
he fell back towards me. Good job. We're
going to take that. You're going to do
it one more time, guys. One more time.
I'm going to put it right there. Okay.
Now listen. Hey, look at me. I'll fall
backwards. Touch me out over here.
>> That's where I went. So simple
the ankle. Put it over there.
>> Nice.
Easy. Easy. Okay. Now they're getting a
little deeper. Next. Now we're on the
force. Okay. So, wait.
>> Where are you going to grab for balance?
Well, that one's a little high yet.
You're going to have to get Yeah, there
you go. That high.
That's Alex.
>> So, because he has good breath control,
I will let salad in. Good job. Good. Can
you put that up there? Great job, sir.
>> You heard him and stick with him, right?
So, hey, did you get water in your nose?
That's all right. Blow it out. Yeah.
>> So, if they get water in your mouth,
nose, or whatever, hold on. She didn't
say go yet. She didn't say go yet. Yeah.
Talk to her about it. Talk to her
because it I'm not that afraid. I still
want to know exactly what happened. So
then we could teach.
>> Yeah, right. You got three so far. We
got 42 a little bit there. I bet he's
having a hard time getting down.
>> It's okay.
>> Like that.
>> How'd you get?
>> You need to start over, buddy. Just come
up for air and then reset. Sleep one.
>> All right, then. Take a sec. Now, on
that first one, you were coughing. Did
you get it in your mouth or your nose?
>> About that time.
>> Why don't you do a big cough? Go like
this. Go.
>> There you go. That was good. Right.
>> Um I
>> So if it ever goes
>> I'm flying to the top.
>> Yeah, you're flowing to the top. But
here here's how we fix that. Here's how
we fix that. Just sometimes you can jump
a little bit and use your body's
momentum to get down. You do a little
jump that's not supposed.
I want you to jump up into the air. Jump
up. Jump. Really? Very cool. Good job.
Put it out. Great job.
>> Good job.
>> I listen. You got two more.
>> You got shark right there. Okay. You go
fast.
>> All right.
>> No,
>> this one's first. But because this one's
pretty close, we're going to go right
down to the toy. And then you're gonna
come up and grab those leg and put it to
go with one of the back chests. Hands in
front of the floor. I like to put my
hands on top of each
dive.
Bend your knees. Deep breath. Good.
Right down.
The legs off the wall. There we go.
>> Can you crawl back?
>> It's okay. Listen to coach here. Come
back to the stairs. That's it. Right.
Come back to the stairs and you can see
them all.
>> Now you can see them all. Now count
them. If you want to keep count
[Music]
to go get the last one
and five.
Very good. Now there's only one link.
That's a big shark. Okay.
>> So, we've built up the opulence. We've
seen what he can do. He's comfortable
getting each round. So, I only know he's
going to real swim out. You need to swim
to be
>> watching. Take
it off.
>> Okay. I go back
>> again.
>> Okay. Now, listen. Can we turn around
under the water? That's okay. Listen.
Look at You got a band-aid.
>> What happened?
He's the band-aid fell off. Now, how'd
you get a band-aid? You got me.
>> Hey, that's not sure. You can tell me
all about it. You get that shirt, right?
I want you to put your hands in front
and do this. I want you to swindle on
your feet. Deep breath. I'm right to my
shoulder. You got
>> There we go. Good. We got to
see that shark in the neck.
Get the shark right next to the wall
weapons
chest
roll
yourself up.
>> Ready?
>> Okay. Sharks are my favorite toys. You
can get smaller ones, too. Big one's fun
cuz it'll glide back
and all you got to do is glide back with
the shark. Okay.
Pay attention to slide over there. for
you.
>> Not bad at all, dude. Not bad at all.
>> That's what we call the daring dive
pressure. Again, you blend up pockets up
the stairs, work to the bottom of the
pool, then you work out a little deeper.
As he gets older, make him switch with
his eyes out there.
We're going to do it back for Mr. Dax
here. Okay, he's pretty relaxed on his
back. Lay back. Relax. We're going to
bring that belly up. Make sure that
belly is up. Now, we're going to look
for really good for Nick and me. Can you
open your eyes? Very good. Now, look at
his back a little too far. He doesn't
open. So, Dax is very muscular. Yeah,
good for super muscular which means it's
going to be a little harder for sim lay
back.
>> Good job. Good. You said it's all we're
going to do just like we do with the
babies for posture. Over
>> bicycle.
Come swim to me. I'm right here.
>> Remember how much I used to work with
you?
>> Okay, you look up. We'll fix that one.
>> Okay.
>> The idea of that was not to actually do
the roll. Oh Look up at me. You
look up. Put your arms down. No, look up
here. Good. One, two. Good.
>> Very fast.
>> Again, it's about repetition and
consistency. I get great jump. Give me a
high five.
>> No. Give me a high five. A high five.
No. Punch. High five.
>> Miss him.
>> Come on. Do it right. Gary.
>> Okay. H. Let me see. Let me see.
>> Okay. Okay, you got two more to do. Are
you ready? Okay, we're going to swim
again to me. So again, still staying
calm or still staying focused on the
swimming and then adding the floating,
right? Even though floating is the goal,
we're always here. Same time, you got
you scoop your arms. Scoop your arms.
Oh my god. Okay, what happened? You
forgot to scoop and move your arms with
you. Drink some. Okay, we got something
now. That's
not going to exactly.
>> So if they get it in their mouth or
their nose got just like a sec, but you
always want to move with your arms. You
don't do
>> you throw up or you good?
>> All right.
outside
here.
I added a little frag to the back of his
hand.
Now we're jump
face down. Kick kick kick kick away.
It's too
good. I'd rather have that than the
other.
>> Yeah.
>> All right, Dex, you got one more. She's
got to do one more float. Dex, we can do
the shark right afterwards. We're gonna
do one more float and a good Okay. Can
you come down a step for me right here,
sir?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Ready? Last one. We're going to do
it this time. Can you swim out to me? I
want to see your legs going out.
>> Yeah. Not like that, but we want you to
do it. Yes. Step. We're going to do
>> Yeah. This is the coach, buddy. He knows
what he's talking about.
>> I am very
legit.
>> Can you grab
my toes around the edge?
>> Yeah. So, no. Sometimes you got to do a
little scary thing so we can learn how
to do it. So you're not scared. Go. Bend
your knees. Your knees. Bend your knees.
Squat down. You know how to squat.
>> Daddy teach you squatting.
>> Good little stick. Stay down. Stay down
in your squat. Put your hands in front.
>> Okay. Now jump to me.
>> Go towards him.
>> Come on.
>> There. Scoop. Scoop. There it is.
There.
>> Oh, that was huge.
>> You did way better.
>> How much further you went, buddy?
>> Look up at the spine. Good line is back.
Head up. Look up here, buddy. Relax.
Good
belly down. Relax.
Don't sit up. Just got
some help.
>> All right. So let's do you want a good
>> Yeah. S was down. I'm not going to push.
I don't see Dax every day. If I saw him
every day, I might push it.
>> It's okay. Confidence. So with
everything and that's what's going to
create us.
>> Yes. Yours
like
>> basically.
>> Yeah. So we got a float in the middle
there even though we didn't draw a swim.
That's
>> a little bit under. Good job.
>> Not every single tide's going to be
perfect. We just work on consistency. Be
patient. Build up.
>> Sorry. We're going to do our jumpins.
Okay. We call this the cannonballer
mission. So, Dax is going to start off
on his butt. He's going to start off on
his butt. We're going to jump in and
we're going to swim back to the bell. I
always start off with the on the butt.
You know, the really strong swimmers.
>> Their feet. Yeah.
All right. You can always come into the
water
in like this. I know D.
>> We're going to jump in. You're going to
swim and we're going to grab the wall.
>> I know. I know.
>> Are you ready?
>> Oh, are you deep breath?
He's pushing himself away.
>> Good. So again, the razor line go
back
on.
>> So watch this. Here's what you're going
to do. Look at me.
I give you water right there.
>> Now I'm going to do an
>> So as you just saw
and if I wasn't here to guide it back
to make it back
on this side.
>> See how much closer he is.
Good job. Very good. We stick our hand
right on the back of his head right
there. A little bit pressure
stand up now.
>> Look at me.
>> Satan.
Good job.
>> Happy.
Very good.
>> Don't lose your eyes.
>> That's too
big.
>> You are being like the big kid. That's
amazing.
>> He was a little nervous in Jack. We
grabbed his I had him look at me in the
eye. I shouldn't
>> do it one more time, Dax. It's the last
one, buddy. I just want to
>> play.
>> Then you can play on the stairs if dad
says it's okay. Mike, come right here in
the
dark. Ready.
Ready, set, go.
>> Under the water.
>> He's underwater. I have his forearm on
sting
using his arms and his head, not his
ears to guide it back.
We do not
[Music]
sit down and try.
We're going to see.
[Music]
Let me try.
You good?
>> So, listen. He's going to have to let
him try those things. We see you all
next.
Okay.
It's about practicing as much as we can
with the kids. I only see Denn once a
week and he's in a group lesson,
semi-private lesson. Two kids in the
class. Very important. We're just build
confidence, taking his pace. It's not
about forcing him to swim as fast as
possible. So, I'm making it really fun
and making him want to be here so that
way it's easy to teach him every time he
comes. More confidence he has that he's
using.
