‘Little Women’ star Florence Pugh talks about her reaction when she found out about her first Oscar nomination.
The 24-year-old, who plays Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s film, has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Pugh faces some tough competition from the likes of Scarlett Johansson for ‘Jojo Rabbit’, Laura Dern for ‘Marriage Story’, Kathy Bates for ‘Richard Jewell’ and Margot Robbie for ‘Bombshell’.
I didn't want to wake up and watch because to me that just would give me such anxiety,
so I said that I was going to sleep and Cara said, well if you do that, can you please
keep your phone on loud just in case? And then at 5.30 this morning, my phone sang so
loudly and obviously jumped out of bed and screamed very groggily. But yeah, bizarre,
amazing. I was sleeping and then I was an Oscar nominee. It was crazy.
I might go for a walk and just scream into the hills because it hasn't quite settled
in yet and I don't know if it will until I do a bit of ahhh! So I'm going to go do that
and then I'm going to have some truffle pasta later. I'm so excited. I'm going to have some
sticky, starchy pasta and then a nice bottle of red and just soak it all up.
I think Greta is incredible and Saoirse put it so beautifully around the Golden Globes
buzz, which is that this film is her. None of this could have been done without her,
so we share all nominations with her and who she is as an artist. But I think, you know,
we didn't lose out. We got a lot. We mopped up a few, so we're still very proud. It's
still a great achievement and it's just great that the film is being appreciated and watched.
It's cool. It only came out like a month ago.
