Click to subscribe to our channel, we're busy posting new videos all the time, lots of really
interesting and I hope very good plants for you to be able to grow in your garden. And here on the
nurseries where we grow over 2,000 varieties, we've selected the ones that we know perform very
well in our region, that's the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Now with butterfly bushes
there's lots of really good new ones coming on the market, ones that you could certainly try
and ones that I think you'll enjoy growing. But I don't want you to miss some of the old tried
and true varieties too, ones that have very definitely stood the test of time. Take for
example this gorgeous variety here that's called Buddleja Royal Red. Here's an American variety
that was introduced way back in 1942. So now almost 80 years later, it's still going strong
and still just as beautiful and a really good performer as it was when it was first introduced.
Raised by Carl Leuckel and introduced by the Good & Reese Company of Springfield, Ohio, this is an
exceptional variety that will get to about 6 to 8 foot high by about 4 to 5 foot wide,
and during the early part of mid-summer you can look forward to it producing lots of these
gorgeous magenta-purple flowers that are going to set your garden alive with lots of color,
a delightful fragrance, and of course will bring in lots of butterflies and pollinating insects
all over the neighborhood will be flocking in to enjoy your beautiful Buddleja Royal Red.
It's hardy to zone 5, and really very easy to grow. The important thing is to plant it in a
sunny location, in a well-drained site. It's not fussy about soil types, they grow very well
on most soil types. The one thing that is important, and I need to stress it,
and that is that Buddlejas really need good drainage. They just will not do on a damp site.
Give them good drainage and you'll find that they'll grow and flower beautifully, and put on
a tremendous profusion of beautiful flowers that will last all the way through the summer
until the autumn time. Also producing these lovely flowers on nice big strong stems,
it makes a nice item for cutting and bringing in to put into floral arrangements too.
Really super variety, and one that we thoroughly recommend. This is Buddleja Davidi Royal Red.
