The exciting conclusion to our dual sport adventure around Mary's Peak includes a run in with a pair of deer, a herd of hunters in the woods, a discussion of the finer points of Talladega Nights, rain, gravel, dual sports in the woods, and a trip to Big Elk Campground near Harlan, Oregon. There really is nothing these dual sport bikes can't do. My CRF250L and Ducfan's WR250R have taken us from trail, to highway, to gravel, to mud, and back again time and time again.
Previously on Lost.
And we are headed out for a mixed road surface adventure.
Shit up here.
Whoa. Well, this looks more fun than that.
All of ten, over ten miles of gravel left.
Yep.
And now, the conclusion.
All of ten, over ten miles of gravel left.
Yep.
Which seemed like it took way longer than that last time.
I don't know.
Oh, this ******* video is just going to be me going...
What it sounds like when I ******* go over bumps.
Oh, why am I in the red? The center is much better.
Uh, but we have to top walk, because like...
Oh, that gate would be rough to get around.
No, it wouldn't. You just go right up there.
Doable.
Huh.
I just realized that I'm much more comfortable
at a little more speed with the visor open.
Ooh, I just slipped right there.
Ow.
But, uh, now I've got to worry about you throwing ******* rocks at me.
Not on purpose, though.
Oh, ----, it is foggier with...
Like, that junction, it's not super obvious which way you're supposed to go.
Remember that one worrying me just a little.
Well, yeah, how would you know? There's no...
It's not clear which one's the main road.
If I wasn't with you, I would have had to stop and look at my map right there.
Well, here's hoping I remember correctly.
But, I've spent a lot of time exploring walking roads like this,
and really, your ultimate recourse is always just to ******* turn around
and go back the way you came.
I always find my way out that way.
Yeah.
Because of the way these roads branch off.
Whoa, ----. It's a little muddy.
Yeah, it's kind of slick.
Huh, I was not expecting that.
Yeah.
Oh, your back's all... roosty.
Oh, my jacket?
A little bit, but it's broken in.
You don't think I can return it anymore?
Uh, well, you might be able to, but do you want to?
No.
I think it's going to work pretty well.
Yeah, seems to be.
What's the guy doing?
I don't know, something official.
Not in his car.
Go home and Google what the **** is everyone doing in the woods today.
I can't think of anything except for shooting and mushrooms.
Can you hunt up here? Are they scouting?
Maybe.
Oh, I'm getting raindrops in my face.
Raindrops keep falling on my face.
That tire track's going straight right there.
Somebody had a bad weekend.
I'm going really slow here. I don't know why.
I'm kind of meandering along.
Well, it's not a race.
I'm just here to enjoy the scenery, but it's also fun to go fast sometimes.
I want to go higher.
I actually watched some of that movie last night.
Deer, eight pounds, tiny, baby geese.
We could compromise. You could just say really thin pancakes.
Really thin pancakes.
Oh, man, Ricky, I had a whole mess of crepes the other day. They're delicious.
So you watched the first half then?
Yeah.
Exactly.
I think my favorite part here is when he's in the hospital and he stabs himself with a knife to prove that he's paralyzed.
Paralyzed?
Doctor says it's psychosomatic.
You mean he can start fires with his mind?
Ricky, don't you shove that knife in your leg.
Don't put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby.
We'll use the other knife to pry out the first knife.
Is somebody broken down here?
I don't know, but it looks like you can get by on the left.
They're hunting up here.
Hey, guys.
Howdy.
I'd rather not fall and crash into that truck.
No, why not?
So it must be hunting season because they are locked and loaded.
Are we going to get shot?
Are we scaring off the deer?
Wherever that road goes.
This looks slick as ----.
Yeah, well, stay in the rough. You'll be fine.
Just don't lock up your tires.
Yeah, I was just putting on a little bit of back brake.
Downshift. You won't get going too fast.
They ******* looked at us like we were insane.
What the **** are these guys doing?
Riding dirt bikes in the woods is not that weird.
Yeah, seriously.
Maybe it's the helmet.
Yeah, or the ******* fact that it's hunting season.
Ooh.
I'm not going to go through all those puddles, but thanks.
Yeah.
Oh, now your back's definitely all skidmarky.
Nice.
That was a lot of ******* hunters.
Like, how many deer can you shoot at at once?
Why do you need 12 people?
They're not camping, so they just met to go walk through the ******* woods together?
I don't know.
I was once part of a group where we had four of us shooting at one deer.
That deer got scared, but that's it.
Yeah.
He's all ******* missing.
Well, how would you know who hit it?
Oh, we just all claim it.
Yeah, right.
And then there was this big fishing contest.
There's some deer off to your left.
Two of them.
You didn't see them?
I saw one.
Is that a horse?
Yeah, it is.
Okay, I thought it was a ******* elk for a second.
Another dog up here.
Oh, ----.
You all right?
Is that a cougar?
Or just the biggest ******* cat in the world?
It's not the right color for a cougar.
Did you see that thing?
Well, I saw it going across the road, but I'm way behind you now.
When I saw it come out of the woods, I wasn't sure how far away it was.
I thought it was the size of a golden retriever.
Oh, I see it.
Yeah, that's definitely a cat.
Damn it, I thought I was going to see something awesome.
It's too pretty to be a ******* cougar.
Yeah.
Way dirtier.
So this is where we turn.
If you want to go look at that campground, I swear to God it's, like, not even five miles straight.
What do you think?
I'm game.
You want to lead?
All right.
Because this campground, I think, would be a cool place to ride out and auto-camp.
And it's not as primitive, but it's still not, like, all luxuries either.
Yeah.
Can you see me?
Yeah, I'm right behind you.
Oh, man.
How do you like my action?
Are you standing?
Here's the campground right here.
Yeah.
I was right.
It is real close.
Big elk campground, baby.
This is the one.
Yeah, that was totally worth the detour.
I'm glad we did that.
There's a lot of leaves right here.
Are there any big elk?
Because I'd like to see a big elk.
Apparently there's a good fishing spot down here, judging by the sign.
But no trash can to get all everything out.
Oh, just the shitty vault toilet, no pun intended.
Man.
Yeah, but it's a cool little spot, I think.
I could definitely use a quick pit break.
All right, well, I'm right up here, if it's ******* open.
I think this is seriously all decomposing leaves.
Like, I think there's blacktop or gravel under this.
All right, back to the road.
Washboard bullshit!
Huh?
There's washboard bullshit on that corner.
Oh, I thought you may have been narrating your crash.
Oh, no, I mean, I've done it before.
Oh, ----, I'm ******* crashing!
I am tumbling, I have hit the ground.
The bike is on top of me, and I am dead.
Oh, ----.
Oh, ----, deer.
Whoa.
Whoa, buddy.
Yeah, did you see him?
Yeah, he ran right in front of me.
I was like, if that ******* deer turns, I'm in trouble.
Yeah, they both looked at each other.
One went right, and the other one went straight across the road behind you.
Oh, ----.
That's not good.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for watching.
I hope you enjoyed today's adventure where we circumnavigated the tallest peak in the Oregon Coast Range.
It's true.
We got our gravel, our highway.
Really using both sports of the dual sports.
So, good times.
Thanks for watching.
Don't forget to like and subscribe.
I will be making sure to record my motorcycling adventures.
But, like I said, it's the off-season, so they may be a little bit more infrequent.
But I appreciate you sticking with me.
Thanks a lot, guys.
Have an excellent, excellent winter.
And don't forget to be excellent to each other.
Thank you.
Excellent!
Goodbye!
I'm going to put that at the end of this thing.
