You know how some habits just quietly change your life? Not in a dramatic,
I woke up at 5am and everything flipped upside down kind of way, but in a soft,
steady way that makes the whole day feel lighter. These are the small daily things I do without
thinking. Rituals that keep me grounded, calm and content. And here's the best part,
they don't cost a thing. No fancy memberships, no shopping hauls, just simple,
repeatable habits that make life feel a little bit more beautiful. Funny enough,
they've also kept me from spending money I didn't really need to spend,
but that's actually just a bonus. Hi my friend, if you're new here, my name is Sarah and I'm
the owner of frozenpennies.com. I'm a financial coach and the author of the international best
selling book Fundamentally Frugal, link below. The real goal is feeling good in my body,
in my home and in my life. And so today I'm sharing 10 of those everyday habits,
little things that you might not think about, but that can completely shift the way you move
through your day. Eating a high protein breakfast. Mornings set the tone for my whole day and
starting with a high protein breakfast has been one of the best changes that I have made.
Eggs, bacon or Greek yogurt keep me feeling satisfied and steady. No sugar crash,
no mid-morning slump. My mornings are busy, but I really try hard not to feel rushed. We get up by
6.30 so that my husband and I can get our son ready for day program. If you're not aware,
we have a 26 year old severely special needs son who still lives with us. Every day he gets to go
to a day program where he has meals and activities with his peers. While I get his lunch packed and
breakfast ready, I'm drinking a protein shake. I feel best when I get some protein in me,
no more than an hour after waking. Then I go for a walk and come back to a good full breakfast.
When I feel my body well first thing, I have more energy. I'm in a better mood and I make
better choices all day long. That's the thing about small nourishing choices. They ripple out
into every part of your day and you realize you're living in a way that naturally supports both your
health and your budget. Getting a good night's sleep. Now there is something magical about a
truly restful night of sleep. It's not just about waking up without an alarm. It's about the way
everything feels easier the next day. I'm calmer, more focused, and less reactive. I'm more likely
to cook a healthy meal instead of grabbing takeout, more likely to go for a walk instead of
scrolling on my phone, and more likely to make decisions that support my bigger goals. When I'm
tired, I notice I reach for quick fixes, extra coffee, fast food, even impulse purchases online,
and let's not forget sugar and carbs. But when I'm rested, I don't need those pick-me-ups. I
already feel good. In that way, good sleep is like a quiet form of self-care that keeps me steady
in both my energy and my spending without ever trying to save money at all. I spend a lot of
time focusing on learning what I can do to get a good night's sleep. I think it's far more important
than anything else we can do for longevity. Drinking water. Carrying my water bottle has
become second nature. As a matter of fact, I have it right next to me. It's such a simple thing, but
it makes a huge difference in how I feel. Staying hydrated keeps my mind clear, my energy steady,
and my skin looking healthy. And while that's the main reason I do it, I've also noticed how it
quietly keeps me from grabbing drinks on the go. Soda, iced tea, Starbucks, or bottled water from
convenience stores. It's not only about the money saved, but the way it feels and makes me prepared
and taken care of. There's something grounding about having exactly what you need with you
without having to search for it or spend on it. Hydration is one of those basics that supports
everything else. Your focus, your mood, and your overall well-being. Going for a walk. Walking is my
moving meditation. It costs nothing, but it feels like a luxury. There's something about the rhythm
of my steps, the fresh air, and the way my mind starts to settle that changes the rest of my day.
If you get my free penny jar newsletter, there's a link below. I talk about my really long walk that
I took all day long and what it actually did for me. Now, I walk when I'm stressed, when I'm stuck
on a problem, or when I just need to feel a little bit lighter. I walk to listen to podcasts because
I'm not a fan of podcasts, but it's a great way to soak in some education when you're just not in
the mood for your beloved 90s grunge nirvana, chili peppers, or Alice in Chains playlist.
It's not exercise for the sake of burning calories, it's exercise for the sake of peace.
And I found that the more I walk, the less I look for other ways to change my mood,
whether that's shopping or snacking or scrolling. It's not that I'm trying to save money,
which is a bonus, but that I found something better. Something that fills me up without
adding clutter to my home or my calendar. Not snacking between meals. Not snacking between
meals started as a wellness habit. I wanted to eat more mindful and give my body a chance to
fully digest before the next meal, but I noticed something else. I felt calmer around food and I
stopped stocking up on the just-in-case snacks that often went uneaten, or worse, did get eaten.
Sitting down to a real satisfying meal feels more intentional, more like a choice. I'm making for
myself rather than a reaction to boredom or stress. It's less about the rules and more about
rhythm, creating space to enjoy food without grazing all day. And yeah, it naturally means
fewer grocery runs and less food waste, but that's just a bonus. The real win is feeling
more in control of my energy, my mood, and my habits. Taking a coffee break at 3 p.m.
My 3 p.m. decaf coffee break is one of my favorite little rituals. It's not rushed or
grabbed on the go. It's slow and intentional. I brew at home, maybe with a cookie on the side,
and take a few minutes to pause. Some days I read, some days I sit outside, and some days I just
stare out the window. This little anchor in my day gives me something to look forward to without
relying on shopping or snacking for a mood boost. It's not about cutting out the coffee shop.
Sometimes I still go, but by creating my own daily treat at home, I feel more grounded and less
dependent on spending for that moment of joy. It's a reminder that luxury isn't always about
where you are. It's about how you experience it. Meditating. Meditation is the habit that
slows everything down in the best way. Just a few minutes of sitting quietly, breathing deeply,
and letting my thoughts settle changes how I move throughout the day. It helps me respond
instead of react. It sets me the space to check in with myself before I act, and that awareness
spills into every part of my life. It's not about saving money. It's about living in a way that feels
more aligned and intentional. Now most of my meditation happens right before bed, but I've
been trying to fit in one more a little bit earlier in the day. My goal here is to lower those cortisol
levels and stomp out any anxiety that I might be feeling, and that means fewer quick decisions I
later regret. Whether that's snapping at someone, eating something that doesn't make me feel great,
or buying something I just don't need. Meditation gives, and when you live like that, you naturally
end up with more of what matters and less of what doesn't. Asking myself, who do I want to be today?
This tiny morning habit changes everything. Before the day starts rushing in, I pause and ask myself,
who do I want to be today? Some days the answer is patient. Some days it's focused. Many days it's
productive. Some days it's light-hearted and fun. Most days I remind myself that I want to be healthy.
I want to live my life in a way that takes care of my body and my mind. That simple question shapes
the choices I make, what I eat, how I spend my time, and yes, even how I spend my money. When I have a
clear picture of the person I want to be, I'm less likely to drift into habits that don't fit.
It's a gentle form of self-guidance that helps me stay connected to my core values, and when you're
living in alignment with who you want to be, you naturally spend more time, energy, and resources on
what really supports that vision. Taking my space pretty. Now making my space pretty has nothing to
do with buying new things. It's about caring for what I already have so that it feels fresh,
inviting, and loved. I put away the clutter, take care of the dirty dishes, smooth out the blankets,
light a candle, or place flowers from the yard in a vase. It shifts the whole feeling of the room
and my mood along with it. When my home feels beautiful to me, it feels more content. I'm not
out hunting for decor or to fix a space that doesn't feel good. It already feels good because
I've tended to it. The bonus? I'm not bringing in more stuff I don't need. But truly, it's less about
avoiding spending and more about cultivating appreciation for the life and the home I have
right now. Remembering to breathe throughout the day. This one is so simple, but it changed my life.
I remind myself to stop and take a deep breath before answering a stressful email,
before making a decision, before reacting to something that frustrates me. That breath slows
me down and in that pause I get to choose how I respond. Sometimes it means I speak more kindly,
sometimes it means I realize I don't actually need to buy or do the thing I was about to do,
but mostly it just means I'm living with more presence. And when you live that way,
the unnecessary, whether it's stress or clutter, just fades away. It's a tiny habit that keeps me
feeling balanced and balanced me doesn't need to look outside myself for something to make me feel
better. It's amazing how the smallest, simplest habits can quietly change the way you feel
and how you spend without even trying to. When you fill your days with things that make you feel
calm, cared for, and content, you naturally want less of everything. So maybe pick one of these
habits to start with and see how it shifts, not just your day, but the way that you move through
your life. And if this video spoke to you, don't forget to like, share, subscribe, and watch this
