in this video i'm going to cover how to
find the length of the diameter of a
circle given the radius now the radius
of a circle is the distance from the
center of the circle to any point on the
circle so the length of a line segment
that connects the center to any point on
the circle on the other hand a diameter
is a line segment that connects two
points on a circle and it has to go
through the center so it cuts or divides
a circle in half so into two equal
pieces to compare a radius goes from the
center to any point on the circle while
a diameter goes all the way across the
circle and through the center this means
that a diameter is twice or two times
the length of a radius all we have to do
is multiply the given radius by 2 to get
the length of the diameter let's jump
into our examples starting with number
one where we have a given radius of 7
inches so our diameter
equals our given radius of seven inches
times two
seven times two is fourteen
so our diameter
is going to be fourteen
inches and i will write that up top as
well
again our diameter for number one is 14
inches so that radius that's from the
center to any point on the circle our
diameter goes all the way across the
circle so we are doubling that radius so
our diameter would go all the way across
the circle so distance from this point
through the center
to this point over there
and that's going to be
14
inches let's move on to number two where
we have a given radius of 24 centimeters
so our diameter
equals our given radius of 24
centimeters
times two
24 times two equals 48
so our diameter
equals 48 centimeters
i'll write that up top as well
our diameter for number two is 48
centimeters so the diameter goes all the
way across the circle it starts at one
point on the circle
goes through the center
and to another point on the circle and
again it is twice the radius so the
diameter here is going to be
48 centimeters so there you have it
there's how you find the diameter of a
circle given the radius
i hope that helped
thanks so much for watching
until next time
peace
