Come on, Dawson!
My name is Taylor and today we'll go on an adventure that celebrates the bottlenose dolphins.
It's our hope that you leave here today knowing so much more about these amazing animals.
And have a renewed respect for the ocean and all the ways we share with them.
Now let's get things started by introducing you to one of the dolphins we care for.
This is Brave.
Brave is a bottlenose dolphin, which is just one of several different species of whales and dolphins.
Also known as cetaceans that can be found right off our Florida coast.
All of the dolphins you'll meet today were born within our SeaWorld Park.
And they range in age from 5 all the way up to 47 years old.
After today's presentation, be sure to visit us next door at Key West Dolphin Home.
There you can get an up-close look and learn a lot more about these amazing marine mammals.
But now that we've met some of the pod, let's dive in and talk about what makes dolphins so cool.
Nature has provided them with some amazing adaptations that allows them to navigate,
forage, and even play, like a ball on top of their head.
Now this is where dolphins breathe from, of course.
And did you know, they can also make a wide variety of vocalizations.
So let's listen in.
Now dolphins are required to hold their breath while they fish, squid, and even the occasional crustacean.
To catch this fast-moving and slippery fish, dolphins like Rascal and Anthony will use their powerful tails
to reach speeds of up to 22 miles per hour.
Dolphins will also use their powerful tails to get a better look above the surface,
get in deep flow ways, and all the way up and out of the water.
Engaging our dolphins, both physically and mentally, allows us to give them the best care possible.
And provides them with exceptional animal welfare.
Through this care, we're able to develop bonds and build relationships with them,
much like you would with a dog at home.
But while dolphins seem to be natural athletes, it's our mutual love of play that provides that connection between us.
And over the past 60-plus years, SeaWorld has learned that their play ultimately leads to our discoveries.
So while their playtime today might just look like a lot of impressive jumps and spins,
it's actually an essential part in how we care for them.
Just watch.
How'd it go?
Hey everybody, this is our Dolphin Family!
You know, I have to tell you all, the chance to get up close and face-to-face with animals like these
can bring out the child in any of us.
And those childhood impressions often last a lifetime.
That's why today, we hope to inspire and help this world again.
In pretty much the same way that many of our trainers are inspired on our first visits to the park.
So with that, I have a very special guest joining me today.
Hey man, what you doing?
Devon, it is very nice to meet you, Devon. And where are you visiting us from?
He's all the way from New Jersey! Let's give him a great big SeaWorld hug!
Now Devon, today we are going to be showing everybody out there
how we can improve our relationships with the animals that we take care of.
Just like my friend Scott over there.
But in order to do that, we need to get a little bit closer.
So let's take a few more steps.
Right up to that 24-foot drop there, Devon.
Very nice.
Now, when we met, we shook hands, and that's a great way to meet Scott.
So, you're going to put out your hand, he'll come up, and you get to shake his foot.
So Devon, meet Scott. Scott, meet Devon!
Devon, that was awesome!
So, you know, another really good way to build your relationship with Scott
is to feed him some fish. So here, put out your hand.
And you can toss him that fish.
There you go, right down the hatch. Big throw. There you go.
And one more.
Nice throw, Devon! You just read an omen! High five!
All right, Devon.
Look at your hands.
You want to smell them?
Yeah, they're covered in fish guts.
Don't worry, I'm going to show you how we get rid of those.
First thing we're going to do, we're going to show our hands to Scott,
and then put them together, and rub them.
Yeah, even faster than that, Devon.
You've got to get the fish guts all over your hands,
and then you just wipe them off.
That's going to be a long trip to the hotel later.
You know what, Devon, something else Scott really seems to enjoy
are nice, soft back rubs, right?
Yeah, so how about you put both knees down on the ground, just like me,
and we can reach out and give him a little back massage.
You want to bring both knees down?
Here, bring both knees down, just like I'm doing here.
There you go, Devon.
You can give Scott a little back massage.
What do you think he feels like?
Like a dolphin, yeah!
He's really soft and smooth, and that's what helps him go super fast in the water.
Now, Devon, I actually have a little bit of a secret.
Scott has a bit of a tickle spot.
You want to give him a tickle right from that purple bit?
Yeah, right there.
Devon, I think you found it, and he got you all wet.
You know what, I think we need to kick things up a notch.
We are going to see if we can ask Scott to go on a really big jump,
and I'm going to teach you the hand signal so you can ask him.
First thing you're going to do, you're going to take this hand and point it to the sky.
Perfect. Now when I say go, you're going to point that hand all the way up to the sky.
Ready, set, go!
Check it out, Devon, he saw you, and this is just for you!
Devon, that was sky high!
And look at how fast Scott gets back here.
Now, are you having fun so far today?
Yeah, me too!
And you know, you were lucky enough to be randomly selected for coming to Scott today.
But did you know that everybody out there has a chance to meet a dolphin too?
That's right! Right next door at Dolphin Cove, we offer animal encounters,
and it is a great way to get up close with our flipper friends.
After the presentation, simply exit to the left and look for the yellow cabana.
There, you can book a dolphin adventure of your very own.
Now Devon, here, I've got another fish for you to toss to Scott.
You know what type of fish you feed him today? You can toss that to him.
It is a dead fish, yeah!
That one's called a sardine, and he also eats herring and capelin.
You can eat about 20 pounds of these fish every single day.
You can toss that to him.
Now, Devon, you've got fish cups on your hands again.
You know what we're going to do, right? Yeah, we put them together.
We row even faster this time, Devon!
Now what do we do?
Yeah, we just roll them off. We've got to get shirts this time too.
And we've got to fish your herring.
Devon, you officially smell like a dolphin trainer now.
You know what? You have been amazing today.
Here, open up. I've got a fish that is just for you.
I'm just kidding. You can toss that one to Scott too.
Devon, you have been incredible today.
I just have one thing left for you to do,
and that is to take this hand and give your new friend a big wave goodbye.
Hey everybody, that was Devon and his new friend Scott.
Well, it's amazing to see that Devon and Scott just went on a fun adventure.
But what about all of you? Are you ready to see some more?
Yeah!
That's great, because we still have so much more for you to discover.
But discovery can also lead to risk.
Dolphins are in a bleak area, and out in the ocean,
this can lead them to explore polluted areas, or even play with marine trash.
So what can we do to all help?
Small things can have big impacts.
Recycle. Join a beach cleanup.
Be sure to properly discard a fishing line and plastic bottles.
Better yet, choose reusable items and reduce the amount of waste we all produce.
Simple actions like these can go a long way in protecting our ocean life.
The other trainers and I are just a few of over 350 zoological professionals on the SeaWorld team.
Collectively, this team not only provides world-class care for these dolphins,
but has facilitated the rescue of over 42,000 animals.
With the goal of rehabilitating and returning them to their natural environment.
And this is all thanks to you.
Your visit today matters.
Without your support, we couldn't do this good work and save wildlife that needs our help.
So on behalf of our entire Animal Care team, we'd like to say thank you.
Squirm and take action.
On behalf of the animals that have fallen off, that's part of the legacy that we're leaving behind.
And that legacy is one worth celebrating.
We can do this.
Celebrate.
Happy to be with you.
You can do it.
This is what it's all about.

Here we go.
How about some music?

Whoa oh oh oh oh.
