What Is Disability Insurance? (in 2023) | Employee Benefits 101| Dallas Group Benefits Broker

Hey everyone, it's Ryan with Holloway Benefit Concepts. We're going to continue on with our Employee Benefits 101 series. In the next string of videos, we're going to be talking about disability protection. You'll also see it referred to as DI sometimes, disability insurance. But first, let's start high level before we get into too many specifics. What is disability insurance? If you want to think about it, it's basically paycheck protection. As an employer, if you're offering disability coverage, it's going to protect your employees in the event that they get sick or injured and they cannot come to work. It's going to replace a portion of their income. Another nice thing with disability coverage, it can actually be tailored to suit different employees' needs. It's not as regulated as health insurance and some of those things, so you can tailor a certain benefit for your management and your executives, maybe have a lesser benefit for hourly workers, that kind of thing. We're going to talk through short-term disability and long-term disability, kind of the two flavors. Stay tuned.
