Schumer Gets ROCKED By AOC In Stunning Senate Race Surprise.
Not too long ago, I called on AOC to launch a just political coup inside of the Democratic Party,
where if they don't want to be leaders, we still need leaders and so she should take it for
herself. And she hasn't done that just yet, although she's doing great work with Bernie
Sanders going around getting big crowds together to fight the oligarchy and all that.
But maybe there is an opening for it because a lot of people coming out of Chuck Schumer's
surrender to MAGA are saying, maybe he shouldn't be the leader anymore.
Maybe he shouldn't even be the senator from New York anymore. And if it goes to a primary,
new polling shows he might be in for a bit of a battle. Because according to this most recent
poll from Data for Progress, AOC is currently leading Schumer by 19 points in a hypothetical
primary matchup. And one in which, by the way, there's not a lot of people who aren't sure what
they're gonna do. And you'd think there might be, this is a big shakeup. I mean, Chuck Schumer's
been there forever. We don't know AOC as much. Only 9% say that they don't know.
And what's even more amazing than her being up by 19 points right now is Data for Progress did
something I think really responsible. Where they then took some part of the respondents and they
provided possible lines of attack against the candidates to see if they might be effective.
And everybody always says, AOC, she's this radical. She doesn't have leadership experience.
She's blah, blah, blah, whatever. So they put together this bio of her stressing the negative.
Can we jump ahead to graphic three, actually? And you can see it pitches her as only able to
energize the more extreme elements in her party. Calls her a polarizing figure with a confrontational
style and social media presence that's overshadowed efforts to build consensus and achieve
real legislative progress. It goes on and on and on, all this stuff that you would almost certainly
hear from Chuck Schumer and see in ads. And so they use that, and then they asked people who
they would support in this. And in that particular case, she didn't lose any of that vote after that
negative bio. And when they presented a more positive bio representing what she might advertise
around, she gained one point. So overall, it doesn't seem like either of the bios really had
any effect whatsoever. But people do seem to know what Chuck Schumer is doing, what he's not doing.
And in particular, they want him to do more specifically to fight Donald Trump. If you can
take a look at graphic four, 84% say that Democratic leaders are not doing enough
to oppose Donald Trump. And so what do you think, Brett?
There's a joke I make about sometimes when people ask me to fix something for them and I go,
have you tried anything? That's that vibe. Have you tried trying even a little bit?
And you should be not shocked by the idea that AOC could win a primary against an establishment
Democrat. That's why you know her name anyway. For those that you don't remember, AOC ran not
in an open district at all. Not even in a district that Democrats thought that they
were vulnerable to losing the incumbent in. Joe Crowley was the number three or four Democrat
in the House of Representatives. High profile pitched as the future of the party in line
ahead of Hakeem Jeffries. And AOC beat him because she knows how to run a primary.
She knows how to get out there. She knows how to knock doors. And there's a lot of people out there
that in politics, the reason Donald Trump is where he is, is while everybody in the establishment
would like to submarine him, he's got talent as a candidate. And he won, he beat people head to head
the same way that AOC has. And when you do that, unlikely bedfellows kind of start cozying up to
you because they know they can't beat you. And that's why you've seen AOC on shows like
being more embraced by the establishment over time.
Just not because they like her necessarily, but because they know in many ways they can't beat
her. Why? Because she gets caught trying, because she fights hard. She has tried anything. So you'll
see her on crooked media shows. And those guys were pretty much dedicated to the proposition that
if you oppose the establishment, there's something wrong with you. They were the establishment.
They were the Obama kids. It ends up going that way. And you can see, and no one ever turns around,
and this is why I feel like TYT is like Moses who doesn't get to go to the promised land,
even though they led you there. But this show that you're watching right now, I remember
we got on Zoom AOC breathless after she ran up her walk up steps the day before her primary to
do an interview with John. And no one's gonna turn around and be like, you guys were right,
and we guys were wrong. It just doesn't work that way. It's just you wake up one morning and you've
won. And the people that you beat realize that they're beat. They might not say it explicitly,
but they come around. And that's where all of our fighting, all of our resources, all of our time,
and all of our pavement pounding has paid off, and I hope it continues to.
Now I'm interested to see what they would do in a poll with the general election electorate.
But this is one of those things where it's like, yeah, AOC can beat the crap out of Chuck Schumer.
Yeah, I'm pretty confident about how that poll would go. We'd have to see. But I want that,
I think. And by the way, the whole thing about the no credit or whatever, that's fine. I'm
totally used to that, years and years and years. Never gonna get it, totally fine, don't care.
Just wanna be able to look out at a country that's better than it was.
And sometimes that does happen. It's happened during the many, many years I've been doing this,
not nearly enough, and it certainly doesn't feel that way right now. But I do have some hope for
the future. And I think one way we can channel that hope is to remake the party in every way
possible. Now, based on my biases, I might focus on this particular race, but this is hardly the
only opportunity to do that. And we should not be complacent. We should not be Chuck Schumer
during this time, okay? We should all be acting directly, challenging these people to do more.
And if they won't, replacing them with the people who will at all levels.
