Last year we decided to buy an RV. We recently moved into it full time to travel across the U.S. This is the first of hopefully many vlogs that document our daily lives living, traveling, and working in a tiny off-grid home on wheels.
We're Tyler and Madison. Last year we flew across the country to buy an RV that we
would end up renovating for 11 months to make it suitable for off-grid living.
We sold most of our things and found remote work so we can travel full-time across the U.S.
In 2020 we realized that working the 9-5 just isn't what we wanted in this season of life.
We wanted to live differently. We don't know what the future holds and
that's what's exciting. It's a leap of faith but we know that this is just the
beginning of our new life on the road. We drove out of Nashville, Tennessee on a
foggy Tuesday morning across the Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri state
lines. For one week we stayed in my parents' front yard. Dad helped me put our
new awning up. I pushed my nephew on the tire swing, rode bikes with a friend,
and finally he left the driveway to hit the open road towards Colorado.
We don't have AC on our cabs so when the Kansas heat set in at 3 o'clock we
felt it. We were relieved to get to our Harvest Host for the night.
We're probably going to leave here at like 6 or 6.30 right when the sun's coming up and try to beat the heat and drive as much as we can to Colorado.
I think we got like a four, maybe five hour drive, something like that.
Cheers to our first day!
May tomorrow be cool.
Finally made it to our destination for the night. We're here at a Walmart
parking lot. Then tomorrow we're gonna leave and go to Arapahoe Bay campground
and hopefully it's only gonna be a three-hour drive. In this thing it'll
probably be four because of the motor and how slow we go.
Good morning. Finally driving into some mountains today.
We made it to Estes Park, finally. Finally. So we are in Estes Park right now and the
place that we're wanting to stay at is in a place near Grand Lake and in order
to get there you have to go through Rocky Mountain National Park on a road
called Trail Ridge Road which goes over the Continental Divide and a little
over 12,000 feet. Right now we're about 7,800 feet I think so we're gonna have
about 4,000 foot climb in order to get to where we're wanting to camp for the
rest of the week. So we'll see what this RV is capable of. Well let's pack up and go.
So we got our America the Beautiful pass and that includes all national parks in
America you can get into for $80 for the year. So the first time we went through
we got the pass then he told us we had to turn around and get out of line and go
make a reservation to get into the park because apparently they can only let so
So it just delayed us probably 30 minutes. He liked our RV though.
Campsite in Colorado so I'm making us dinner. I'm making some pork chops with
broccoli and some rice and Tyler's outside with his dad but this spot is
only $11.50. We could not believe it. It also helped that we have
the America the Beautiful pass so it's already kind of paying for itself but
look at this beautiful view. We have the lake over there and you can hear the
sound of the creek. He's on FaceTime. It is just so beautiful there's barely
anybody around so it is definitely a blessing. But unfortunately we didn't
have enough cash to stay here as long as we wanted to. Unfortunately they only
take cash or check which we don't really have either one of those so what we're
having to do is we'll stay here for two nights. We have enough for two nights and
then we'll have to go out of town get some cash and then come back if we want
to come back. That's the beauty of this lifestyle thankfully but we do really
love it so it's pretty cheap for what you get.
I was paddling. I'm not making this up.
Our inflatable kayak held up pretty well I think. Yep it's just kind of heavy.
It helped us stay afloat which is important.
Tonight we are having chicken and rice and we're probably gonna eat outside
because it's really hot in here and it's a beautiful sunset.
For our last night in this location we are going to take the kayak out and go watch the sunset on the lake.
I'm gonna be your roommate.
Probably got another 25 minutes till the sun goes down we're just gonna wait and
then the wind will take us back real fast as soon as it goes down.
We had some noisy neighbors the last two nights so it's nice to have one. One quiet night.
But it's so peaceful because there's nobody out here on boats or anything and it was full about six hours ago.
Do you see something?
Well let's paddle back.
This is a good place to end the video.
There'll be a lot more videos to come so thanks for watching.
Is that a good ending?
