The Story of the Old Ma
There once was an emperor who had a son named Bujor
The emperor was now old and weak
He had not raised armies against anyone and therefore had no enemies
No one is without their own troubles
The emperor however had his own trouble
Avea on his estate a grove of birch and aspen trees in the middle of which was a spring controlled by the elves and fairies
Care having entered the forest never returned again but in a twisted form
Another in a dog another in a donkey
Old people used to exchange their flowers and weeds or to beat them if they were not a man in his whole life
But you see they made the man fall in love with themselves and laughed at him like a fool
The emperor as soon as his son was born advised him to go anywhere in the kingdom if he wished but not to go into the forest with the elves
Don't step there dear father for whatever happens to you you won't share it with anyone
Then he gave up
Left alone Bujor wept as much as he could for Moșneag and after a while he began to look after the affairs of the kingdom again and among other things it was his concern to see the villages and towns
She went to one market then to another and wandered through the elf's parts with the fairies
And the forest was so full of mystery and so filled with the song of birds that just passing by it a person would fall asleep
In moonlit nights the fairies' song would make you fall ill with longing and magic
And throughout the forest only a path existed made by the creatures that came to the edge of the forest and then fled again
The emperor's horse was just passing by the edge of the forest having been quite frightened by what his father the emperor had said
There the cool air of the forest seemed to pull at him and he thought maybe the fairies were not always in the forest to put him to sleep
As he passed only along the edge of the forest he fell asleep as well as his horses and the guards and the soldiers who were watching over him
They settled under a canopy of oak trees lay down on the grass and fell asleep
It became night the moon had turned red like fire and kept rising in the sky and they were sleeping and sleeping
Suddenly heard a whisper of a song and Bujor awoke
He listened and his heart began to beat strongly
It seemed torment him to know who was singing just to see it at least
And she went among the trees slowly and in a clearing she saw herself surrounded by beautiful fairies white as white marble
They began to dance swirling around like a whirlwind
When he saw so many girls beside him he blushed and turned red in the face
Let's make him a donkey
The other replied no a tailor
But she spoke I say a calf
She raised her head wearing a crown of precious stones and said "No she was not "
I said to myself let's make him a flower so he can't walk at all
Then turning to the rose which was stunned and trembling with fear he said making a hand gesture
So may you remain Amen
And the thorn also turned into a red flower red as embers large and fluffy like a puffball
People said he was a fool and the fool has remained to this day
Thank you
