On Sunday, Aug. 31 in Annandale Virginia, a number of candidates running in Virginia’s upcoming elections met to speak about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to infiltrate and influence American society, culture and politics. The conversation was held by the Asian Community Service Center, and marked a rare opportunity to hear directly from candidates about this often overlooked topic.
The U.S. election in Virginia is drawing near.
On Aug. 31,
more than a dozen candidates from both parties
who are running for state, federal, state and local office
attended a meeting in the Asian community
to listen to local voters' concerns about the CCP's threats,
cross-border suppression, and other issues,
and made a response.
Here is a report by reporter Chen Jing.
Whether that's the Chinese Communist Party
or whether that's MS-13 gang members
threatening our communities,
we have to stand up against them.
And what's the solution in a single word?
Strength.
Transnational repression is real.
There's no question that it's happening
across our community and across the United States.
On Aug. 31,
at the Asian Community Service Center's
candidate meeting,
a short clip from the Falun Dafa Information Center was played,
revealing that the CCP is trying to use
The center's researchers also said
that in recent years,
the CCP's cross-border suppression of foreign dissidents
has been constantly escalating,
directly affecting the lives of residents in Northern Fuzhou.
One of those cases actually happened right here
at the candidate center.
So this has happened in February,
where a bomber targeted the theater
and it was saying that,
if you're going to let Xi Jinping perform right here,
we're going to kill everybody.
On Sept. 9,
a special election for the 11th Congressional District
will be held in Virginia.
On Sept. 19,
early voting will be launched throughout the state.
For voters to ask questions
about how to resist the CCP's legal warfare,
two members of Congress will respond.
So one of the things I can do
as your representative in Congress
is I can subpoena folks.
I can have them come in and testify.
I can get access to facilities and get access to things.
Also with my background and investigations with the FBI,
I understand some of that.
So I would be able to work with the FBI to get them involved.
And our best tool is to have an FBI
and U.S. intelligence agencies
that are able to identify that,
to counter it using the techniques
and tactics and tools that they have.
And when possible,
prosecute those involved who have violated the law.
At the scene, there are also listeners who mentioned
that there are U.S. Chinese schools
taking students to Xinjiang
to clear the CCP of its suppression of Uyghurs
and to allow more Chinese students to come to the U.S.
and other concerns.
On a state level,
we can certainly introduce legislation.
If the students go to Mujahidin schools,
they have to be vetted.
The dozens of candidates from both parties
who attended the meeting said
they will work to improve the public's understanding
of the CCP's threat
and actively prevent cross-border suppression
and infiltration
to protect the safety and freedom of local residents.
