Welcome back to our channel, viewers! Are you still searching for the fountain of youth?
Well, it might not be as far away as you think. It might be at your local grocery store.
When you fuel your body with healthy food that's full of antioxidants,
vitamins and minerals, you have the power to turn back the clock.
What's the first place it'll show through? The biggest organ on your body. Your skin.
Aging is a natural process and everyone goes through it. But if you want to age gracefully
and keep others guessing your actual age, then keep watching for the
best foods to eat to fight the signs of aging over 40.
Number 1. Water. Okay, this one might not be a food exactly, but keeping yourself hydrated
should be a top priority. The human body is made up of about 60% water and our blood is 90% H2O.
But most of us don't drink enough each day. A healthy adult needs about 2 litres of water each
day. As we age, the sensation of thirst decreases. So it's that much more important to make sure
you're getting enough each day. Water has all kinds of benefits, from regulating your body
temperature, helping you think clearly, flushing toxins from your body and yes,
keeping your skin looking young, radiant and wrinkle free.
So the next time you're looking for something to drink,
skip the soda and opt for a glass of refreshing water. Your future self will thank you.
Number 2. Broccoli. Here's another reason why your mom was right when she told you to
eat your veggies. Broccoli is one of those foods that can do a world of good to your body.
It's anti-inflammatory and anti-aging. Plus, it's loaded with good stuff,
like lots of different antioxidants which fight off free radicals that cause cell damage.
It's a good source of fiber, which helps keep you regular but can control your hunger and keep
you from snacking. Broccoli also contains folate, calcium and lutein which has been
linked to better memory preservation. Not to mention broccoli is a great source of vitamin C,
which can promote collagen which is what keeps your skin's elasticity and strength.
Keeping your skin looking great and your age a mystery.
We recommend you eat broccoli raw to get all of its benefits. But if you want to cook it,
steaming it is the best way to get the most out of this green powerhouse.
Number 3. Blueberries. See, this list isn't so bad. Blueberries are delicious. These little
berries have a big impact on your health and are believed to be one of the best sources
of antioxidants of all fruits and veggies. Blueberries contain antioxidants called anthocyanins
which not only help you appear younger but it's also why blueberries are blue.
Plus, the phytochemicals found in blueberries and certain vegetables combat oxidative stress
and inflammation in the brain which could reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
Several different berries have been shown to actually reverse age-related declines in animals
and blueberries were at the top of the list, showing promising results in their ability
to improve memory function in older adults. You can add blueberries to your morning smoothie
or oatmeal for an added healthy boost. Number 4. Nuts. Almonds and walnuts especially
are definitely something you should add into your diet if you're looking to keep that youthful glow.
Almonds are one of the best sources of vitamin E out there and vitamin E
helps your body repair any damaged skin tissue,
keeps your skin hydrated and can even protect it from the sun's damaging rays.
You'll want to stick with the almonds that have the skins on because that's where all
those antioxidants are. Antioxidants can help your cells fight damage,
aging and certain diseases like cancer. Almonds have been linked to possible
prevention of cognitive decline in older adults too. Whereas walnuts are another
great choice when it comes to anti-aging foods because they are a great source of
anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids that can help your body fight off sun damage,
can strengthen the skin cell membrane and can help keep your skin looking beautiful
by protecting its natural oil barrier. On top of all that, walnuts have also
been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease. Whenever you're looking for a snack,
try grabbing a handful of almonds or walnuts or add them to a salad to
punch up the flavor and the health benefits.
Watercress. This is one you may not be really familiar with but this leafy green
is often praised for its health benefits. When it comes to anti-aging, it's hydrating
and contains a bunch of vitamins like vitamin A, C, K, B1 and B12.
Like we mentioned in some of the other foods, watercress has loads of antioxidants
which can fight off oxidative stress and more visibly, those pesky wrinkles and fine lines.
Some studies have also suggested that watercress might also have the power to boost immunity,
aid in digestion and support thyroid function.
Bell peppers. Specifically red and orange bell peppers because they're high in antioxidants
and are ultimately what will help you win the war against the clock.
Red bell peppers are loaded with vitamin C as well which as you know from earlier in the video
can help build collagen and keep your skin looking young and wrinkle free.
You'll find something called carotenoids in fruits and vegetables that are responsible
for the bright colors like red, orange and yellow. These plant pigments not only give
your food its vibrant color but it also has anti-inflammatory properties and can help protect
your skin from sun damage, pollution and other toxic elements you may come into contact with
on a daily basis. Bell peppers are a great snack on their own or you can dip them in hummus or add
them to any cooked dish for a splash of color and a ton of healthy additions.
Spinach. Popeye was onto something. Eating spinach will keep you hydrated and is loaded with,
yup, you guessed it, antioxidants. Dark leafy greens in general are a great addition to any
diet and should be one of your go-to sources of antioxidants since there's no definitive
evidence that antioxidant supplements can help prevent chronic diseases or do anything to delay
aging. Spinach is high in vitamin C which will boost collagen production. Spinach also has lots
of vitamin A which can keep your hair strong and healthy and vitamin K which can help fight off
inflammation. Sauteed spinach goes great with eggs, stir fry or try throwing spinach into a smoothie
for a great mid-day boost of nutrients. The next item on our list is known as a superfood.

Now back to our list of the best anti-aging foods to eat when you're over 40.
Avocado
We've talked about the health benefits of avocado on this channel before but that's
only because it really is that amazing. Not only are they delicious but they host a ton
of great healthy benefits for anti-aging and more. Avocados contain fatty acids that fight
off inflammation and promote smooth, youthful skin. Remember those carotenoids we talked about
earlier? Well avocados have them too and they help to block toxins and sun damage from the
outside world. Not to mention avocado has lots of vitamin A which helps us to shed old,
dead skin cells, making room for newer, younger looking skin to emerge.
It might be worth it to spring for the guacamole next time you're out for dinner with friends.
The anti-aging benefits are totally worth it.
Chickpeas
Protein is something we all need, especially as we age. Protein is responsible for the regrowth,
repair and maintenance of tissue in our bodies. As we age we don't need as many calories,
but we do need just as much protein and sourcing it from chickpeas,
lentils and legumes is what experts recommend.
Chickpeas are a fantastic source of both protein and fiber, as well as iron and copper. Studies
suggest that replacing your red meat intake with things like chickpeas and beans can help you lose
weight, lower your risk of heart disease and could possibly lower the risk of certain cancers.
In general, the thing experts recommend most is eating whole,
plant-based foods for the majority of your diet paired with a healthy amount of exercise.
This will keep yourself looking young and feeling great throughout your golden years.
Do you eat any of these foods already? What are some of your favorite foods to eat?
