Next is a story about overcoming obstacles. Scott Curley was homeless and spent years in prison
early in life, but he didn't let that stop him from becoming the CEO of a multi-million dollar
tax firm with over 100 employees. He now speaks to others about his life path. NTD's Sean Marshall
shares his story. From homeless criminal to CEO of one of the fastest growing financial companies
in the U.S. Scott Curley's story might just give you some ambition to get past any hurdles you've
been running into. If I, if me as an average intelligence guy with nine felonies in my
background, homeless, 25 years of drug addiction in the streets can achieve quote-unquote business
success and build a 50 million dollar company out of two thousand dollars, anybody can. But how did
he do it? How did he get from criminal to CEO? Well he had to start somewhere and that somewhere
was reading books in prison. From that moment, even though I knew I was looking at a long time,
I did not know when I was getting out. But I knew some kind of way, some way I would get out one day
and so I spent the entire year, those years just reading and reading everything I could. I read
over a thousand books. I read the policies on the prison doors when there was nothing to read. I
read the Bible. I read, I read the dictionary. I read anything that I could and, and, and I just
committed to, to making this time that I had to do worth something and not be a waste and, and so
that was really the pivotal point. But not just books. He had to follow the right mental paths
out of the darkness. With all those books read and knowledge gained, Curley ended up writing a
best-selling book and became a public speaker. Yeah, I wrote a book called Absolution, The Dark
Path to Light that is exactly about that process because it's been, I don't find anything special
about it, but apparently the way it happened, folks think that it's extraordinary. We simply
did it by, by doing just steadily moving forward and not seeing the mistakes as being ending points,
just seeing them as being learning opportunities. Because of Curley's proven track record of success
as the co-CEO of Finish Line Tax Solutions, Curley's growing the company into one of the
largest tax resolution companies in the country. I asked Curley if there was anything he could
share with other business people. Not to be cliche, but I have to add this.
That success is guaranteed for all of us in business, in personal lives. And the reason I
say that it's guaranteed because 100% of opportunities will not be denied us 100%
of the time. It's mathematically impossible. 100% of doors will not be closed 100% of the time.
It's mathematically impossible. Curley's future plans are to turn his event, CommitCon, into a
national movement and travel it around the country to give entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and people
who have been counted out an opportunity to see that they still have options and opportunities.
