In the climactic Mount Doom scene, Frodo and Sam finally reach the fiery volcano deep in Mordor. Exhausted and near death, Sam carries Frodo part of the way. At the Crack of Doom, Frodo is overtaken by the Ring’s power and refuses to destroy it. Suddenly, Gollum attacks, biting off Frodo’s finger to reclaim the Ring. In his joy, Gollum falls into the lava with the Ring, destroying it. Mount Doom erupts. Frodo and Sam are trapped but are rescued by giant eagles. With the Ring gone, Sauron is defeated and Mordor collapses.
