Well, welcome to Flahti, a beautiful bird paradise island here in northwestern Iceland.
We have a small island offshore where we're doing zodiac cruises, full of kitty wakes,
fulmars, a few puffins, lots and lots of shorebirds are about. Here on the main island
we have everything from red shanks to ringed plovers, lots of arctic terns.
We have the black guillemots along the shoreline, red-necked phalaropes. It's a birder's paradise.
You can hear them calling all around the island, all along the pathways. The shoreline,
brilliant place to look for birds. Welcome to Iceland. Good morning, my name is Luciano Bernacchi
and I'm the expedition leader on my team adventure for this trip around Greenland.
We have made our way over from Iceland to Greenland and there's a lot of ice very far
south for this time of year. Sea ice that's making its way southwards on the east side of Greenland.
So we set today out as an expedition day to see what we could find and we've been cruising the
ice edge for the day. This afternoon we jumped on the zodiacs and we headed out and we managed
to find this beautiful ice floe that we're currently standing on. This ice floe is about
a meter and a half thick and we are sitting on water that is about 400 meters deep. An absolutely
amazing experience, an amazing feeling to feel the motion of the ocean under our feet on this ice floe.
An incredible experience for all guests. Welcome to Happy Looktop, my name is Navarana. I'm from
Greenland and we just crossed the beautiful scenic
Kristiansand, as we call it in Greenlandic, Ikerasesvaak. Happy Looktop has 93 inhabitants
and there is a supermarket behind me, there is a church.
Welcome to Bratallik, this is the home of Eric the Red, the first Norse settlement and also the
birthplace of Christianity in Greenland. This was also the starting point of many expeditions that
went on to discover North America. We have ruins that date back to a thousand years,
we have Inuit ruins and it's a beautiful place today with Seabourn Venture. Enjoy.
Hello, my name is Seb Colthard, I am the expedition's historian and submarine pilot.
This morning we had an amazing zodiac cruise looking at the icotype formations in Ikerfjord,
the underwater calcium carbonate formations. We are now at Ivergat and this is the site of one
of the most important cryolite mines in history. From here the cryolite was extracted and used for
the production of aluminium during the second world war. We're here in the little village of
Kaunakt, a little village that was abandoned a few years ago but was the home of several families.
We have a church here, we have a little museum and we have the old abandoned fish factory.
A little nice town, this little settlement where the people are starting to come back to use it as
weekend houses and enjoy the peace and the nature around here.
