TEACHING My Horse To CANTER!

Good morning guys. Welcome to today's video. I am looking So the other day when Sophie went to ride recently at another barn we noticed that She didn't have the stopper on her martingale So I got the one out of my purse because I've been carrying one in my purse for a long time somewhere between My purse and the barn it got lost. I don't have a stopper for that thing But is that a different martingale than the one gabby wore? No, we only have one You only have one martingale? Frustrating because we need the stopper for the martingale because it was I'll show you but I have two so that's the thing I literally have two of them I just don't know where the other one is Annoying so i'm gonna have to go buy one or actually I can maybe order one Because the ones that I have are blue who likes a blue one So, I don't know what we're gonna do. Do you have a way to rig it? Because you really need it Give me tape but I can tape it. You can't tape leather. It'll leave residue She's just gonna ride without it for today, even though she really likes the martingale Yes, I don't have treats just because I went up there. Look at she's pregnant. She looks pregnant Sophie Don't say that after I told her she looks nice you do look nice just nice for a pregnant girl It'll soon be time for the grass to go though The grass is actually going if you guys remember where we left off Sophie took a brief break from Her training that she's been doing all summer to get lady to go slow. She took a brief break to Free jump lady. Look at her. She looks so soft. Look at those little soft eyeballs. You look so soft because she knows that it's not like Um, so she's going back to that now and we left off with her starting to canter lady, so The rule is she has to get her going walk trot canter nice and calm and nice nice and slow So she's doing walk trot Beautifully and now we're working on the canter and the canters which is what started this whole thing because Every time we asked her to canter it always made her Anxious so today or so now Sophie went backwards on that. She stopped doing it completely until she got her going walk trots Slow and now she's going to try and so it's not going to be pretty every single time, but she did. Okay last time She only did a couple of steps last time she just looked bad because she didn't She hasn't been doing it. Yeah, and she just jumped into it Yeah, literally she was hopping a little bit. Yeah Also because sophie was pulling back on the reins because she was trying to Well, and you were trying to control Speed up her trot you were trying to control the excitement. I know you gotta have breaks I was expecting her to keep trotting the whole time and not go and then she just shot off like a rocket All right, so today so he's gonna push it a little further, right Also sam came out and trimmed up the field for her he's gonna go and cut all the wheels weeds and all the fields this weekend But he did this whole field And he did this whole field. So it's looking cute again. Hey penny pen. Look come here, baby penny So sophie whoops sophie decided to not use the martingale today So I thought what you said you were going to do is uh canter over the poles I said the line over the line so sunny the quality of the Video is always so bad when we ride out here in the afternoon because just going up a hill because of the sun We're in your car we can drive away So penny has developed a new habit She did it last year a couple of times and she's done it this year already a couple of times So she her new habit Is that she goes places she's not allowed. So if there's a gate That's no problem. She'll just push it open like she just bursts through it If there's like a fence she got between see that fence over there She got between that fence and the chain link fence one time last year and sam had to Come out and get her out. I don't even know how she got in there But a couple of nights ago sam and gabby just went out to do chores and I kept on getting this Alert on the camera system that there was an animal in the goat field and I was like there's no animals in the goat field But I was paranoid that we left the chicken out or that we left a goat out And so I kept on trying to call sophie and say like did we leave somebody out? I kept looking on the camera. I didn't see anything And then after about 10 alerts because I didn't move the camera around. I just left it where it was facing towards the barn About after 10 alerts all of a sudden I saw penny prancing through the goat field Yeah, and there's a gate and she was locked out, but she didn't stay locked out She wanted to go in the goat field and she was right up there in the goat field And then last night so we leave them out in the summer. So last night so they get locked in this field here here and they don't go in the Field where there's a hay bale Because we want them to not be eating all all night we give them hay out here but then when they're done it they're done it and Last night this morning when we came out a penny was in the in the field in like the drive lot Where the hay is she was in there just enjoying the hay so There's that Other than that though knock on wood. Our horses have been really good. Really really good this year. She is an angel She's always been an angel So I think it's triggered by her having less to eat at night and she must get hungry But she doesn't need to be eating all night for sure. Sam does give them hay out in the field So her whole plan Is to just do her routine walk trot canter over poles and then At the very end she's gonna she's gonna canter her. Oh, that was beautiful For you Oh my gosh you guys there's a cucumber in my garden There's two I don't know if this is the right color for them cucumbers Do you guys see any more that's crazy jesus There was a stick bug on my head. Oh, no It was that yes, it's a stick bug. Is that a stick bug or a praying mantis? I do not like those things I can't believe it that bug actually landed on my head But my favorite food right now Is fried green tomatoes and look at these little tiny peppers Aren't they so cute? They're like baby peppers They're so cute There's still a ton of tomatoes In my garden and i'm excited about that Just kind of leaving them in there and then picking them as I go Once you pick them they go bad if you don't eat them right away And we don't eat a lot of tomatoes. Sam and I do but the girls don't eat them. Hi pumpkin Hi beaker. He's so cute. This guy is such a quiet goat and he lost another Skir he's so quiet though He thinks he's gonna sneak in And he always does because he's so small Get out get out Get out So this is what I wanted to tell you in the goat field interesting news She's still nursing those babies big giant babies All right. So the news oh All right Hi okay So the news is about cricket Hi cricket. So last night I was feeling ligaments, so ligaments Are the ligaments that run alongside the tail and they stay disappear when it's time for the baby to come out They become really soft and disappear. It makes the space bigger easier for the babies to come out. We have 10 days She's so suspicious 10 more days until we have babies on this farm and this is how this feeder is getting broken And I felt her ligaments last night and there were none. I could not feel them at all And then this morning I tried again and I can almost feel one, but it's really really soft and typically that means that The goat's gonna go into labor really really soon within 12 or 24 hours But I looked it up because she's not in labor and she's not showing any signs of labor and she's 10 days too early I don't anticipate her Having babies anytime soon Especially because she still has no udder See look at that Imagine you're that person in the world. You just walk into a room and everybody leaves The only people who don't leave are the people who think i'll protect them That i'll keep them safe from her because I do it all the time So I looked it up and basically it said it can be normal, especially like the udder thing So she doesn't have an udder and that can be normal, especially in smaller breeds like nigerians And especially first freshers. Sometimes they only get an udder when it pops just like a day before labor or during labor and for me I think that's going to be a good sign because If she doesn't have any ligaments, that's what I always use to determine if she's going to go into labor that day She doesn't have any ligaments ever then I'm, never going to be able to tell I won't be able to tell so i'll have to use the udder The udder is probably going to come the day that before she gets gives birth So I looked it up and basically it can be normal to be have really Like lax ligaments like really loose ligaments. Typically that happens after you've had a few kids. She's the first freshener so another way that it can happen is if they are nutritionally deficient in like Zinc and copper and and vitamin E and selenium She's not you can tell by looking at her she's really healthy and I give them all that stuff They get a lot of food with vitamins. They get a lot of minerals with vitamins, but I also have those vitamins and I did give her a copper bolus not long ago Like a few months ago so I'm actually going to give her a couple of injections today and and of like vitamin e and and Selenium and just make sure because even though everything I read says it's not a big deal Especially when your goat looks as good as she does like she's really shiny really nice looking um, but if And and sometimes it's just genetics. Sometimes a goat will just be really have like a lot of laxity in their ligaments so it can also cause like dystocia where Everybody is peeing um where the babies can get stuck because if All of our ligaments are not firm and in alignment Toffee's like yeah, tell them laura then It can cause problems that way. So I don't think it's any issue. I think it's exactly benign like it said But I want to make sure that she's good before the birth so i'm going to give her that Do that i'm going to wait for sophie to come down. She's just putting lady away But it was something interesting that I panicked about all night last night I knew she wasn't in labor. Like I knew she wasn't in labor And I know she's not close to being in labor But I want to feel them now And she loves me to feel them Literally loves it Because it just feels good to her Just let me feel oh yeah, like I can okay. I can barely feel the one on the left hand side And then there's nothing Like she's really loose even under her tail really loose I don't know. I think it's normal I think she's okay, but interesting like I can feel hers So good. I'll just put my hand on her and I can feel them still questioning myself whether she is Pregnant or not Also, no udder for her But I do feel like her udder has made changes. There's crickets on her. No changes at all So i'm still working on this stall getting everything out I have maybe four more wheelbarrows full Yesterday, I took three. This is my first one today, but i'll take at least two maybe three All right shoot Every time I try and do this By myself in the middle of the day. It doesn't go well So sam was out here all afternoon Building something and I already can see I love it but ask I asked and now I have a closed-in area for the Yeah, I need to build it bigger, but I want to get I mean, it's not beautiful, but it's perfect It's temporary It's perfect I can walk in here I can stand up in here so tomorrow they'll go out here I mean A little bit crooked, but I like it. Thank you It's temporary because I want to I took that thing down because I want to build it out that way a big shelter Like a big long right and that'll be like in the spring maybe because we're getting rid of them He's looking for metal panels. He said but in the olden days like we've had Chickens a lot often since gabby was like two we used to have chickens and we used to have ducks and we used to have rabbits We'll get chickens again It's just that taking care of them in the winter is awful Just the way you are Just the way you came
