I’m sharing three DIY projects that take everyday secondhand finds and transform them into high-end designer pieces. We’ll start with a Roman clay concrete table that adds earthy texture to any space, then create charming folk-art wall hooks, and finish with a one-of-a-kind mid-century CD tower lamp that steals the spotlight. If you love budget-friendly DIYs, furniture flips, and creative ways to elevate your home, you’ll love this one—watch along, get inspired, and start turning your own thrifted treasures into statement décor.

Hello everybody. Welcome back to my
channel. I hope you guys are ready for a
video full of thrift flips because today
I'm taking you along with me to the
thrift store and we are going to look
for some items that we can upcycle and
transform, whether they be smaller or
all the way up to large scale furniture
pieces into something completely brand
new. I've shared countless videos thrift
flipping in the past. It is one of my
absolute favorite things to do, but
something I realized is I haven't done
it in quite a while. And since I'm going
out and sourcing for my shop, I figured
I might as well also see if I can find
any things that we can flip here for the
channel. Give you guys a little bit of
creative inspo for the season upon us,
which is fall. I'm going to be
decorating for my space very, very soon.
So, if you guys like to see a fall home
transformation, give this video a big
thumbs up. But we need to head to the
thrift store, see what we can find,
because who even knows what we're going
to be creating today. So, let's get
started.
Look how cool this laying lady is.
She's like a plaster or something.
Oh, even her. She's kind of cool in the
back, too. Oh, look at this scary sword.
This is one of those like dried out
cactuses
in lamp form. I think I found something
really cute to start. It's this
accordion little like holder. And I have
an idea. We might be able to strip this
and get the finish off and then paint a
cute little detail on this and make it
kind of folk art inspired. Kind of
reminds me of like a Swedish cabinet in
a sense. I don't know why. It looks like
little drawer poles on a cabinet. So, I
think it could be cute in like Swedish
folk art style. $7.99 and it has hangers
in the back.
This is actually a painted little
candalabra, which is kind of what I was
thinking for this. Not exactly like
this. This is a little too crazy, but
similar vibe.
I think I'm going to leave this for
something else, though.
This is kind of cool because it's just a
plywood, like pressed plywood table
frame. I think this could be a great
base for a DIY because we could micro
cement over the top of it, plaster it.
There's a lot of options. It's $15 and
it's a really nice little table. So, I'm
going to get this and we are going to
figure out what to do with it. How cool
are these here? There are little CD
holders, like mid-century style CD
holders. I love the feet on this. Um,
and it kind of if we were to remove all
of these slots here, it would basically
just be like a framework. And we
thought, what if we turned them into
like floor lights and did either maybe
some rice paper or plexiglass or
something in the front that would kind
of hide the bulb on the inside. We could
even like attach the bulb to the
backside like a long strip bulb. going
to be the matter of turning them into
lamps. And I think honestly much more
practical than CD holder.
[Music]
This right here is going to be our first
project that we're going to work on. I'm
actually very excited about this because
the fabrication that I want to do to
this is actually inspired from my recent
photo shoot that we did for my rugs.
There was two rooms that had this really
great burgundy like Roman clay
throughout the spaces and it was so
beautiful. I'll pop up some photos right
now. now and I was just admiring it the
days we were shooting there. And I want
to try to create something similar with
using some feather finish concrete and
then maybe going over the top of it with
a glossy sealer to basically give the
concrete a high gloss look. This is our
feather finish concrete. I picked this
up at Lowe's and this just comes in a
traditional kind of gray concrete color,
but I actually ended up ordering some
cement powder pigment online so that we
can color our concrete. So, I kind of
want to give it a burgundy look. I have
this dark brown, purple, and kind of
this red tone that we're going to mix up
with the concrete.
We have these three pigment options. And
so I think I'm going to go for this
reddish burgundy tone.
Ooh, can you see that? Probably about
like
maybe like that much.
Let's just do a whole concoction blend.
And then to brighten it up, why don't we
add this little red pigment?
It's a pretty color. It's like chocolate
frosting.
Okay. It definitely has like a little
purple tint to it. Can you tell with
this like purpley glass? Kind of looks
similar in tone. We have to go semi-
quickly with the process of our
concrete, which is this gorgeous shade
of like reddish purple at the moment. So
I am just going to start slapping this
on that pigment. I did not mix that
pigment very well.
[Music]
Ew, it smells like freaking fish.
Feather finish does quickly quickly dry.
It dries in about 15 minutes. So, I
actually had to bring in Justin so that
we can get this product on quicker
because I was going a little slow. It's
also hard to film and do these at the
same time. Justin's finishing up that
last side and I'm going to go in with
this dampened sponge to smooth
out any of these like peaks and smooth
out any crevices and cracks.
going.
[Music]
Our first coat is on the table. And
while that dries down, I'm going to
start working on our little wall hook.
And this is an accordion wall hook,
meaning that it opens and closes, which
is nice. I don't know if it like has a
purpose for being accordion. Like, is it
so you can store it away or I guess just
kind of like put it at whatever length
and width you want. But as you can see
as I shine this in the light, it has a
very thick kind of like a lacquered
yellow coat on it. So I want to spray on
top of this a QCS stripper which is
going to hopefully break down whatever
is on top of this and we can get some of
this finish off and then go in with some
painted accents. And I'm also going to
expand this probably to the fullest
width. That way when we paint on our
accents, it's not going to get chipped
as you're kind of accordioning it in and
out. So it's going to end up staying at
this width. I'm going to be using this
QCS finish remover. And honestly, with
stripping any finish, it is just hard.
It is long. It's time consuming. It's
tedious. But what is not all of those
things is ordering your mattress from
Helix. And if you are in the market for
a new mattress, you guys, I highly,
highly recommend Helix. They are the
sponsor of today's video. And I
genuinely love every facet of this
company. The quality of the product, the
assortment of the products that they
have, how quickly it comes to you, the
efficiency of it, how it comes packed in
a box. Truly, everything about Helix I
just absolutely adore. And I know
shopping for a mattress is a big step
and kind of an odd thing to do online.
However, Helix makes it super easy
because they have a sleep quiz and you
can actually answer a bunch of different
questions that it asks you and it pairs
you up with a perfect mattress for your
body type. And I've taken this quiz over
and over again over like the 5 years
I've been working with Helix and it's
always matched me up with the same exact
one, which is a Helix Midnight, the one
that I have myself. And with your new
mattress, you're actually going to get a
100 day sleep trial. Meaning, if it's
not for you, that is okay. They're going
to come pick that mattress right up. You
don't have to put it back in the box. I
honestly think you are going to love
your mattress so much. These are literal
comments from the Lone Fox family
themselves. So, it's not just me, all of
my family, and a majority of my friends
that have Helix mattresses that love
them. These are literal comments from
the Lone Fox family who have taken
recommendation from a video just like
this and got a Helix mattress and have
found out that they truly do love them
as well, which makes me so happy to
hear. And let's just say that you're not
in the market for a new mattress, but
you want to increase the comfort level
of your current mattress. Helix now
offers mattress toppers, which are super
cool because you don't have to invest in
that whole new mattress. You can just
pop this right over the top of a current
mattress to increase the comfort level.
And I also have to say Helix offers free
shipping within the US, a 10-year
warranty, and flexible payment plans and
financing options. And right now,
there's an extended Labor Day sale as
well, which means that you can save 27%
off sitewide, which is crazy. So, make
sure to click that link in the bio
because I think it's actually ending
very, very soon. So, you want to take
advantage of that while the sale last. I
brought this into the back room because
I thought it would be easier to film
this back here. But, as you saw when I
was at the thrift store, I actually came
across two of these CD racks, and I
thought they were super cool. I love the
shape of the leg on them. I like how
tall they are. They're super slender and
the grain on the side. It's like a nice
oak wood as well. Originally, the idea
was to actually remove all of these
dowels on the inside. Just kind of take
them all out and then apply some wood
strips on the inside of here and then
add like paper over the top of it like a
rice paper or something. When weaving
the fabric through the dowels. So, let's
get started. I actually ended up getting
some fabric at the fabric store this
morning and it's a nice linen kind of
like a see-through one. I thought I
could double it up if I needed to. We
actually have to install the light
first. So, the light that I'm using, I
ordered this on Amazon. It's actually an
under the kitchen cabinet light. So, if
you can imagine, this would go
underneath the kitchen cabinets. All I'm
going to have to do is drill a hole big
enough for this cord in the backside.
[Music]
And it's actually kind of nice because
the cords can tuck behind the dowels and
it's not like they need to be missing or
anything. So, I'm just going to go ahead
and add a few dots of glue. It looks
like they could span across three dowels
each. So, I'm going to make sure that I
add three dots of glue on each of the
dowels. And then
one there.
And these are super super light. So, the
hot glue is definitely going to hold
that in there.
Okay, let's plug it in and give a give a
test. Ooh,
looks kind of gorgeous, actually. It's a
nice kind of lightweight linen. You can
already see the light kind of shining
through there. So, I wanted it to be
something on the lighter side, which is
actually quite nice cuz it it kind of
highlights that edge. It's going to be a
little trial and error. cut a panel
that's the exact width of this opening
here and then cut another panel that's
about probably has an half of an inch of
seam allowance wider so I can fold it
over and sew it. Okay, this cutting clip
right here is sped up 20 times. I just
want to share with you how dull and bad
my scissors were. I was like laughing
and also crying this entire time of
cutting the strips. But you know what? I
did it and that is all that matters. I
was switching between three different
pairs of scissors. These ones ended up
working out the best. I just need to
invest in a good pair of fabric
scissors, but I end up always cutting
other things with the fabric scissors.
The panel underneath is wider than the
panel on top. So, I'm just going to iron
and press this over the top. And then
that's where we're going to stitch.
This is definitely a crucial step
because it's going to make sure that
when you go to sew, be really nice and
just clean. And then our front side is
going to be this side. Actually, this
gorgeous product here called Faultless
Luxe Finish Ironing Spray gives you a
really clean and crisp uh press whenever
you go in with your iron.
Feel like a stared shirt.
Yeah, a star shirt. If you could
imagine, I'm going to be sewing this
with a flap on the back side because I
want the stitch to look really nice
here. Kind of make sure that my stitch
is going right along the edge.
Here's
[Music]
our fabric panel. I actually have the CD
tower upside down currently. So, this is
the top of it cuz I want to hot glue
this right on the top lip here. It's raw
wood on the inside, which is perfect.
And then we could feed the rest of it
like through our light. Going to place
the outside of the fabric just right
down on top. That way when we go and
pull this up, it's going to look nice
and clean and like it's attached on the
inside and like it's a linen shade.
There's a few different ways that I can
actually put the fabric through. So, I
can kind of weave it through, which was
my original idea, but upon actually
trying that, I feel like it might not
look Oh, it actually kind of does look
better when I have it longer.
Ooh, look at that, you guys. Okay, so
here's option one. does have a little
bit of puckering, which I'm not loving.
Option two is just to like have it fully
inside where you can see all the
squares, which might alleviate some of
the puckering. Definitely kind of
streamlines it a little bit and almost
makes it look like a just like a strip
of fabric, which I think probably looks
a little better. Now, everyone keep in
mind when I turn this on, I might have
to do some adjustments still.
That looks pretty good. I think
[Music]
it off.
[Music]
Oh, yeah. It's definitely lighter in
there.
All that lacquer that's coming off.
That's sick.
[Music]
I think I mentioned earlier that I
figured out the best way to mix in the
pigment and it's actually to add the
pigment to your liquid first before
mixing that into the concrete. That way
the pigment is nice and liquefied and
then you can add your liquid into your
concrete mix. So, as you can see here,
I'm adding in our purple toned water and
mixing it all up. And this just made
sure that the concrete was all really,
really nice and mixed.
[Music]
There really is no rhyme or reason to
applying this concrete mixture. Uh
you're just going to want to make sure
that you get a nice even coat and that
you try to smooth down as much as you
can before then going in with your
sponge. And the sponge is what's going
to really kind of smooth down all of
those little peaks and crevices and
cracks and make sure that everything is
kind of cohesive and blended out in the
end.
[Music]
Oh my gosh, it is the next morning. Look
how good this looks. I love the finish
on this. It actually looks very
reminiscent to the wall finish at the
shoot I was talking about. Wow. I'm
going to put on the glossy sealer
though, which is going to intensify the
color a lot because right now it's just
like a raw concrete. It's also going to
add a protective layer and make this a
fully waterproof table. But this is
stunning. I really, really love the
color. Like, let me see if I can get in
a little closer for you guys.
[Music]
[Music]
All the finish is now off of our wooden
accordion hooks, which is great because
I actually was going to go through and
just hand paint the base of this. The
finish, however, wouldn't really come
off of the knobs. I got it off of this
one with a lot of work. So, I decided to
actually leave the finish on the knobs,
and I'm going to leave those wood. do
want to give this a base coat of spray
paint just cuz it's going to be way
easier than having to paint all of the
base by hand. So, I'm going to tape off
all of our knobs and then we can bring
this outside, spray paint it, and then
we can bring it back in and add all of
our painted details over top.
Repurposing the area I was concreting
the table in. That's why it is so dirty.
But, we do have some cardboard down.
Going to be using this spray paint here
called matte pale sage to give this a
nice coat.
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
Okay, I really like that. Actually, the
colors are really like popping together,
too. I love the kind of sienna color on
top of the blue tone. The reason I love
doing leaves when I paint when I ever do
any like painting projects like this is
cuz they're really forgiving and they're
not too challenging of a motif. And I
feel like they're always they always
look really cute, you know? Like you can
use that all the time. So
