There has been a raging battle over what the real iPhone 17 Pro design is gonna look like,
with leaks and rumors supporting this black camera bar redesign regardless of the color
options vs this all-aluminum unibody design where the camera bar features color-matched
aluminum.
So in this video, I'm gonna give you 8 reasons why the black glass camera bar is wrong, while
this design is almost certainly what will end up on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
Now getting into reason number 1, Mark Gurman recently said that the new iPhone 17 Pro design
will NOT be dramatically different and won't look like some of the renders out there where
you see a drastically different camera bar.
One detail he said is that perhaps the drastically different design is being delayed
until next year for the 20th anniversary iPhone.
Well, Jon Prosser and Sam Cole went on Genius Bar to discuss all of this
and they actually acknowledged the idea of their renders potentially being early,
with Apple having some prototypes out right now, but this design actually being delayed
until next year, and they also talked about the possibility of this being the actual design
like they showed on their thumbnail and we might actually be getting that.
Now getting into reason number 2 for why the camera bar will not be all black glass,
well, glass breaks, and right now, for a long time, Apple has been using sapphire
for their camera lenses to basically make them stronger and less prone to scratches
that could ruin your camera's photos and video.
Well, having this entire section be sapphire glass would be way too expensive,
it would not be financially worth it, and of course if it's regular glass,
it's gonna end up getting scratched up like crazy and it's gonna look bad
and there's gonna be a lot of cases of cracked glass repairs.
Now for reason number 3, Jon Prosser said that he saw models of the iPhone 17 Pro
with different colors, but all of them had black glass camera bars.
And in my personal opinion, I think that Apple would lose their iconic
triangular camera bump design look if it was all glass.
I mean, this has been known since iPhone 11.
When you see this design, you know it's an iPhone, and the issue with having it be all black
is that when it's in the dark or in dark lighting, the cameras become too hard to see
like in these renders where you can barely notice it, it just looks like a huge black rectangle.
It would actually make sense to instead have the camera rings themselves be all black
like in these renders, which adds a nice little contrasty touch
and makes the cameras themselves look bigger and better,
sort of like what Samsung did on the S25 Ultra, but instead actually looking really nice.
Now moving on to reason number 4, if you look at the very first
design renders that we got from a few months back,
they claimed that the iPhone would have a two-toned design with aluminum on the upper half
and glass on the bottom to support wireless charging.
Now they weren't very specific, but it ended up being pretty much exactly what we're seeing
with these new renders of an entire aluminum unibody design at the top,
including the camera bar, while the glass window is on the bottom.
And I think that if the original plan was to have a camera bar that's glass,
then they wouldn't have worded it like they did, saying the top half would be aluminum.
I believe that they were right from the get-go, and I think this design just makes sense.
Now for number 5, we have these aluminum dummy models, which if you look closely,
look much more like a unibody aluminum camera bar compared to having metal
black glass insert in the camera.
Taking a closer look, you can see a perfectly seamless transition
from the edge of the phone up into the camera bar, which fits all of the leaks.
And you can actually see a little etched line for where the aluminum meets the glass insert
for MagSafe, and all of this fits the original rumors and reports.
Now if the iPhone 17 Pro design were to have a black glass insert,
there would've likely been some sort of thin etched line right on this edge
to show where the glass would be inserted into.
Or if not, it would be right on the edge of the curve,
but then that would make it even more fragile.
Now getting into number 6, a unibody aluminum camera bar is
the only way that actually improves functionality for Apple,
because there were many rumors for months ago that said that the unibody design
would work sort of like a MacBook, where you have a solid block of aluminum,
and it's etched from the inside out, giving Apple a bunch of internal space to work with.
So if Apple does the same thing on the iPhone like the rumors are saying,
taking a full block of aluminum and etching it from the display side,
Apple would technically have all of this extra space on the inside for internal parts,
like let's say the new 48MP tetraprism telephoto camera that's supposed to be even bigger,
well that would allow even more space to fit that larger camera module,
as well as the flash, the microphone, the lidar, all of that would be pushed more towards the back,
giving Apple more internal space, maybe even enough space to slide the logic board
right behind all of those components, making even more room for a bigger battery.
However, if this camera bump were fully glass, then all that space would essentially be wasted
since they etched the glass from the back, and a lot of the glass ends up getting wasted,
and it doesn't add to any extra internal space.
Now for number 7, so many of the leaked CAD files that we have online
show off this little section for MagSafe, as well as this perfect,
seamless transition from the aluminum sides to the aluminum camera bar.
Now if you look at all the previous CADs like we had for the iPhone 16 lineup,
all of them showed a distinct cutout and lines around the edge for where the metal sides hit
the glass back, but you don't see any of that on the iPhone 17 Pro CADs.
They all show a seamless, unibody aluminum design.
And finally, for number 8, if we take a look at the M4 iPad Pro, you'll see something very
interesting. They have moved from having a glass camera bump for many years,
to a fully aluminum camera bump just on this new M4 iPad Pro model.
And many times, Apple's iPad Pro gives us a little sneak peek
at upcoming design changes that they have for future products.
Like for example, 120hz ProMotion came to the iPad Pro first,
and then transitioned to the iPhone and then the MacBooks.
Tandem OLED also came to the iPad Pro last year, and it's now rumored to come
to the MacBook Pro next year. We also just got a super thin design on the M4 iPad Pro,
and Mark Gurman has said that Apple plans to bring that same
thin design language to all of their products, including MacBooks and iPhones,
like we're seeing with the iPhone 17 Air.
So I believe that the new M4 iPad Pro having an aluminum camera bump
was actually a sneak peek at the iPhone 17 lineup with a fully aluminum camera bar
across both the Pro and the Pro Max, and the new Air as well.
So there you guys go, those were 8 reasons for why I believe
the iPhone 17 Pro camera design will be color matched aluminum, and not inserted black glass.
