Hey everyone, it's eight o'clock in the morning here in Hong Kong
and I'm about to get some breakfast at a cha chan teng. We have the Lok Tin Cafe
and what drew me in was all these buns in the window. Now these are all priced in Hong Kong
dollars. Currently the exchange rate is $7.77 Hong Kong dollars for one US dollar.
We got some people cooking in the back.
Here's their breakfast menu. Kind of looks like a western breakfast to me but you'd be surprised
because here you can choose instant noodles for your breakfast. You won't find that in a
western breakfast menu or macaroni. Instead you'll find french toast, scrambled eggs.
Well this is a dinner menu or a lunch but good thing is they have English here rather
than this one here on the table which is all in Chinese. Let me tell you they are fast here.
Hong Kong runs at a pace that I don't expect. This one is mine, the satay beef noodle for 40 Hong Kong
dollars. That's $5.14. I got a Hong Kong milk tea and here in Hong Kong everything is on the side.
Your utensils, napkins, knives, toothpicks, everything. All right we're having instant
noodles for breakfast. Just got some Danish bread and scrambled egg. They said Danish bread but it
looks like french toast. All right everyone $5 breakfast here in Hong Kong. Unbelievable.
This is enough for lunch too and the milk tea is included in the price. 40 Hong Kong, $5 for all
this. Unbelievable. Well let's dig in here. Kind of reminds me of beef teriyaki with a texture.
Not bad. A little bit spicy. Kind of soft the meat and there is some kind of like powder
in here. It's very strong this beef satay. Let's try these instant noodles.
Actually better than you expect.
I know a lot of people frown on instant noodles but sometimes they can be good
especially if they're flavored well and Hong Kong knows how to do it.
I mean I think this is a good dish but to be honest with you this isn't really my style. It's
kind of strange to be having instant noodles for breakfast. Let's try authentic Hong Kong milk tea
now. I'm not gonna add any sugar or anything to this. I think they did have some like sugar and
condiments on the side but I'm not gonna add it just yet. We'll just have it straight how they made
Whoa this Hong Kong milk tea hits different. I've had Hong Kong style milk tea in New York but
to be honest the ones I've had there were kind of watered down and bland. This one is a little
bit deeper and a little bit bitter too. This is much better. Much better than the ones I've had
in New York. Yeah this is good Hong Kong milk tea. I mean if you don't like the bitterness
of this you could add some sugar but I don't think you really need it. Now for french toast
or danish toast with scrambled eggs. Kind of weird to be eating this with a chopstick though but
let me get a knife from the side. I guess Hong Kong they don't mind switching between utensils
for breakfast whether it's fork and knife or chopsticks for the instant noodles but
let's start off with the egg. It looks very orange to me. I'm not sure if these are real
eggs or not. They could be like the powdered eggs that they get from the package.
They might be powdered eggs there. I feel a little bit of something in here
and it's very runny too. It's not like cooked all the way. I don't really see any burn marks on it.
Decent eggs though. Let's try this danish toast. Looks like there's a melted butter on it already.
I guess you could pick up this toast too and eat it but
you won't find any maple syrup on this toast.
Pretty good. You know I can see why they call it danish toast because it doesn't really have
that mushiness that a french toast has where it drowns all the syrup in. This one the butter just
kind of melts in the bread itself and it's a really surprising breakfast item. I like it.
I like it better than this. Wow folks, Hong Kong is really surprising me so far. My first breakfast
here and all this for five dollars and change. Great value and this place is definitely getting
two thumbs up from me. Definitely check this place out. I mean I know Hong Kong places they
like to open late but not this place. You can come bright and early get a meal like this for five
bucks and yeah it's awesome.
