All right, I've got a new project that I want to get started this week. I want to build a storage
bench for the cabin and it's going to give me a chance to use this new tool that I got,
which is like a template and it allows you to set up your studs at exactly 16 inch on center
intervals. So I want to give this thing a chance, see how it works, and I'm going to use it
while I'm making my bench. So let's get to it. All right, I want this bench to be
80 inches long, 16 inches high, and 24 inches deep. So what I want to do is grab the
best side of these two by fours, or the best end, and I want to cut off the other one.
And I've already identified this to be the best side, so let me measure that off.
Once I got the length of my top and bottom plate measured out, it was a piece of cake from there.
All right, I got my front and my back built, and it's 16 inches high. So now I need to get my
end pieces here built, and since I've got to subtract seven inches for the two, the front
and the back of the wall, I need to make these 17 inches deep. All right, I've got two more pieces
of scrap two by four here, and I need four 17-inch boards. Let me see how many I can get out of here.
Ah, just an inch short. I can only get one. See how many I can get here.
Okay, I can get three out of this one, so I can get all the ones that I need. Go ahead and get those
cut.
Okay, here I'm using a self-centering drill bit just to make sure that I get all of my holes
drilled in the center of the hinge. It helps keep the hinge from twisting when you screw it in,
you know, if your holes aren't centered, and it makes it so you don't hear any squeaking
slat box. So that's the next step here. Let me go ahead and get that going, and then I can get
my slats installed. All right, this is going to be a little tricky because this is vertical
because it's already attached, but I'll do what I can. That wasn't too bad.
Okay, so I went ahead and cut all of my slats to length, and these are from an Ikea full bed. I
just cut them in half, and now I'm just going to sand them to get all the burrs off.
All right, I got all my slats installed, and the reason why I've got this held together with these
clamps is because this won't fit in the bed of my truck put together, so each of these pieces are
not put together. I'm going to have to put this together back at the cabin. So I'll have all my
storage in here. I'll have a nice cushion here, so it'll be a comfortable place to sit,
and it might actually be wide enough to be used as a guest bed. I don't know. We'll see about that,
but this is going to provide a lot of storage and a lot of seating. So it's six feet long,
two feet deep, so that's going to do it for this video. I'll talk to you guys later.
