Доброе утро. Good morning. Добро пожаловать на мой канал. Welcome back to Russian with Nastya.
Как у вас дела сегодня? How are you today?
У меня нормально. I'm okay.
The word of the day is...
Так.
The word of the day is... It's a verb.
Желать. Давайте напишем. Let's write it down.
Желать.
Переведите на английский. Translate to English.
Привет.
Желать. What is желать? Translate to English.
Желать.
To wish. Правильно. To wish.
To wish. Хорошо. Дальше. So, let's begin. Today we're going to talk about
10 grammar mistakes my students make all the time.
And mistake number one is... Let's write it down. We'll write a sentence
down. And the mistake I will write... Okay, the kids were playing with my
markers yesterday. So, I'm going to
write the mistake in English. Then we are going to translate it
and to see what is the issue.
Оливия. This one is in Russian.
Оливия is Spanish.
Оливия is Spanish. So, here is the mistake.
The nationalities. Some of the nationalities
are not so easy to memorize. So, Оливия is Spanish.
Оливия in Russian we don't have is. We don't use is.
So, just a nationality. Who knows how to...
How will be Spanish in Russian? Spanish feminine.
Because Оливия is a woman. So, we have to use the
nationality in feminine. Оливия. Who knows? Write in chat.
Оливия.
Испанка in Russian. Испанка.
Испанка. Usually my students
make a mistake such as Оливия испанский. Испанский is a Spanish language.
Or Оливия Испания and so on. So, the correct word is
Испанка. Оливия Испанка. So, we take the word Испания.
Испания is Spain in Russian. Испания.
Is Spain. To form a nationality we replace two last letters with
if it's a woman and
if it's a man.
Usually we do that. Some of the nationalities
are exceptions. So, we have just to learn them, to memorize them.
So, Испанец. Испанец is a Spanish man.
So, we replaced Ия with Ец and Испанка is a Spanish woman.
So, we replaced Ия with Ка. Usually these are the endings for
nationality but not in all the cases. For example,
French woman is Француженка.
Totally different. So, you have just to memorize this word.
And French man is Француз. We don't use Ец anymore.
So, this was the first mistake with nationalities.
I have a video with all the nationalities and how to form
the nationality. I think I made it one or two weeks ago so
you can look for it on my channel. Mistake number two.
Mistake is Ошибка in Russian. Ошибка номер два
is when we have to use the genitive case.
When we say that we are from and a country or he is from
and a country you have to use the genitive case.
If you in English you just say she is from Spain.
Spain doesn't change. In Russian, Spain will be changed.
You have to make it genitive. So, let's see an example.
For example, он, he, он from Russia.
From Russia. He is from Russia.
He is from Russia. Nominative for Russia is Россия.
So, you have to change this word from nominative to genitive.
And if you don't know how to use the genitive case,
watch my video with genitive case. Россия from Russia is
When you see this preposition, that means that the next noun will be in genitive case.
Is Россия changed to genitive will be Россия.
Он is Россия. He is from Russia.
So, Россия from nominative becomes in genitive России.
Он из России. He is from Russia.
Eric not with e-short. Simple e here.
This one is stressed. This is stressed.
Из России. From Russia.
So, this is a very common mistake.
So, learn the genitive case to not do this mistake.
To not make this mistake.
Ошибка номер три. Mistake number three.
Her name is...
Her name...
Her name is...
Let's say, Вероника.
Her name is Вероника.
So, here the issue is with her.
Sometimes I hear НЕЁ instead of ЕЁ.
ЕЁ will be the correct way to say her in this context.
ЕЁ.
Name is...
In Russian, we say they call her literally ЕЁ зовут.
Зовут.
They call her Вероника.
So, here it's not НЕЁ.
It's not ОНА.
It's ЕЁ.
ЕЁ зовут Вероника.
So, usually the issue is with ЕЁ.
With feminine.
Her.
Her name is Вероника.
Let's continue.
Mistake number four.
For example, if you don't know a word in English,
and you want to ask...
You don't know a word in Russian,
and you want to ask somebody to translate you this word from English.
How do you say ПО-РУССКИ salary?
How do you say...
So, the issue is with this phrase.
How do you say ПО-РУССКИ in Russian?
ПО-РУССКИ
For example, the word salary.
Salary.
You don't know this word,
and you want to ask your Russian friend or your teacher
to tell you how will be in Russian this word salary.
How do you say ПО-РУССКИ salary?
So, the issue is with this phrase here.
How do you say ПО-РУССКИ salary?
It's very easy.
How do you say...
It's just КАК.
That's all.
КАК
Then we will continue.
ПО-РУССКИ
КАК ПО-РУССКИ salary.
And salary is ЗАРПЛАТА.
In Russian.
Salary.
КАК ПО-РУССКИ salary.
And the answer is ЗАРПЛАТА.
So, if you want to ask your teacher or your friend
the word that you don't know in Russian,
Спасибо при этом.
Are there any dictionaries in Russian?
I don't know.
I...
Usually, I checked in Wikipedia
when I need this information,
but I will look into it.
КАК ПО-РУССКИ salary.
And the answer is ЗАРПЛАТА.
КАК ПО-РУССКИ salary.
ЗАРПЛАТА.
Here I have heard a lot of incorrect sayings.
Just use КАК.
КАК ПО-РУССКИ salary.
Хорошо, пойдем дальше.
Mistake number 5.
ОШИБКА номер 5.
ПЯТЬ.
Майкл говорит...
Майкл...
ГОВОРИТ...
German.
So, Michael speaks German.
No, no, no.
No, КАК НАЗЫВАЕТСЯ is not good.
It's incorrect.
This is why I put it here in this list of mistakes.
Because this is wrong.
Don't ask like that.
Just КАК ПО-РУССКИ and the word.
That's all.
Да?
Так, окей.
Майкл говорит German.
Here my students make mistakes with the...
when they want to say...
to speak in a language.
That someone speaks this language or I speak this language.
Майкл говорит German.
Who knows the answer?
Майкл говорит...
WINDRUS.
Good, but don't forget about the line between ПА and НЕМЕЦКИЙ.
Сейчас я напишу.
Don't forget about this line here.
Michael speaks German.
And so on.
So don't forget to use ПО.
Again, genitive case.
Natasha is from...
Natasha is from Kyiv.
Kyiv.
In English, nothing happens with the word Kyiv, right?
In Russian, you have to change it to genitive case.
You have to do something with it.
Natasha is from Kyiv.
Natasha is...
You have this preposition here.
And you know that the next...
the following noun will be in genitive case.
Kyiv.
Also, genitive case answers the question...
Where from?
Natasha is Kyiv.
To make a noun genitive, when this noun is masculine...
Kyiv is masculine because it ends in a consonant.
Just add А to it to make it genitive.
Is Kyiva.
Kyiva.
Natasha is Kyiva.
So, Natasha is Kyiva.
Да, супер.
Пойдём дальше.
Ошибка номер семь.
Number seven.
Mistake number seven.
Do you...
Again.
По-немецки, по-английски.
In German, in English.
Do you...
Here, sometimes, the issue with the verb conjugation.
You don't know what to use.
We or ты.
But very important.
When you just met a person,
you are not friends with this person.
This is not your family member.
You have to speak with this person in a formal way.
Don't say ты говоришь.
I know that in English it's something normal to speak in an informal way.
In Russian, you have to use вы always.
Вы, formal.
Вы говорите по-английски.
So, here we have вы.
You just met this person.
You can't say ты.
Вы говорите по-английски.
Do you speak English?
So, no ты.
Mistake number eight.
When you heard the word in Russian
and you want to ask what this word means.
Again.
In English.
For example, let's take a Russian word.
How do we say in Russian in English?
What are we going to say here?
In English, капуста.
Капуста is cabbage.
So, the answer is cabbage.
No, not значит.
But thank you, Rea.
You pointed out the most common mistake.
Not значит.
No, there is no значит.
Don't use it.
That's all.
Just use как.
That's all.
What is капуста in English?
And the answer is a cabbage.
Let's continue.
Two more mistakes and we are done.
Now, we are going to talk about nationalities in masculine.
So, we had Испанка.
Оливия Испанка is a Spanish girl.
Now, let's talk about nationalities in masculine.
For masculine.
For men.
Нет.
No.
Нет.
Я Canadian.
Canadian.
Нет.
Я Canadian.
So, I'm from Canada.
I'm of Canadian nationality.
Нет.
Я and Canadian in Russian.
This one is according to the rule.
So, the ending is according to the rule.
It's not an exception.
How do you say a Canadian man in Russian?
It's канадец.
Канадец.
Нет.
Я канадец.
The same with the normal Japanese.
Нет.
Я японец.
Японец with yes as well.
Я японец.
But it doesn't work with all the nationalities.
Some of them you have to memorize to learn it by heart.
Канадец.
Нет.
Я канадец.
For example, a Frenchman is Француз.
Француз.
You have just to learn this one by heart.
Just memorize that.
It's Француз.
Француз.
Китаец.
Chinese is with yes too.
Китаец.
Француз is an exception.
Then русский.
For example, Russian.
It's an exception too.
Russian man is русский.
Русский.
Without yes at the end.
Okay.
Хорошо.
Пойдем дальше.
Let's continue.
И последняя ошибка.
And the last mistake is
номер 10.
Ошибка номер 10.
