When a buddy invited me along on a moto camping trip to a TOP SECRET dispersed camping spot just off Route 1 of the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route, I said yes almost immediately. This was my first out of state motorcycle camping trip and my first time riding or camping in Washington state. The motorcycle road trip to get there took us on I-84 through the Columbia Gorge and eventually over the famous Bridge of the Gods. This steel grate bridge spans the width of the Columbia River and provided us with some amazing views of the Gorge and surrounding areas as we crossed. Afterward, we followed along the Washington BDR until we turned down an abandoned logging road toward our secret motocamping spot. This was an amazing place for dispersed camping, right next to a creek and incredibly secluded and off the beaten path. These are my absolute favorite types of moto camping destinations. After setting up camp, we enjoyed some beverages, ate dehydrated meals for dinner (I did not enjoy mine AT ALL), hung out with friends, discussed the nearby wildlife including the famous Pacific Northwest Sea to Summit Manta Ray, enjoyed a Mr. Puff Puff, and basically had a great time chatting and hanging out around the fire pit. (no fires due to fire season restrictions, but Beards provided a great campfire alternative for us to enjoy). This was a fantastic Africa Twin Motorcycle Camping trip with great friends and a fantastic ride and destination. I hope you enjoy this motocamping trip video!
Today I'm going motocamping at a secret spot.
Hopefully we don't, like, fall through and die.
Holy s**t, I looked down.
Magical fellas.
What a bunch of clumsy lummoxes is what we are.
Look at that milking technique, it's just gushing out.
He'll sedate them and send them across the country in a box.
If I was in prison and they served me this, I would definitely know I was in prison.
Beards was almost killed just now.
Beautiful.
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Dork Side.
I'm the Dork in the Road and today I'm going motocamping at a secret spot near the Washington
BDR with our friends McLovin and Beards Bikes and Camping.
I'm the Dork in the Road and I want to be your internet riding buddy, so please consider
subscribing for more dual sport, adventure bike shenanigans, reviews, and basically all
kinds of crazy content.
McLovin is on his way over.
We're going to take our Africa Twins up to Portland to meet Beards Bikes and Camping.
He's going to join us and show us the route to his secret spot.
So we are going to go out I-84, so you're going to get to see the gorge.
We're going to go over the Bridge of the Gods, which is a steel grate bridge over the Columbia
River which is only mildly terrifying to me, but supposedly it's beautiful views, so hopefully
we don't fall through and die.
And hit up part of section one of the Washington BDR.
Go to the secret spot for an overnight camp with some friends, some Africa Twins, and
no campfire because, as you know, the west is on fire and so I'd be surprised if we're
allowed to have campfires again before October.
So this will be my first out of state moto camping trip and my first out of state moto
camping trip video, obviously.
So thanks for coming along.
Hope you enjoy it.
Hey, good morning.
Look who's here.
McLovin's here.
It's time to get out.
Get on the road.
What do you think, bro?
I'm ready.
Alright.
Did you bring enough stuff?
Yeah, you know, I don't know.
I don't see a sink sticking out anywhere, so I guess you didn't bring everything.
No toilet.
Oh, what the f...
That's all I needed.
I got water.
I got my little cooler.
Oh, Mille Waffes, which is Algonquin for the good land.
If you understand that reference, put it in the comments.
I'll give you a virtual high five.
There he is, the man himself.
This is not an ugly rest stop.
No, this is a pretty nice spot.
Thank you.
That's so cool.
The guy in front of us, Neil Gray.
Don't look down.
Oh my goodness.
Holy...
Should I look down?
Don't do that.
We're here in Stevenson.
We're in Washington, officially, so we're going to pay some sales tax on some sustenance,
delicious beverages, probably some snacks and gas.
We're doing it.
This is my first BBR experience here right now, this very moment.
We're on the BBR, and we are Beard, Dork, and Ryan.
BBR, baby.
Nailed it.
Baby turkeys.
It is a wild turkey.
There's another one.
Oh, I almost killed it.
Did you?
Oh, yeah.
He was right off the side of the road.
Oh, yeah.
That exhaust sounds so great.
It is good.
Nathan, send me the coordinates.
Because he's a BBR route master.
You've got it now.
I was just thinking it's nice the grass isn't so dry that I'm concerned about hitting it
with my exhaust and ****.
Right.
Because technically, we're not supposed to do that.
Ow!
Fun little section.
Just about there.
So, this is just dead end, and it takes a little bit to get turned around.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
You three-point it.
That makes me feel better.
No, I was going to crank her hard and give her the beat.
Yep.
You haven't even seen the cool part yet.
I've got to see the bike though.
This is my favorite kind of campsite, dude.
You just have to know they're here.
Clean water creek right there.
Wow.
This is well-hidden.
I've been up here several times, and the only tracks I've ever seen up here are mine from
the previous visit.
Wow.
Beautiful.
Magical, fellas.
Not terrible.
Dive in, buddy.
We're here at camp.
McLevins here.
Hello!
Beards is here.
Heya!
And I got all my crap out because I just filmed a video for Giant Loop about how much stuff
you can fit in the round the worlds, but look at how much stuff you can fit in the round
the worlds.
It's a lot of stuff.
So, I love these panniers.
They're great.
And, you know, they're not paying me to say that in this video.
In this video, I'm not getting paid to say that.
So, this is just off section one of the Washington BDR.
What a beautiful, amazing place to spend the evening with friends.
How was your tent already set up?
I guess it was in the time I spent filming that video.
So, Beards took the best spot and already set up his tent.
Got a creek.
Beautiful creek.
Bubbling brook.
Babbling brook.
It's not bubbling.
It's babbling.
I need to unpack and get camp set up before all the good spots are gone.
Beautiful here.
Secluded.
We are, you know, you saw the road we came down, so no one's going to bother us here
tonight.
Big shout out to Team Jerseys Pro.
They sent me this really awesome custom Dork in the Road jersey.
See Dork in the Road.
This is my favorite part.
It's the logo on the sleeve and then on the back, Dork.
And if you remember the video for the Lovin' Knobs and McLovin' here, the hard part here
is when it gets this short, are you filming this, I could set my beard on fire at any
moment.
Oh, jeez.
Plus, the bourbon on my breath.
It's like difficulty degree of like 32 on a scale of whatever.
1 to 32.
Best night ever.
32%.
What does that even mean?
That joke just persisted in my mind, so that's why I'm number 32.
But check out their site.
The custom work, it came fast and it's actually really nice.
I'm kind of impressed with it.
And it's teamjerseyspro.com.
Use promo code Dork to save 10%.
I'll put a link in the description.
Pretty happy with this thing.
I carried it all the way up the BDR just so I could show it to you in the habitat that
I thought it would showcase best in.
Thanks guys for the jersey.
I will wear it with pride.
Sorry about the blinding sun behind us.
I think we're just going to have to deal with it for a little while.
It's going to be down soon enough, but it's delicious beverage time.
We're all set up.
McLovin' and I are over there.
Beards is wisely far from both of us because we both snore.
McLovin' is making himself a delicious beverage.
I actually got resealable beers because I can put the lid on and walk away.
I know that my beer will not be co-opted or more terrifyingly added to.
You can read into that whatever you want.
I thought you were going to say knocked over.
I mean, look who you're camping with.
That's the most likely scenario.
Yeah, we're a bunch of clumsy lummoxes is what we are.
So you got to seal your beer so it doesn't get spilled.
There's no shenanigans in this group.
Are you kidding me?
Shenanigan free.
It's been many days since our last shenanigan.
Our boy, our boy, our boy Beards.
Yes.
Take two.
I haven't even had that much.
I've literally had two beers and this much of this one.
My boy Beards.
It's too many Bs.
It's too alliterative.
I can't.
My boy, no, our boy Beards has generously shared his delicious Bowie cream ale.
It even looks like cream ale.
The color is very like cream soda-y almost.
What a guy.
What a cool guy to share.
What a cool spot.
Thank you for bringing us here.
Thank you to Chris and Nathan, who are the ones that shared the location with Travis
in the first place.
What's this guy doing?
He's flashing me.
I'm giving you more light because the lighting in here sucks.
What kind of a camper brings a freaking giant, oh, all of us.
We all bring lighting and cameras and garbage.
You are the sun.
You're my sun and stars, Beards.
So this is a kick-ass spot.
It's beautiful here.
The water is beautiful, and we're so excited to have camp set up.
The worst part of camping is over.
Well, second worst.
I think the worst is packing up.
We're into the chilling and hanging out phase and enjoying some beverages, and McLevin brought
a whole snack pantry, so he's been sharing his chips and candy, and I ate a turkey sandwich.
It's just payback for all the times you've made my dinner for me.
That's true.
I'm the only one that ever cooks camping, and I could hear, he asked me, he goes, what
are you doing for dinner?
And I said, I'm bringing him out now because we can't have a fire.
And somehow through text message, I could feel his disappointment.
He suddenly realized not only was there no fire, but he was not going to get any extra
of whatever I was cooking.
The chuck wagon was closed.
Yeah.
Sorry.
The mess hall is closed.
And then he's like, well, I guess I'll go to the store afterwards.
I could feel it.
He's like, oh, okay.
You're not going to be cooking.
So you should subscribe to Beards Bikes of Camping if you haven't already.
You saw him in the Ben trip video.
McLevin, you should subscribe to McLevin.
He's so cool.
He has his name on his shirt.
That's right.
That's how you know he's good.
Says the guy wearing a giant shirt that says dork in the road across it right now.
We are not branding ourselves at all.
All right.
McLevin.
Yes.
McLevin has captured himself a Pacific Northwest green manta ray, and he's going to demonstrate
the proper technique for milking it.
Because if you're not careful, well, bad things can happen.
As we discovered when we talked about our friend, Pacific Northwest Steve Irwin.
May he rest in peace.
Look at that milking technique.
It's just gushing out.
This guy is unbelievably good at milking the Pacific Northwest manta ray.
And here's the thing.
That's only so fertile and so full of liquid because there's another one over in the tree.
There's a mating pair.
They're not fertile when there's only one, when they're single, there has to be a mating
pair.
Where did we, where did those come from?
From Motocamp Nerd.
That's right.
Motocamp Nerd.
Domesticated.
He actually has a farm where he grows them and ships them, he ships them cross country.
Yeah, he farms the manta rays and then he'll sedate them and send them across the country
in a box.
Once you drain them completely, they go into a hibernation.
And until you fill them back up, they are, they're pretty useless.
The trick is you gotta just come in and be gentle with it.
Establish that you're not a threat and then gently, ever so gently extract the liquid
refreshment, the juice, the milk.
We're lucky this one has nested so low in the tree.
It's much easier to get to.
I often have to reach over my head.
On the menu tonight, chicken fried rice.
I carefully prepared this at home and then freeze dried it.
Oh s***.
You know what you don't want to cook?
What?
The packet?
Yeah.
That does not taste good.
Okay, it's time for my first bite of delicious chicken fried rice.
Thanks Mountain House.
Made in Albany, Oregon, my hometown.
Pretty mushy, steamy, but you know what?
It's dinner.
It smells like fried rice.
Yeah, that's good.
That's actually everything.
That chicken tastes like wet bread.
I'm not sure if that was chicken or wet bread.
I'm 100% not sure.
It's like someone sprinkled soy sauce on bread.
The teriyaki I had was way better than this.
This is edible, but I wouldn't call it good.
I'm gonna let that sit for a minute and then I will enjoy the rest of it.
The best tasting thing here is this spoon.
Please don't choke to death.
You just about made me spit my food all over you.
This chicken is the spongiest d*** chicken.
Like on what continent does that look like chicken?
I'm not sponsored by Mountain House, I don't know if you could tell.
Mmm, this is the best meal I've had all day that wasn't from a restaurant or at home.
If I was in prison and they served me this, I would definitely know I was in prison.
The other one I had was good.
I'm not a fan of this one.
Yeah.
Maybe those are supposed to be egg chunks.
These smaller things are chicken chunks and the big spongy things are eggs.
I guess.
They're not eggs.
Yeah.
That was definitely chicken.
Okay.
So I misspoke.
I apologize Mountain House.
The eggs taste like spongy a** bread.
The chicken tastes like what a person who's never had chicken might think chicken tastes like.
Like if we described the flavor of chicken to someone who'd never had chicken, they would
make whatever this is and give it back to you.
Okay, I'm going to stop talking this meal and just finish it.
Not two thumbs up.
My favorite time of the evening is Mr. Puff Puff time.
You know, and we call him Mr. Puff Puffs because a thousand years ago I got demonetized on
one video for calling it what it's called.
My daughter called it Mr. Puff Puff.
She suggested that and that's what we call it now.
I'm thinking about a shirt, a Mr. Puff Puff shirt.
Actually let me know if you guys would be interested in this because I'm thinking it
would be hilarious to have like a cartoon character of like a cartoon cigar and it
just says Mr. Puff Puff.
Like an anthropomorphic, yes that's a word that English majors like me use, anthropomorphic
cigar like chilling like, and it just says Mr. Puff Puff and it's a shirt.
I just want that for myself.
It's a Rocky Patel cargo, the ones I got from Cigar Bid.
They're fine.
I got a good deal on them so I like them.
Holy s**t.
We got branches falling.
Beards was almost killed just now.
A stick fell within six feet of him.
Way to kill the suspect.
Within?
It could be even closer.
Mr. Puff Puffs are gross and disgusting habit.
Don't do them even though they're really cool.
The beers are gone so there's only one thing to do.
Enjoy some delicious bourbon.
Here's to out of the way places and good friends.
Here's to secret spots and the others who know about them.
Here's to not sharing your spots with randos, only with close friends that you can go there
with and make sure that they don't screw it up.
Our fourth has arrived.
We made it.
There he is.
Found a nice spot.
I told you.
What did I tell you?
That's Ben.
That's Ryan.
That's our stork on the road.
That's McLaren Moto.
Nice to meet you guys.
Nice to meet you man.
It's ADV with Roscoe.
Check that out.
And there's an ugly sticker above it but what are you going to do?
Do I smell cigars?
Oh yeah.
Well it's because I'm smoking one.
Obviously fire season is going so we're not allowed to have a fire.
But Beards has got it covered.
There's also a gorilla here in the woods.
I don't know if you caught that.
We're not even going to notice we can't have a fire with this innovative and amazing solution.
So warm.
I'm going to have to stand farther back.
Man the smoke is following me.
It's beautiful.
Perfect.
I come to camp to get away from the technology and really just unplug.
Not me.
So you know there's nothing going on.
ADV with Roscoe here saw the same turkeys.
He saw the turkeys I almost hit.
Yeah.
And I almost hit them.
Yeah.
They just like to run out in front of bikes.
Alright here I am in the tent with a mosquito.
I have a recently deceased mosquito on my hand.
Great night hanging out with McLovin, Beards and ADV with Roscoe coming in clutch at the
last minute.
Make sure you check out McLovin's video.
Check out Beards' video.
And hey, you know, maybe if you like adventures like this give this video a like and leave
a comment or something.
I don't know.
That could be fun.
Subscribe.
Maybe even subscribe if you want to go crazy.
Hopefully I didn't drink too much.
I got real hungover last time I went camping and I'd like to not be tomorrow.
So I'll catch up with you guys in the morning.
Thanks for coming along so far.
And I will see you in a few hours.
I usually enjoy anything.
Whatever the tighter weave.
Yeah.
The tighter pattern.
Squares.
Yeah.
I used to think they were pretentious.
Then I got one and now it just makes sense.
It's funny how that works.
Yeah.
Delicious Jetboil French Press coffee.
I cooked these steaks in one of my videos.
I slept okay.
That's the thing with camping is it's like you sleep in two hour shifts.
I always just wake up a bunch.
McLovin's snoring didn't bother me too much.
Which is good because our tents are right next to each other.
But soothing sounds of the creek.
And now everyone is doing their various breakfast thing and talking to their various cameras.
Cheers.
Good morning.
Thanks for coming along with us.
We're probably going to start packing up here in a minute.
The worst part of camping, my least favorite part of camping is packing up.
But at least you guys get to watch it and fast forward.
I wish I had that button in real life.
Thanks for camping with us.
Thanks for sharing the spot.
Go subscribe to Beard's channel.
The Beard is right here in case you forget.
Any final thoughts or pearls of wisdom you'd like to share with us?
Thanks for coming up here and hanging out on the Washington BDR.
With me.
We need to find more campsites like this.
And then film no one.
And share it with nobody.
That's right.
Charles, great to meet you.
Nice meeting you.
Yeah, nailed it.
Make sure that you're subscribed to A2B with Roscoe.
Check out his channel.
Any final thoughts or amazing pearls of wisdom for us?
No, hey, this is a great spot.
Great meeting you guys.
And let's get home safely.
What do you think, man?
Had a great time.
This is an awesome spot.
Super secluded.
Subscribe to this guy, too.
Links to all these guys in the description.
Alright, y'all.
I'm going to get back on the bike.
Well, put my gear on first, probably.
Get back on the bike.
We're going to head home.
Beautiful.
I don't even know what to look at.
It's a dot.
Right?
We're home.
I've got three bikes.
Can I pay for, like, two cars after me?
Yeah.
And the three of us?
Yeah.
That bridge.
Twice in two days.
It is amazing.
Every time.
So, Bridge of the Gods.
Hell of an experience.
It's all freeway from here.
So, I think I'm going to end the video here.
But I just want to say thank you guys for watching.
Big shout out to Beards Bikes and Camping, A2B with Roscoe, and McLovin Moto for coming
on this adventure with me.
And for showing us that really cool campsite up in Washington.
My first trip to Washington on a motorcycle.
