Timothée Chalamet and Edward Norton join Katie, Vick and Jamie to answer questions from some of Radio 1's youngest listeners. The stars of A Complete Unknown answers kids questions on speaking French, Fight Club and, well, poo.
Timothy Chalamet and Edward Norton, welcome to the show!
That's like a motorbike revving up. Jamie saw that as a competition as soon as you started that,
Timothy. And I think I won. Yeah, you got less than me. Right, guys, you're about to be asked
some questions by really cute, cheeky kids. And basically, the idea is you can't really lie to
kids. You can't get mad if they ask you something a little bit cheeky, but you could at us. So
that's the idea. How do you feel about that? This is the element of Bob Dylan press I've
been looking the most forward to. That's what he would have wanted.
We'll start with this one sent in by Ava. Hi, I'm Ava and I'm five and I like snakes.
What's your favourite princess? Oh, do you have a favourite Disney princess?
I had a hard time understanding that.
Uh, the Princess Bride.
Wait, sorry, what is the Princess Bride? Are you kidding me? I don't even know what
that one is. Is that a big one? Obviously, this is taking a weird twist.
I did not think Edward would be bringing up Princess Bride A and B. I wouldn't think that
you guys didn't know that. Edward Norton has played some very scary people and I will always
Who's your princess? Princess Leia.
Oh, good. That's a good one.
Neither of you have gone for a Cinderella or a...
It doesn't have to be Disney, does it? No, it doesn't have to be. I like what you
did with that. Darcy sent this in.
Hi, I'm Darcy and I'm five and I like eating chocolate. I want to know who's the smelliest
actor you've worked with? Who's the smelliest actor?
That's an adult doing a kid's voice. That's what I thought. I thought that was
an AI generated child voice. That was an AI generated child voice.
Do you have a smelliest actor you've worked with? I mean, not a lot of life.
Let's just say Timothy went full method on Bob Dylan.
Well, yes, yes, yes. Yes, I did. I actually have an answer for this. I'm
not going to say any names because that would just be mean, but I did work on a western
years ago and somebody was quote unquote in character the whole time and it was something.
It was quite something on set to just, you know, that waft coming in every day.
Just rolling around in horse manure just to really get into the character.
They just weren't washing and the nails and Casey Affleck, he goes there.
How long were you shooting for? How long did they go without sharing?
I was there for two months, but they were really committed and they had, you know,
not too many descriptive details. I'll give it away. But, you know,
gentleman's wife came and she, you know, they were very in love and they were totally,
she didn't care. She didn't care, but sometimes that stench is quite sexy.
Animalistic, you know, yeah. Sometimes you just go for it.
Yeah, I guess so. I'm sure that's what Darcy wanted to hear.
Here's one from Maisie. Hi, I'm Maisie. I'm six years old.
I can say bonjour in French. What can you say?
She's very sweet.
That was very sweet.
You're going to do some French for us, Timothy.
Yes. Je m'appelle Edward.
Moi aussi, je m'appelle Edward.
Oh, that's nice.
That was kind of straight.
Moi aussi, je m'appelle Edward.
On est tous Edward. On est tous Edward.
We're all Edwards. We're all Edwards.
I never did any French in school. I did German. Vic can speak French
and Jamie has this incredible skill where he just sort of pretends he's speaking French.
It's not pretending at all.
No, you're not speaking French.
Are you joking? I'm speaking French.
Go on.
Are you ready for this? We can have a conversation together in French. You ready?
Mm-hmm.
Tu parles français?
Oui.
Ah, je pense.
He can do it with any language.
He said je pense something and then he lost it.
In the recesses of his adult brain.
How do you say I'm Edward in German?
Mein Name ist Edward.
It doesn't sound like German. Say it again.
Mein Name.
That doesn't sound very German at all.
It just sounds like my name.
She's making it up.
I don't ever remember from German.
You can't just speak English and a Schwarzenegger accent and say that you're German.
Edward's so disappointed by how little we know.
Do you speak any other languages or no?
French and Spanish.
How do you say I'm Edward in Spanish?
Je suis Edward.
Oh, me j'aime Edward.
I just hope you're remembering all this just in case.
Right.
Jayden has got a question for you here, Edward.
Hi, I'm Jayden.
I'm nine years old and my favorite football club is Manchester City.
My mom told me to ask, what is the first rule of Fight Club?
Jayden, your mom is a little base and she'll get you rooting for a better club.
I love it.
I absolutely love it.
I love it.
Love it.
Ticket sales just plummeted.
Jayden was never coming to Complete Unknown with his mom.
Don't worry.
Jayden, your mom knows the answer to the question.
And Jayden shouldn't know the answer to the question.
No, I thought he was about to say his favorite film was Fight Club and I was about to send
child services.
Yeah, as you should, as you should.
Right.
Let's see what Lewin wants to know.
Hi, guys.
I'm Lewin and I am eight years old.
I like football and shaking my beauty.
Would you rather have a third eye on your forehead or four ears?
A third eye on your forehead.
Now that's the first really great question.
Yeah, that's a good question.
Three eyes or four ears.
It'd really affect what parts you got, I think, wouldn't it?
You should have to be on my forehead, the eye, I guess so.
And where are the ears?
Right, the ears could go anywhere.
That's true.
You could say we all have a third eye, really, if we're going by ancient Ayurvedic wisdom.
Oh, here we go, Vick.
I actually like this question.
I think I'd go with the third eye.
Third eye.
Why is that?
I bet I'd understand things on another level.
Whoa.
Do you know what, Timothy, you make a good point with where is it,
because if you could put it at the back of your head,
then that would actually be useful, wouldn't it?
But isn't much use just in the middle there?
Because you can see there's not really a blind spot there, necessarily.
Right, I'd be nervous about visiting local opticians
and how weird it would look to have three lenses instead of the typical two.
More expensive, I guess.
You'd need some special glasses made.
I'll go with the four ears.
Go with the four ears.
Where would you put them?
Probably on the inside of my leg.
Yeah, that's a good one.
That's a good place.
I like that.
That's a good place.
I just want to hear what's going on down there.
I like that.
I think that's a good place to have it.
Out of all the places, that's a good one.
What I love most is, Edward, you really thought about the answer.
Out of all the questions that have been thrown at you,
that was the one that really got you.
Yeah, that was a weird one.
That was a good one.
That was a good one, though.
Yeah, that was a good one.
Well, we've got one more question for you,
and this one kind of goes down that same theme of,
you know, would you rather sort of thing, I guess.
We actually asked Paul Meskell this question, and here it is for you.
Hi, my name is Ruben Ansis.
Would you rather eat chocolate-flavoured poo or poo-flavoured chocolate?
I was thinking about that this morning.
It took him a lot of takes to say that,
because of course it's hilarious when you're a child and you have to say poo.
What was it? Chocolate?
Chocolate-flavoured poo or poo-flavoured chocolate.
I mean, without a doubt, it's got to be the chocolate-flavoured poo.
You would eat the poo?
Would you eat the poo?
You'd have to be out of your mind to eat poop-flavoured chocolate.
So you would eat human poo?
Well, how do I know where it's coming from?
Like, what's the source? Is it mine?
It's Edward Norton's.
Well, Edward's a sophisticated guy with a pretty elevated diet.
I mean, Edward's a really classy guy.
That's good.
Mine's basically just veggies.
Veggies, excrement, and, you know, some seeds.
With some creme brulee in there.
Seeds, a little creme brulee.
A very seedy poo.
He's got some chipotle, um, undigested chipotle.
What kind of chocolate would you want it to taste like?
Because this is really controversial, guys.
But whenever I'm in the States, I just think the chocolate's...
I thought you were going to say, whenever I'm eating my own poo.
Whenever I'm eating my own poo, I think this is like American chocolate.
American chocolate's just not that good.
Yeah, you've got some issues.
I'm going to tell you like this right now.
What's your favourite?
Have you got a favourite chocolate?
What would you want it to taste like?
I like Reese's Pieces peanut butter cup.
Okay, yeah.
Yeah, good.
Hershey's.
I can't get on board with Hershey's.
No, but who's convinced you that that's what stands for American chocolate?
Well, it's just everywhere when you go there, isn't it?
It's just everywhere.
Everyone's like...
It's true.
Everywhere in America is a Hershey's sign.
Yeah, Hershey's Kisses, you know, it's just...
Are you staying at Best Westerns and things like that?
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Step it up a little.
What about you?
Chocolate, chocolate flavoured poo or poo flavoured chocolate?
I'll go with whatever Paul Mescal went with.
What did he go with?
The poo flavoured chocolate because he said he just wouldn't eat poo, full stop.
Yeah, for health reasons.
Yeah, he just didn't fancy it.
He thought best not to eat human feces and instead go for chocolate
and just kind of persevere with the flavour, you know?
Hold your nose.
I think that is the right answer.
That's a bit of a dodge, Edward.
Yeah, no, that makes sense.
Timothy Chalamet and Edward Norton, thank you so much for joining us on Going Home today.
Thank you so much.
This was a media appearance to promote the lyrical genius and Nobel Prize winning
poet-loterate that is Bob Dylan.
But we just asked you about poo, about eating poo.
That's what we do here.
