If you were in a life or death situation...
I would eat it.
This is an embarrassing story but I'm going to tell it.
So I put one of those in the microwave.
Put it on now.
Hey Eater, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and we're here in New Jersey at one of our favorite
restaurants, the iconic Belmont Tavern.
Let's do lunch.
Hey there.
You grew up not too far from here in Wyckoff, right?
What's your connection to this place?
This place is extremely special to my father-in-law.
He brought me here for the first time.
It's called the Belmont Tavern.
Iconic.
It is iconic.
And the musical history it has with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, so many different
doo-wop groups.
So the first time I came here, it was like a blast from the past.
But the food is exceptional.
So I brought the guys here for the first time and we actually ended up shooting our cover
of our album right there in that corner.
So the title, Greetings From Your Hometown, is all about getting back in touch with our
roots and it's sort of a love letter to our hometown, our home state.
And as three guys from New Jersey, places like this are a true reminder of home.
Oh man, there's so many things.
The Chicken Savoy is Stretch's famous Chicken Savoy.
It's kind of like world-known at this point.
And then the Lung Hots are my favorite.
I got tricked into eating them by my father-in-law the first time I came here and it like rocked
my world.
You guys can do the shrimp beeps.
I'm going to do it.
I will keep it away from you.
I now shy away from shellfish because I am actually allergic to it.
I'm going to do the spaghetti, oil and garlic.
Oh yeah, it's great.
I'm going to do that too.
Classic.
Everything on this menu is really, really special and it's done really, really well.
Yeah, I mean, come on.
How's mine?
Yeah.
Favorite food, favorite restaurants.
You know, in our household, we eat a lot of Indian food.
Bungalow in New York is top, top, top.
It's incredible.
Chef just, he just has a really inventive take on Indian cuisine.
My wife and our daughter, who loves Indian food, are very tough critics, even though
she's three and a half years old.
She has a very complex palate and she ate everything off her plate.
And I think you guys would agree because you guys actually wrote this on your site.
Schmuck has the best martini in New York City right now.
It's so good.
I love the bar.
It's so fun.
But in LA, where we also call home, there's a place called Osteria La Buca.
It's my favorite Italian restaurant in Los Angeles.
Oh, it's delicious.
Shout out Mama from Osteria La Buca, originally.
Osteria La Buca.
It's quite scandalous.
If you want to go deep on Reddit, there's a lot of lore there.
Best food city.
Let's say you can't say New York.
Oh my gosh.
Can't say New York?
Bartholona.
Yeah, Bartholona.
Or...
Mexico City.
Contramar.
Mexico City f***s.
Yeah.
It is such a great city.
It's so fun.
Sorry, that's our dad.
Hey guys.
This is Dateline.
Sit down.
Just kidding.
Mexico City is incredible.
Contramar is fantastic.
I went back two days in a row and ordered the fish three times.
It was like, it blew my mind.
It was so good.
Would you say, as a state, New Jersey is underrated or properly rated?
Oh, I think that Jersey is often overlooked.
One of the things that I always loved about growing up in Jersey is the diners.
Diner culture, we don't really have that in other states.
I mean, a few, but like in California, for instance, that's not really a thing.
Another Miami wreck, Boa Day.
They have a sister restaurant called Walrus Rodeo,
so if you can't get into Boa Day, you go to Walrus Rodeo and that pizza is bomb.
In Texas, in Fort Worth...
Oh yeah, shout out to our homie, Tim Love.
Tim Love, Lonesome Dove.
It's an experience that you have to have.
Who's the biggest foodie?
Joe.
For sure.
Who's the pickiest eater?
Kevin.
I don't want to disagree, but we...
I just don't eat fruit.
That's the only thing I don't eat.
Everything else I eat...
He doesn't eat a lot of stuff.
What?
Okay.
If our dad was here, he would take the cake.
Give me a vegetable, I'll eat it.
Do you like beets?
I love beets.
I love beets, too.
You don't like beets.
I love beets.
He hates beets.
This guy hates beets.
Biggest sweet tooth?
Me.
Kevin.
Who has the weirdest, most annoying eating habit?
That's a good question.
I have an annoying one, I'll admit it.
But I do carry little packets of A1 sauce in my bag.
Touring, as much as we've toured,
you end up in certain places and you can't find a great meal.
It's either Buffalo Wild Wings,
shout out Buffalo Wild Wings, they've always been there for us,
or like a dry chicken and broccoli from the venue or something.
The A1 sauce just makes it taste a little bit better.
Who's the most likely to travel for food?
It's Joe.
And Joe, because it starts in the morning with coffee, right?
Like, he will not go to whatever coffee shop is downstairs.
What's the farthest you think you've ever traveled
for a good cup of coffee in a city that you were there for touring?
An hour?
Give or take, yeah.
So who is the most adventurous eater?
I think Nick probably now is probably the most adventurous.
Actually, there's nothing that I wouldn't try.
I'm not a huge fan of cottage cheese just as it is,
but paneer is one of my favorite things
and it's literally cottage cheese just, you know, prepared differently.
So that was the only thing up until now,
and now I'm like, I think I'm good with just about everything.
So there's nothing that you've tried and you're just like,
Nah, I'm never going to eat it.
Jelly deal.
Our first trip to the UK, jelly deal is like this canned war dish.
It's a war dish, as it were.
You know those.
Anything with bananas in it, I'm not going to eat it.
But that's really it.
It's the smell, it's the taste, it's also the texture.
If you were in a life or death situation,
I would eat it.
If you had a food truck, what would you serve?
I think it's time for Jonas Bagels to be a thing.
I mean, we've been talking about it.
A bagel truck with our names stamped on it would make sense.
Guys from Jersey.
Bagel sandwiches, pizza bagels.
We can do mini ones, bring those back.
Speaking of food, I'm now hungry.
Let's do it.
Here we go.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Oh wow, look at that.
All the beeps.
That's great.
Oh, this chicken is amazing.
We're going to need more table.
That looks awesome.
I'm going to take a picture.
This is great.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
So this is the house salad here.
Longhots are, are they hot?
Not to me.
I love that.
It's a spicy day for us.
First restaurant meal you remember as a kid.
Wow.
Brownstone.
Yeah, I was going to say the Brownstone as well.
Wycliffe, New Jersey.
I remember I always used to get a Shirley Temple there.
They had this delicious, kind of similar chicken dish with some pasta that was spot on.
It's closed right now.
I just found this out, but it's definitely our first memory.
It's like some pasta.
My favorite thing, the shrimp peaks.
You want some?
First fancy restaurant you splurged on.
We were able to rent out John's Pizza in Times Square.
And at the time, we'd go there and we threw our album release party there.
To be able to afford to rent out a restaurant for the people that worked so hard for us for so many years,
that was a big moment for us.
It's so good, isn't it?
It's like...
Chicken's boy.
Yeah, for the win.
Hats off, chef.
First family vacation.
Probably, we would take some summer vacations to Myrtle Beach.
We'd get in our Ford Windstar and we had this TV that had a built-in VHS player.
And we would watch a C-Spot run.
Big Fat Liar.
Not Liar Liar.
Big Fat Liar.
All blue.
Big Fat Liar with Frankie Munez.
Mm-hmm.
That's Paul Giamatti's best movie.
Yeah.
I mean, it is.
We were obsessed with Super Smash Brothers.
Like all weekend long, all night long, Surge.
That chicken is incredible.
It's so good.
So you guys remember the first time you ever burnt anything in the kitchen?
Oh, yeah.
I don't remember the first time, but...
This is an embarrassing story, but I'm going to tell it.
Chick-fil-A sandwich.
But I didn't know that the inside was the aluminum part because on the outside it's just paper.
So I put one of those in the microwave.
The thing blew up, basically.
What movie is that?
That happens on an airplane?
Just Friends.
Thank you.
Anna Faris takes down the plane.
Great movie.
I have a great idea.
What if on our way to Paris...
First celebrity you met that you felt starstruck?
John Mayer.
That album, Room for Squares, and especially the song 3x5, was a very, very important song for me.
It was the first time I understood metaphor in music and song.
Derek Jeter.
I think I met him at Raos in New York, actually.
A long, long time ago.
Massive baseball fan.
Massive Jeter fan.
Post-show fast food you can all agree on.
We actually wrote a song about it.
Back in the day, we would always not be able to go to bars or go hang out, but we would go to a place called Waffle House.
It was always open late, and there was always a booth there waiting for you with steak and eggs, waffles, obviously.
So it was important to us, and it kind of meant a lot about where we had started and what we saw on the journey on the road.
All right, so your tour just started.
Yes.
What do your tour riders look like?
It's changed over the years.
Now I always have things for my entire family, so any time that they show up and make sure there's food.
I always have hummus now in a vegetable plate, not a fruit plate, a vegetable plate.
Pretty good coffee setup, travel coffee setup.
A healthy-sized bottle of 1942 tequila.
Some Coors Lights.
A balance of healthy and unhealthy snacks.
This is nostalgic for us, but we all have in our separate dressing rooms.
Ants on a log, which is celery stick, usually peanut butter, but almond butter with raisins on top.
We have 20 years doing this.
We feel quite young, and we're so grateful for that.
We're still doing this after all these years, and we wanted to create a body of work that nodded to some of the music that we listened to growing up.
The simplicity of those special moments of just being family.
It's comfort music, and we hope it's comfort music for you guys, similar to the comfort food we're having today.
How was the meal, guys?
Fantastic.
Chicken Savoy, once again, take it with us to go.
Well, thank you guys for sharing your favorite foods.
Thank you so much.
Lunch is on us.
Oh, thanks, guys.
Thank you.
By the way, it's Eater's 20th anniversary as well.
Hey, look at that.
Happy birthday, Eater.
Thank you, guys.
Thanks, everyone.
