Hey guys, this is us again with a completely new setup and it took us only six months to finish it
but we're pretty happy with the result and we're gonna show it to you today. We bought a Tommy
camper. Why a Tommy? Well, we're not really fans of slide-on campers. Created for that
older generation and probably for comfort and it's the comfort bit that attracted us the most.
Maybe it's us getting older. Maybe it's us getting older. After traveling for over two years in a
Patriot camper trailer we made a list of things that we definitely wanted in our new setup.
With our Patriot X1 everything was outside. It's amazing when the weather is great but when you
have a week of rain you're stuck in a rooftop tent for days. So a space inside just to set up right
where the table would be cold. Remember, we work on the road. We do this full-time, not just for a weekend.
Often I'm outside in the evening video editing and I'm getting eaten alive by nature. Just mozzies,
bugs and it's honestly no fun. You just want a space inside. The next one was a big one. Sam, you go.
Your own toilet. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and you have to go for number two.
How good is it that you can just stay inside and use your own toilet? Yeah, especially when you have
to walk outside in the middle of the night. It's rainy. It's muddy. You have to clean your feet
afterwards. It's no fun. We all know that. So having your own toilet in the middle of the night
or whenever is amazing. The next one, we only started appreciating it after using it for about a month
and honestly, it's a game changer. A big freestanding awning. You only use your awning
when it's a good one. If you're living outside, you want the biggest, strongest and fastest awning
that you can buy. We bought the Bush Company's 270 max awning. We now have an extra living area
covered from rain and sun, close to 20 square meters and it takes us less than one minute to
open that awning. So yes, it's worth the investment. Next one, an outside kitchen. We love our L-shaped
kitchen that we have in our Patriots. We love cooking and eating outside and we've noticed with
people who have an inside kitchen that they don't spend much time outside anymore. For us, that's a
big part of camping. Cooking good food outside in nature while having a good wine surrounded
by wildlife. The last one, not towing anymore. I know it's easy having a camper trailer at the
campgrounds and leaving for the day with the car, go on explore and come back to the same spot
all set up. But it also comes with frustrations, it comes with extra costs and don't forget the
challenges and the challenges. We decided not to tow anything anymore for our big lap
but what could possibly have all the stuff that we just mentioned. It took us two years
to come across a dummy camper and while we probably have seen heaps on the road, because
they have been around for the past 10 years, we probably never really noticed anything different.
Just another canopy set up with a rooftop tent. It doesn't actually look like a traditional slide-on
camper, hence the reason why we actually started liking it. After seeing a TikTok from the inside,
we started looking into it and a journey started. Yeah, but we needed a ute for a Tommy and we needed
something strong. We bought a brand new 79 series and we converted it to match the Tommy. I'm not
going into detail about the 79 series but we'll definitely make a separate video in the next few
weeks. Let's start with Tommy campers. Yeah. It's a Ballarat company that has been around for over
10 years. Yeah, 10 years and they specialize in trays and lightweight four-wheel-drive campers.
They have three different camper models, the S4, the S6 and the S8. You can get an X version for
every model, giving you extra space inside. We chose an S6X. It's their most popular model,
but not straight away the reason why we picked this model, because you have to look at your
to see what's possible. We did a chassis extension, otherwise an S4 would have been a better option for
our dual cab 79 series. The S8, for example, would be the perfect option for single cabs because it's
a big unit. You can buy every model as an empty shell and you can do the fit out yourself or you
ask the guys from Tommy to create your own dream camper. And that's exactly what we did. The
possibilities are endless and it's a long list, but we created a dream camper. Yeah. A GVM upgrade
is advisable to handle all that extra weight. We opted for a 4.2 GVM upgrade. It's a very light
aluminum camper weighing just over 300 kgs empty, but with all the extras you'll end up around 650
kgs fully loaded. I'll go into detail about the weight a little bit later, because it's a very
personal matter. Yeah, so let's start with the walk around. Yes. A few years ago, we moved from Belgium
to the other side of the world. My name is Wim and together with my wife Sam, we made it our mission
to discover the most beautiful and remote places that Australia has to offer. Zero experience, but
full of ambition. Welcome to Bushin Bay. Let's start with the tray. We custom built the tray
so it matches the Tommy perfectly. It's a 2100 mm x 1900 mm. We got rid of the headboard
from our tray just to get as much weight in front of our rear axle. We also asked to bolt the Tommy
to our tray, mostly for the looks, but also because we'll be on the road full-time for the
next few years and we usually travel fast. A standard Tommy comes with 75 liters of water, but
we opted for an extra tank just that we have 150 liters of water in total. We have two tabs,
one on this side and one in the back, and the back one is actually pressurized. So we have two
separate water tanks, 75 liters each, 150 liters in total, all sitting in front of that rear axle.
Power. We chose for Enerdrive lithium with a 2000 watt dual inverter connected to 400 watts of solar
on the roof. More than enough for the two of us. We just finished a one-month trial and not once
did we charge our Tommy. And we use a lot of power. We have laptops to charge, we have about five
cameras, we have an oven, we have a water heater, so believe me, we charge a lot. We've got a USB and
USB-C together with a cigarette socket to charge whatever you want. You can even connect an
additional solar blanket to charge, just in case the rooftop panels are covered with shade.
Usually Tommy installs a larger fridge, but we requested this one, a custom drawer with extra
storage and with a cutting board. So now we have a smaller fridge, but we have extra space and we
have our L-shaped kitchen again. Sam's request. So all of this is customizable. So we have shelves,
we chose for three, with storage boxes from Tommy campers. We even have an oven, so they spoil us
with an oven and honestly it's amazing. Sam made fresh baguettes the other day and it actually
works. It actually works. So we have our kitchen tap and sink here. You can easily do dishes,
it's pressurized. Put it away, use it whenever you want to use it. The beauty of this, I know our
awning is open now, but we're always covered from rain and from the sun. It even has LED strips.
DC charging is just here, just in case you want to stay longer and you want to charge.
But look at the details, laser-cut logo, no stickers, UV protected, powder coated,
aluminium details. It's just another level. You can see these guys have been perfecting
this camper for the last 10 years. Next one is the biggest one and it is the reason why we actually
bought a Tommy camper. There's a door and you can actually walk inside and there's plenty of space.
You'll see that there's enough space inside to sit with two, eat or work on a little table and
on top of that there's a room for a portable toilet under the seat. So finally a toilet inside.
You can easily slide it out and slide it back in. It's high. I'm six foot three and I can easily
stand up straight. I can walk, can turn around, enough space. There's also a queen-size mattress
with power plugs, storage bags and these Sirocco fans are a must if you ask us. The rooftop tent
has 360 degree views using a high quality mesh and you can close all sides in case it rains.
So we have two power plugs here connected to the inverter and we have two smaller plugs over there.
Tommy built this table for us. It's perfect for working, perfect for eating, playing games.
Someone can sit next to me, someone can sit in front of me. It's big. I'll show you where we
keep all our clothes and it's big and it's more than enough for the two of us and believe me,
Sam has a lot of clothes. We have extra storage boxes here. Here you can also access that from
the side and then you can lift this bench. Again, storage. Our port-o-potty right here
and you can access it here and you can just slide it out. I'll show you here and then
do a number two or number one
and slide it back in and honestly we don't smell it. It's been perfect and that's exactly
what we were looking for. Game changer. Mug mats. We have one, two, three. It's still not enough
but it almost keeps your camper sand free. Thank you A247 gear. We added a link in description
and we even have a discount code so go and check it out. Okay, let's go to the right side. It's
pretty much all storage. Portable toilets. Baby Weber. Can't go camping without a baby Weber.
Impossible. We keep our camping chairs here together with our table. Then we bought these
storage boxes from Bunnings. They fit perfectly. We keep all our wet stuff and dirty stuff like
floor mats, bags, whatever gets dirty and wet. We keep them in boxes just so you can close them.
The last amazing feature on this side is our water heater. It's an electric water heater
and it actually keeps 10 liters of water constantly at a set temperature. So whenever
you want to take a shower it's so easy because you don't waste water straight away. You just
shower and it just uses the warm water. We have our magical shower tent for that. We use a shower
tent from The Bush Company and like with everything that these guys do and touch it's the best.
It's the same as with the awning. It's the same quality. It's perfect. There's not much more to say
about the outside but we added for example the Maxrex on the side. Just makes it look a little
better in my opinion. Then we have the Roofrex on top with the Tommy logos and we painted them in
sandy taupe as well. We have the rock sliders from Steady on all sides. Same in the Roofrex.
We actually mounted some LED lights which makes it pretty cool at night. One flick of a switch and
honestly it's all lit up. We get a lot of questions about the weight but it's different for everyone.
Empty it's around 300 kgs depending if you have two water tanks, depending on fridge, shelves,
drawers. There's so many options. Our weight is just under 700 kgs fully loaded but we chose it
to be this way. That's the beauty of a Tommy camper and straight away the reason we were sold.
So we'll do a review video in about six months. We'll go through it all again and we'll probably
change a little bit and we'll go through the good, the bad, everything just to give you guys our
honest opinion. So this was our setup. Thanks for watching. Give us a like, maybe a follow so you can
follow our journey on YouTube and see us explore the most beautiful parts of Australia. Thanks guys!
